Accounts can be compromised. I've seen a popular account get taken over and the hijacker used the popularity of the account to post scam bullshit.

As an 18th century leather worker I am trying so hard not to be a dick about this but it's really bad, starting with the fact that leather drinking vessels really aren't a thing past the beginning of the 17th century.

I for one would like to hear the take! Just from an interest in crafts. I don't think you'd be doing it to dump on Sorce, who brought us a neat video! Unless Sorce made it I guess. Even then we can maybe be civil in our disagreements on leather working on the internet.

The main thing, other than the authenticity of the object itself in the period being described, is that it makes the most common beginner's mistake - or I should say, two related mistakes - of making the holes ahead of time, as well as punching holes rather than merely piercing them with an awl. He even mentions in the video at one point that there's one section you don't want to make the holes ahead of time because it won't line up properly, which is one of the two main reasons you don't want to make the holes ahead of time. The other is a result of piercing rather than punching; when you pierce with an awl, rather than cutting away an entire section like a punch does, you're just creating an opening by pushing the fibers aside. The hole will then close back up around your thread, creating a very strong, secure stitch, rather than the lacing method he demonstrates. And because the holes close up like that, which again is a good thing, it's another reason not to make the holes ahead of time.

A lot of online guides to leather work, both historic and modern, use this "punch holes and then lace through them" method as it's extremely simple to explain, but it's not actually good and certainly not authentic. And it's not even that hard to properly teach/learn how to use an awl - when I teach workshops, I have people stitching properly in a few minutes!

I had no idea about punching vs piercing and that makes total sense. Very neat.

I recently watched that "Feud: Bette Davis vs. Joan Crawford" miniseries, so in my mind Jack Warner is canonically portrayed by Stanley Tucci.

I work in a public library with a copy machine in it. I deeply empathize with the civil engineers who tried to put up enough signs and signals to communicate that there was a truck-killing bridge up ahead, there is no level of signage that will ever be enough. You could make them pull over and sign a physical affidavit legally affirming they'd read all the signs and measured their trucks by hand and motherfuckers would still drive their trucks into that bridge.
