I ordered a frisbee from Sweden. That'll probably be shipped via air though right?

When do you think I'll get my frisbee?

If it happens again just grease her up, you can’t expect the ship to get through dry.

Yeah, supply lines are still completely fucked. As funny as it is, let's not and say we did.

Reasons Why I Want the Boat to Get Stuck Again

    1. I could not conceive of stronger evidence that capitalism, as a system of logistics and infrastructure, is perilously bad. From now until my dying day, every time someone tries to defend capitalism I could just throw up my hands and yell , "the boat got stuck! Twice!" I would love to see how buffoons try to defend that.

    2. It would be incredibly funny.

It getting stuck again would very much be a Bad Thing(TM).

The yucks aren't worth the squeeze on this one, gang.

Pipe posted about what kind of shipping ripples there are already out in the world right now and if you've ever worked in manufacturing, import/export or anything like that then odds are good that even aside from the Good Ship WTF being back in the canal things right now are scaring the pants off you. I won't defend rampant capitalism cause that shit is janky and busted, but it's hard to knock down a system when the foundation for the next isn't even poured yet.

Even after a boat that is classified as too big to go through the canal got stuck they sent it back through for logistical reasons.

Capitalisms thirst for profits led multiple international businesses to send a boat that has already shown to be too large to go through this canal is now going back through the same canal.

It's the exact situation of not learning your lesson, but in this case you're doing it in the neverending search for PROFIT!

Yeah dude. Every decision which led to the boat getting stuck in the first place were motivated by short-sighted, corner-cutting capitalist profit motive. Furthermore, the fact that a single major disruption could seriously negatively impact the entire planet goes to show that capitalism isn't very good at properly planning for disaster is because it's not profitable to do so.

The boat is the size it is because that's the largest possible size it can be to fit through the canal, which is absolutely a profit driven decision above anything else

I mean I literally work in the importing industry and our shipments are currently delayed by like 4 months already but yeah, I'm real sorry about the paper towels you ordered.

Did y'all know that there's a worldwide shipping container and fucking shipping pallet shortage right now? Containers are coming out of China, but there's nothing to put in them for the return journey and it's too expensive to send empty containers so they're just hanging out.

What I'm saying is if you're planning on buying people gifts for the holidays this year do it now.

Legit question: What did we used to put in the containers before? My whole life, I've heard about these mythical trade imbalances, but it just seems weird that empty containers are piling up somewhere.. and it makes me wonder how this was solved in the past. Was it a case where empty containers were shipped back, and now they aren't because it isn't worth the cost?

So unless I missed a step it has been basically impounded in a lake in the center of the canal this whole time so that Egypt (?) could extort / fine the owners. So it's not "going through" again, it's just finally actually leaving.

I thought it did that a month or two ago? I remember hearing it was moving / released.

According to this Reuters article it left the canal and arrived in Rotterdam in late July. It then went to Felixstowe, England, earlier this month. It's now making the trip back through the canal on its way to Singapore.

    Fingers crossed!

Some of my coastal friends went to wave at it as it passed their town

And, knowing them, make crude gestures

    Alright, yea, that's fair.

It's mostly that I don't want that fucker to be there when I next circumnavigate.
I'm at least a year from living on it full time and it's unknown if I'll ever go all the way 'round, but I like to think of it like driving on a road full of idiots. It would be better if they didn't fuck it up for everyone.

Raw materials and food mostly, but there was unusual excess of containers left over from the run on masks and other medical supplies earlier in the pandemic.
