I think a vanilla game of XCOM 2 before War of the Chosen might be a good idea, just because of how much War of the Chosen adds

That said, I will never go back to vanilla XCOM 2 now that I have WotC, and a game of XCOM 2 can be very long, so diving straight in might also be a good idea

I'm not having great luck with otherwise good PC games that have flawed graphics settings

I just finished up Fallen Order which has a known bug where activating HDR actually washes the colours out

And now I've started Observation which has a known bug where if I open the menu at any point it will stop using my native resolution and force me to use no higher than 1280x800. Very frustrating.

    text:
There’s a flag that says “Trump 2024: The Revenge Tour” flying on the main building, which almost makes me get back on the bus. It’s a pretty hostile message to send to everyone who uses this facility, military and civilian alike. Between that and being told that no one here will be wearing masks, I have my guard up immediately.

Once inside, we’re introduced to the Incredible Adventures instructors who will be leading us through the day’s activities. The four combat veterans are led by a guy named Tosh, who wears a brace with a hook on the end of it wrapped around his left wrist. The event organizer addresses the group by welcoming us to a day of sniper training, but Tosh corrects him. “Let’s call it a sniper adventure.” We break up into groups and spend most of the day learning how to breach a building, systematically move down a street while in hostile territory, and handle a weapon. We’re each given an M4 rifle converted to fire simunition, which has a similar impact to airsoft, and we practice firing them and running various military drills.

As we run drills, no one refers to the people we’re learning to kill as Muslim, Middle Eastern, or Arab. Any time the instructors refer to them, they say enemies, bad guys, or the other guys. Of course, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that “the bad guys” are most certainly Arabs here. At the end of the day, we run a combat scenario where we trade fire with role-players dressed in white robes and keffiyehs. The actors are all white, I think, and I can’t decide what’s worse: white people dressing up like Arabs to be shot at, or subjecting actual Arab people to this experience.

oh, thank goodness, they've clarified that the game is not political

This makes me think of that one Spongbob meme format:

So in this you play United States Military personell?
    Yep
And you in the Middle East?
    Yep
And your targets, enemies, people you shoot at, are all of Middle Eastern decent?
    Yep
And the look like and dress like people in the Middle East?
    Yep
So your playing the US Military doing actions against Middle Eastern peoples?
    OUR GAME IS NOT POLITICAL!

XCOM 2: Should I buy War of the Chosen? Should I play a vanilla XCOM 2 game before getting into War of the Chosen?

yes, war of the chosen is a great addon

it can be pretty overwhelming though, and it essentially modifies the vanilla xcom campaign to add a whole bunch of new stuff to it

so if you haven't done *any* xcom before, maybe just play a little bit of vanilla to get a feel for it, and then try it again with War of the Chosen

I have played one whole game of XCOM 1

When the Grim Fandango remaster came out on PS4 I burned through it and posted on twitter that I got the platinum trophy like the day of release and Tim Schafer congratulated me.

    It was pretty cool.

You should get it, but you should also play a vanilla game first. XCOM 1 is valuable experience, but 2 deviates from it enough that you have to learn the pacing of the campaign.

Oh actually scratch what I said earlier

You should play the weird road to XCOM 2 pre-created campaign thing

I don't remember if you need War of the Chosen in order to play that in the first place or not, but I feel like that would give you enough of the new style of XCOM 2 units and stuff to make the transition work

That DLC isn't free anymore. Also I think that would be a weird experience for someone not familiar with XCOM 2.

Trying out Iron Harvest on gamepass and they have an option for everyone to speak in their native language with subtitles. Wouldn't mind seeing that option more often.

Shopping cart's not working for me. Guess I'll check back later.

I just loaded up on the GOG sale, anyway. So it'll take a while to figure out what I already have.

Edit: It's back. Time for an hour of comparing lists.

I never could finish Witcher 2. (I barely made it past the prologue in fact.) Should I try to finish it before I get 3? I don't know if that's ever going to happen, come to think of it.

Uh, how much do you feel like playing a game with kinda crappy combat/leveling/inventory systems but a pretty decent story?

I would say the opposite. That games have good combat etc but crappy story. Have things changed?

Man god bless gamepass. I prefer playing on consoles and my pc is pretty much just for total war, but I kept seeing Prodeus and loving how it looked, but not enough to risk a purchase of a game preview game on a platform I don’t play often

Fucker comes out on gamepass PC and I love it
