Hey guys let's send death robots to take care of the evil parasites that can control anything

i don't really know anything about the metroid lore, can the parasite things take control over robots? how does that work?

the idea of an evil Samus hasn’t run its course; it hasn’t even been done right yet

We need a Samus with a jagged mustache and a love of evil schemes. We need a Wamus.

That's thinking too small. Obviously we need Dark Samus/SA-X, Wario, Dark Pitt, Dark Link and Star Wolf to team up and have their own game.

    Yes, but only certain robots.

The X take over a security robot, but AIdam says that they did so by "assimilating the organic components that form its neural network".

So I guess that security robot was more of a security cyborg or something.

Book of Mudora podcast put forth a theory that I think is extremely likely.
Keeping in mind the scenes with a Chozo alive and well; the flashes to the murdered Chozo scientists and the SA-X might be implying the twist is that the Chozo scientist is actually an x parasite mimicking a Chozo.

I don't know if it's on sale everywhere, but Boomerang Fu is on sale for $3AUD on the eShop at the moment and is one of the most popular party games with our group. Fast paced, up to 6 players locally on one Switch, starts out pretty basic and can get crazy if people get the right combos of powerups.

My understanding, from what others have posted, is that this is a mistranslation thing where the original Japanese is talking about multiple different factions within the Galactic Federation and the one Samus butts up against in Other M/Fusion is one specific rogue faction?

It’s amazing that some of the best parts of Metroid lore come from mistaken translations

Yeah, but it was often an intentional part of localization.

Samus being a 6’3” 200 lb juggernaut was also a mistaken translation.

Aussie rules player and pro boxer Tayla Harris is Samus Arran in my head now, tall, tough, strong and agile.

I don't feel Samus needs to be body builder hench, given that she uses a hyper advanced metal suit of armour, but that's also how I feel about a lot of super hero designs, so to each their own.

For me at least there is an element of martial artist monk to her via the Chozo training I imagined in my head when I was a child.

But I also thought she was forty when I played Metroid 1, like some kind of military veteran turn bounty hunter, but she seems to get younger as I get older.

If I was an essay writing man I’d do a big write up called “Samus Aran does not exist.”

There were multiple Chozo outposts. The Tallon IV Chozo ascended/turned into corrupted ghosts. Seems the SR-388 Chozo got wiped out by a rogue warrior-path.

the implication i always got from the chozo is they were super smart and strong, but they did some terrible stuff that could have devestated the galaxy multiple times. (accidentally releasing the X parasites, making and then losing control of Metroids, etc.)

So eventually they decided that they themselves were too much of a risk to continue running around the galaxy, and so voluntarily decided to gradually end their own species. Taking in and raising Samus was an attempt by them to do some lasting good that would learn from their mistakes and take the positive traits of their culture into the future once they were gone.

I thought that the Chozo only discovered the X, them being an apex predator on SR-388 already. Then they engineered the Metroids to take out the X.

  • GundiGundi Serious Bismuth Registered User regular
yeah they discovered them deep in SR-388, but also accidentally gave them the means to spread across the planet and potentially get off the planet and had to make metroids as an emergency measure to stop them.

but then metroids also became a problem

No, Mother Brain wasn't a part of the whole SR-388 fiasco.

Looking at the Chozo Memories from Samus Returns (spoilers for Samus Returns. Also, it's a link to IGN), it follows a path of:
    Chozo find this neat planet!
Ooh, there's this interesting energy source in the planet
Chozo build big structures and research the local fauna
Oh crap, there's horror parasites on this planet!
Chozo bioengineer the Metroids to eat the parasites.
    Metroids eat the parasites!
Things are pretty good on SR-388!
Oh shit, the Metroids are metamorphosing and populating out of control.
Seal the Metroids under purple acidlava!
Oh, there's more Chozo coming. Well, he should be happy to know we contained the situation.
    Oh shit-

So, the SR-388 Chozo pretty much lost control of the Metroids through the standard Jurassic Park sort of thing. Bioengineered species growing out of control and turning on ya.

like the whole reason they turned to spirituality and away from super advanced technology is that like, chozo solutions are incredibly dangerous.

It takes a person with the strength of character of Samus to use them responsibly.

"Responsibly" may or may not still include destruction of several planets and at least one alternate dimension. Which, considering she's a single individual, makes you wonder about the Chozo...

Chozo are definitely that brand of mad science where if the laws of physics won’t allow it, why, they’ll just run the polarity through this parallel dimension full of relatively harmless entities using the power of an unstable star close to super nova. Don’t worry! They’ll stabilise the star by siphoning the energy from another, even less stable star.

So the Chozo are the Salarians, unleashing the plague that is the Krogans (metroids) on the universe in order to solve a more existential threat in the rachnai (X parasites)?
