same way this shit always happens. they just hire their (white male)buddies from other parts of the industry so it's all one big incestuous club house with the same problems spread across it because it's the same people every time
This article is pretty insightful imo how the shitty mindsets of the tech industry get fostered and are probably not going away soon, I assume there's overlap with the video game industry
The core talent from Typhoon Studios, the developer behind Journey to the Savage Planet, have reunited to open a new studio called Raccoon Logic with backing from Tencent.
The new opening will be based in Montreal, Canada, and has managed to acquire the rights to Journey to the Savage Planet from Google, which bought the franchise alongside Typhoon Studios back in 2019 to help bring first-party content to Stadia.
The founding members of Typhoon include creative director Alex Hutchinson, who previously held the same role at Typhoon and prior to that directed Far Cry 4 and Assassin's Creed 3 at Ubisoft, and studio head and executive producer Reid Schneider, who also served as studio head at Typhoon and helped establish WB Games Montreal.
Yeah, checks out
Had to look up who that is. It really does track - and the tweets I read bring back some really icky memories of some douchebag animator/dev guy who got all uppity on behalf of Ubi when they claimed it was near impossible to implement women in...AC Unity? I think? As playable characters, because the entire skeleton had to be replaced (which is bs of course). His incredible argument was that unless I was broing out with Andy Serkis, I didn't know shit about animation and should shut up, lol. I tried to track down the messages, because for a splitsecond I had the feeling that it was Hutchinson himself, but probably not.
Anyway, fuck that guy
Aww man that's the Journey to the Savage Planet team? I liked that game.

I'm having another go with Pillars of Eternity. Never made it very far the first time. Playing on easy and just going for enjoying the story and trying not to think about builds and gear and leveling too much.
Playing a dwarf just because they have the best beard options.
Oh yeah, vidya gaems. I completed the main story of Horizon Zero Dawn, and am currently playing the DLC. I really like that game - I think it's the first robot-apocalypse since Terminator that I cared for? I really enjoyed the audio logs and textfiles, and how and what you learn about the world. It's also a rare case of protagonist-being-uniquely-important (aka CHOSEN ONE) that works for me.
Some stuff is a little heavy-handed, and I think most of the sidequests are boring, but I really enjoy this game. And the DLC immediately fixes one of my complaints: when people emote during dialogue, their models are just standing there and barely emote with their dated facial animations. Frozen Wilds sells those scenes more, but veers a bit too far in the other direction, the amount of turning away, walking and gesturing people do during a chat is very stageplay-like.
And I watched the Forbidden West trailer (it looks so good!) and am bummed that I won't be able to play it until...2024? Oh well.

It's not the worst thing in those messages by far, but the thing that sticks in my brain the most is when 20% of the message is "how dare you imply racism because we're white" with the remaining 80% being absolutely vile, blatant anti-Semitism.
The Superman and Barman skins in Fortnite really irrationally bother me. They would never pick up guns and shoot people! I know its basically just action figure playtime, but still, something about seeing Superman wipe out a squad with a shotgun or w/e just really pisses me off.
I think that's a different studio, which now has members in this typhoon studio. but it could very well be that they are one in the same because.. tree house
I thought Darkest Dungeon would be too annoying for me to actually play, and it was. Thanks for the free game Epic
It has a lot of really cool systems mired by a grind. I hear the radiant mode (whatever they named the quote unquote easy mode) fixed a lot of the problems and makes the game more fun.
Though it sounds like they learned a tonnnnn of lessons that will go into DD2
the one thing I don't like about darkest dungeon is you run around with 100 light at all times because there is no reason to do otherwise except self imposed challenges
original Diablo 2 was literally all peer-to-peer under the hood, they didn't have hosted servers for anything but the battle.net chat rooms, character storage and game finder
it also had a non-battle.net online multiplayer mode option that didn't even try to prevent hacking
Not only was it something you did in original Diablo 2, they were giving interviews earlier this year about how they were absolutely keeping that because it was core to the original Diablo 2 experienec.
I don't remember it being a thing. single player, open b.net, and closed b.net.
open b.net was where they didn't care if you hacked, closed b.net was they would try to catch you hacking with some automatic checks but it was hard to stay ahead of the hackers, in both cases you hosted the game on your own machine or the machine of whoever's game you joined
In an interview with Eurogamer earlier this year, Diablo franchise head Rod Fergusson emphasized the feature would be included in the final game.
"You can still connect locally through TCP IP if you want to!" Fergusson said. "That was there in D2. It'll be there in D2R. We've really focused on making sure that if there's something about the core experience you loved, we're bringing that over. But we do get a lot of benefits from being on a more secure platform."
The stated reason for removing it is security, which sounds like a pretext

diablo 2 remastered has announced they will not be supporting a peer-to-peer server mode
did the original D2 support private servers? I don't remember playing it on anything but b.net
As late as 2011/2012 I played on a friend's private server for a game on Hardcore mode where he tinkered with the drop rates to make them reasonable for 3 mooks clearing shit.

I bought loop hero over the weekend and finally played it yesterday, I like it so far but some of the upgrade costs seem to imply playing like a lot a lot and I'm not sure I liked it that much unless item drops become more frequent

It's been a long time since I played
But isn't this incredibly difficult to do in terms of resource usage and carrying capacity?
axiom verge 2 seems to have a lot more data in it, 1 was only a 500 MB install, 2 seems to be 9 gigabytes
wonder if there is voice acting or something
It lists 9 GB as the required storage in the system requirements, which led to me being a little surprised when it downloaded near instantly. The actual install appears to be 165 MB.

They both become more frequent and you'll probably find ways to get the specific drops you need to happen
Part of the game is definitely building for what you need on the resource level

being at 100 light or being at 0 light? to be at 100 light you just need torches. if you are at 0 light you don't need torches.. but you find more stuff than you can possibly carry back, so the extra drops don't matter.

Apparently they had non-white people at the old studio where they made that game. Strange that none of them carried over to the new studio.

They want to see what it feels like to be Going Undered, I guess.
Darkest Dungeon it is! Does it pass? Hmm. Ok maybe that was a fluke. What's next? Fortnite! Oh eaaaasy pass.
