I ran Slay the Spire 3 times yesterday as Defect. Each time the Act 3 Boss killed me. Each time it was the Timekeeper.

Which fucking sucked as that middle run I was having so much fun with:
    3x Claw
    2x FTL
    Beam Cell
    1x All For One
    Seek+
    Hologram+

Play all the 0-cost attacks. Play All-for-One. Play all the zero-cost attacks. Play Hologram. Play All-for-One. Play all the zero-cost attacks.

    I fucking hate Timekeeper.

    where's the beef block?

I had a few Defends hanging around, as well as a Glacier and a Charge Battery, and a Fossilised Helix to help set up the chain. But that deck was designed to ramp into killing things very quickly.

I also had Panache and Letter Opener, so massive chains would do an additional 20+ points of power/relic damage.

Kunai, Abacus or Paper Fan seemed like the missing pieces then. Maybe Shuriken or Jax too. Spam Defect just generally doesn't scale super great unless it's doing some very deviant things somewhere, Claw is pretty slow scaling unless it's a very thin deck.

I've never had a problem with it, personally. Claw decks are probably my most consistently successful Defect.

my perspective is skewed from playing to kill ascension 20 heart usually, so take everything with that in mind. I love AFO spam but you have to have some mitigation options as well. a few powers + force field and/or steam barriers can do a lot of work there.

Fair enough, I think I only have Defect up to A10 or A11

I'll also generally have some elemental powers running - ice is generally the strongest complement, if you get the right cards

Yesterday was my first attempt at a Claw deck, although I've seen the possibility several times.
I've usually tended towards either Lightning or Meteor Strike decks as defect.

Strangely I never seem to get enough claws to make it worthwhile? For a common card it doesn't show up much for me.

You don't need (or want) more than 2 Claws. What you want are Hologram+ and All For Ones. Doubling down on some more 0 cost cards like Go For The Eyes, Beam Cell and Recursion+ (preferably on frost). But, as mentioned above, Timekeeper still totally wrecks this shit. One of the best things you can get is Madness, especially if you can force Madness to hit a Hologram so All For One rebuys the Hologram.

    I once got 2x Madness and 2x All-for-one.

That shit was straight up broken. That's my only defeat of the Timekeeper/Heart with the Defect, and that was an Energy Deck built around Meteor Strike and Unceasing Top.

I didn't think ascension 10 would be so hard, just adding a single curse. But man does it throw off my act 1 draw.

F1 Jaw worm is the fucking worst, especially when he just decides to either attack... or buffs a couple of turns in a row.

    Also: Time Eater/Awoken One!

Trick with both of these is they're not actually anti-spam cards/anti-powers. What they're actually testing is the *quality* of those cards. IT's entirely possible (arguably even easy) to roll Time Eater by playing 12 cards per turn. Likewise i've repetadly crushed Awoken Ones who've had 30+ str. Pretty sure i've dunked on ones with 50+ strength at points too.

You just cant do it by playing any old card or any old power, which is where people tend to go wrong.

Like even with AfO, Claw is a very weak card. It looks attractive because it has theoretically infinite scaling, but it's a very, very slow form of scaling and if you're going for dwardle mode scaling, just use Frost Orbs and Blizzard.

Claw with Kunai and maybe Shuriken, the Fan relic? That's getting a lot better. Still not great, because Claw is still weak and Defect has better options with Powers in general, but way better than just "claws and AfO".

anyway, i have played this game for over 3k hours ask me for strategy tips, i can even be convinced to stream it and talk about my horrilbe mistakes in real time

Seeing as this is a Let's Slay together, I'm probably going to start a run in a bit. Help me pick my slayee slayer and a bit of strategy and let's see how I do.

First up, who will I use:
The Silent: my strongest character, with the most wins.
The Watcher: my weakest. I have never won with Watcher.
The Defect: the one I've been playing most this week, as I've had a bit of a dry spell since the last win.
The Ironclad: other than a daily challenge last week I haven't played much in a while.

Smith, upgrade your Indignation. Not really sure what the rest of your deck is doing, you dont have nearly enough offensive oompf in there. But you have an attack pot and and strength pot, so ideally you should be able to get into wrath and then smash the slime apart before it can attack you.

I'm trying to remember what the other options were. They weren't great, I think one was empty cage? I had an artifact potion I was just going to sit on till I hit the heart, and a vuln pot I used to break giant head.
