In the year of 202X
creating element themed super robots was all the rage. All the best robots were created by the prolific Dr. Light to make life easier for mankind.

What’s all this now?

This is a robot building game for many people.

Phalla is the Penny-Arcade Forum Version of the Party Game Mafia. General rules of Phalla can be found here. New players are welcome as are old of course.

Specific rules can be found below:

Standard Phalla Rules/Mechanics:

You must vote each day. Vote in bold red for whomever you think is likely to be a threat to you. The winner of the vote will be eliminated every night. Tie votes will kill both people involved and the person causing the tie. Be careful.

In addition, everyone should make at least two posts each day. Failure to vote or contribute will lead to warning and replacement.

Do not directly quote anything from PMs with me, or take screenshots of them. It is okay to paraphrase role PMs however.

Do not add other players to PM conversations.

Do not anonymously contact anyone.

When you die you may make one ghost post which cannot contain any game information whatsoever.

Ask for clarifications in Bold DarkOrange. You can always PM me with clarification requests, or post them directly in the thread. If you have questions about your role you should probably use the PM method to avoid giving away info to the other players. They are *already* suspicious of you.

Make sure you invite me to any PMs or proboards, or discord servers you might form.

Order of actions: Vote>Quick>???>Guard>Normal/Area>!!!>Charge

The Day will Close at 3PM Eastern Time. Votes and orders cast at 2:59PM Eastern and earlier will count, those at 3:00PM Eastern and after will not count. Game Days will not occur on the weekend. You may feel free to post and vote, but Vote Close and Narration will only happen Monday-Friday.

Signup in bold limegreen

Specific Rules/Mechanics:

Robot Building:

After signups close the Robot Creator form will be linked in the Day Zero post. Players will use this to construct their robot, choosing a name, element, and power.

Elements:

bfgxvrnj56ac.png

The Five Elements of the Megaman Universe are of course: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Guts. As the image shows, Metal is strong against wood but weak against water. Wood is strong against water. Water is strong against fire. Fire is strong against Guts, and Guts is strong against Metal. Attacks will be boosted when hitting a weak element, and reduced when hitting a strong element.

Powers:
Normal Attack Don't be fooled by the name, this attack packs quite a punch. This will deal 5 damage by default.

Quick Attack This attack sacrifices power for speed, hitting very early for 3 damage by default.

Area Attack This attack will let you spread the love, hitting 4 targets for 1 damage each.

Charge Attack This attack will do massive damage to one target as long as you take no damage while charging it.

Dam Reduce Shield Reduce all damage taken by your target by 50%

Ultimate Shield This shield will block the strongest attack your target takes completely.

Spiked Shield This shield will reflect all damage taken by your target to its sources. The sources will take an additional 1 damage for their efforts. This damage will be elementless.

Repair You may create a small energy pellet to heal your target for 2 HP.

Clarifications:
Alegis wrote: »
Do multiple DamGuards on a target (from different people) block an attack each?

Yes!

MrBlarney wrote: »
ObiFett wrote: »
I'm assuming Dam Return Shield doesn't prevent the target from taking damage?

The use of "reflect" in the ability makes it seem like it would, but I'm guessing no

Shield mechanics / stacking breakdown:
Damage Reduction: Multiple applications stack multiplicatively. For example, two damage reduction shields will block 75% of damage from all attacks. Fractional damage is rounded up.
Damage Guard (Nullification): Multiple applications block multiple attacks, one per application.
Damage Return (Revenge): Target of attacks still sustain damage after other shields apply their effects. Only sustained damage is reflected. Multiple applications only stack their +1 additions and do not multiply the base damage.

Auralynx wrote: »
I know we're not there yet, but should we submit multiple Mans we might be so you can shuffle elements?

No, one robot per player and we will hope for the best.

I'm pretty sure Metal did indeed beat just about everything in MM2.

Except the Guts-dozer, as I recall?

Also, Invictus, I wouldn't try to apply it after MM2. Things began getting weird there and by 4 you're looking at, like, Pharoah beats Rings and, inexplicably, Skull beats Dust.

Objection: metal is strong against everything. Including most of all itself.

Truth! When this is done I'll share some of my original, horribly balanced entertaining designs.

I think it clinks off of all of the Dr. Wily Bosses actually. Except for the flying wall machines. Maybe it does weak damage against the Wily machine too?

Those bosses are mostly pretty weak. You can defeat Toadman without him even firing off a shot. No time stop even. Although the Dr. Wily fight completely mystified me in that game.

I mean, I know Abrahamic religion isn't a big thing in Japan, but surely Toad ought to beat Pharoah.

Overall MM4 was probably the easiest in the original series, if not by a huge amount.

Ooh, I had the the Wizards and Warriors one and the Castlevania one. The Castlevania one was incredibly cheesy, even as a kid. I remember the Wizards and Warriors one being kind of decent. How is that one?

Either way that they got published gives me hope for my writing lol.

Doctor Light comes across as more or less insane, but otherwise it's all right for the reading level.

I had the Blaster Master one too, and that one was straight-up written while on drugs, as far as I could tell even at like 11.

If you are ever curious to try them, I would recommend
    • Mega Man 2 if you want to play vintage 2D platformer fun
    • Mega Man 9 or 10 if you want vintage play & aesthetics, but with some more modern design sensibility (like an indie 'throwback' title ala Shovel Knight)
    • Mega Man 11 if you want a modern version of the classic series

Outside the main ("Classic") series, there's the following spin-off series
    • Mega Man X if you want a faster moving game with bigger levels, with secrets to search for, and some changes based on the order you complete them in, also a darker story than classic (where classic is basically Astro Boy meets Kikaider, X is more like Blade Runner but anime robots instead of genetically-designed people grown in artificial wombs)
    • Mega Man Legends if you want to play Capcom's take on a 3D Zelda, with cartoony robots and a sense of humor. They're super fun but a lot of MM fans bounced off them pretty hard because it's such a change in gameplay, so you'll get wildly divergent word of mouth. Also make sure it's the Playstation versions, IIRC the N64 port was pretty rough.
    • Mega Man Zero if you want to play 2D Metroid, but with a darker & super-anime take on a Mega Man narrative (like X but more-so).
    • Mega Man ZX if you want MMZ, but a lighter tone.
    • Mega Man Battle Network if you want the Mega Man version of Pokemon (although Digimon would be the more accurate analogy since the mons exist in a virtual world)
    • Mega Man Starforce, but I don't know anything about this one

Edit: Because JaysonFour reminded me that Mega Man EXE is the character's name, and only the series name in Japan (Rockman EXE), in English its Battle Network.
