Not to be "that guy" but also to totally be that guy, isn't this their MO? I remember Dan's play thru of one of paper Marios and him not doing the basics. That's not to say it's not bothersome, just that it's expected.

It's not even basics for the new combat system. It's basics for RPGs in general lol. It's frustrating but the game has a ton of leniency built in so I'm sure they'll survive.

I am happy that Arin hasn't decided to shit on it anymore and seems to be enjoying it.

It IS making me want to replay it for the hundredth time though lol

I just watched their entire Mario 64 playthrough (again) and it's one of my favorites. They get in this zone where they're telling really fun stories and joking around with each other while playing and it's kind of zen. Of course the times where Arin loses his shit is the cherry on top.

Or they could fail on camera and get paid for it.

It's different when it's an RPG. When they fuck up in Mario 64 it's funny because it's instant.

But they haven't even equipped Mallow with his weapon yet. Or completely ignored the weapons shop in town lol. Meaning the fights are going to be longer which causes them to avoid fights which causes them to fall behind which causes them to halt progress and poor Dan then has to spend a few hours off camera killing shit.

But it's not like I'm sending them hate mail or anything. I'm allowed to vent on their idiocy.

I suppose it's interesting that boss fights are way more challenging than they would be. The way they have to keep dipping into the Forbidden Items instead of just stockpiling them like every RPG player obsessively does.

You know what? Nanowrimo's cancelled on account of the world is stupid.
  • urahonkyurahonky Registered User regular
Honestly the fact that if they game over they keep the exp and if they stockpile Pick Me Ups they'll be fine. Maybe the power rangers will be hard but I'm hoping by that time they've learned to equip weapons and armor.

I think if 11 year old me can beat it then Dan can.

yeah i imagine whenever they get to a new record session these will be ironed out if they don't realize themselves, usually that's when feedback gets to them.

"Grip 'em up, grip 'em, grip 'em good, said the Gryphon... to the pig."

I think they had a moment of realization in regards to that during the Bowyer fight, when Mallow punched the boss and did literally 1 damage to it. Arin even commented on possibly not having equipped a weapon on him. The next episode will probably be the test to see if they remember that.

Well they did it. They got me to fire the game up again.

Thought about doing the whole "use a star and then die" trick but opted against it for now.

latest ep, Dan figures out the equip screen and flower items, so i think they are on track also Arin has a walkthrough. they laugh about how bad the comments are gonna be, because yeah.

"Grip 'em up, grip 'em, grip 'em good, said the Gryphon... to the pig."

Yeah I haven't seen it yet but I saw the discussion. I was scared they'd sell the tabs and boxes lol. Money is pretty easy to come by.

Can't wait for them to get to Booster's Tower.

I hope Dan doesn't do half of it offscreen.

    Fun fact:

Bayou Billy is so stupidly hard that it’s actually canonically the one game that Captain fucking N: Gamemaster could not beat.

Let that sink in. A preternaturally skilled at video games wunderkind could not beat Bayou Billy.

Ok, but when Captain N played Mega Man 1, it took him 50 tries to reach Cut Man Cutsman. Not to beat him, just to reach him.

I’m not so sure he’s that amazing at games.

Going through some older videos and one thing I'm especially glad they fixed was removing the sounds of them pressing buttons on the controller. Their setup is so good now you can only hear them.

  • urahonkyurahonky Registered User regular
Watching them get their shit kicked in was a bit satisfying. As a kid I could never do that fuckin minigame.

This is why people enjoy watching them play shitty games or boardgames/game show games.

Because fucking it up is part of the fun.

    This is just painful.

Best part of the fuckin episode was the crown and Dan getting stuck in Snifits. Big ol dumb grin on my face. I will watch GG be bad at games forever.

God, the AI in those monopoly games are such bullshit

Arin, being a dingus, didn't actually alter the offer that the AI had given him.

    And it rejected it.

    It rejected its own deal.

    Because it's fuckin dumb.

So glad they got a Patreon so I can finally support them. I don't want to give YouTube any money and their merch is kind of bad.

Is this really the first time they ever had a Patreon? That's honestly pretty amazing.

Yeah I think I remember Arin talking about it a couple of years ago and he said it felt gross for the channel of his size. But if patreon helps prevent algorithm chasing then I might be all for it.

As someone who has played more blackjack in Vegas than I care to admit, I couldn't get through watching Arin play it without making a post about it. You just know you're in for a treat from the very first decision that he makes.

Of course, it's totally common for people to not know how to play. That's the prime reason it's so insanely profitable for casinos. One of the reasons I enjoy playing it is because it's fun to help out the other people at the table.

Did they say why they decided to introduce it now, though? My initial fear is that they're not doing as well financially. The inability to do liveshows probably don't help.

I'm urahonky where I try to support my favorite youtubers outside of youtube itself. In the Grumps case, it mostly comes from buying Starbomb/NSP music, plus a live show I went to in the Before Times. Patreon could work, but I try to focus on less well-known youtubers, like Snapcube. I also sometimes due Superchats when people stream, like the Grumps used to back when they played games like Chrono Trigger and Undertale.

...you know, there's no reason for them not to do those anymore, now that they're vaccinated and podding.

Saw a bio that it was COVID after refusing vaccination, though not sure how reliable that is.
