Yeah I surfed all of Amazon. At the prices you might pay for Amazon z scale 3D printers you might honestly think about picking up your own 3D printer. Spent a good bit of time also looking into competitive railroad design in Z scale which also confirmed that basic idea: Z scale is largely about building your own custom stuff.
but yea, i got a 3d printer for battletech scenery. Steel Warrior Studios has been the best source of files for what i like. And its worked out very well.

I recently discovered I'm only 30 minutes south of Walthers' main hub and showroom.
Were it not for These Trying Times, I'd probably been up there twice already.
@Betsuni If my evening plans fall through, I'll take some more side-by-side pictures tonight.

Y'know I was like, "Man, I need an FDM printer to make some buildings, thread has me lusting!"
Then I remembered I already own one the only reason I stopped using it was that filament became impossible to find for awhile.
However, that is no longer the case.
I may have two spools on the way now.

I keep seeing Hydro and the like making cool buildings and stuff on their FDM printers, wondering if I made a poor choice going SLA resin.
Then I look at all of my darling little 3D printed robbits, and my pile of general-purpose terrain-making materials, and stop worrying about it.
The problem is, as it always has been, is finding the time to create the new terrain!
But then also:
I'm doing alright.

Working on my Touman I felt like writing the character that would have joined the Oosiks. And doing that I also found myself needing to reintroduce the destroyed company. So I give you a brief reference to the Oosiks reforming around the time of the Jihad. Criticism, suggestions, or just crunchy lore fixes welcome.
Star Colonel DW was a trueborn but aging mechwarrior of Clan Wolf (in Exile). He volunteered for service along the Ghost Bear Dominion corridor in part out of hope to encounter former star-mates who had been captured by Ghost Bear as isorla and win their freedom, and in part out of fascination for the blend of Clan and IS culture evolving there and served reasonably well.
Originally a member of Beta Galaxy, he was a member of the wave 3 invasion force and performed with minor distinction though fell out of combat after repeatedly overheating his mech and damaging the core. He joined the Wardens who followed Phelan Kell into exile during the Refusal War.
Later, as an aging warrior, past his prime and denied an honorable death in combat, he mellowed and found comfort spending time visiting the Rasalhague Dominion, drinking and reminiscing war stories with other veterans of the invasion. He eventually ended up regularly carousing with a group of mercenaries similarly known for their boasting and drinking proclivities. This group claimed lineage from a long lost mercenary company, and whether it was true or just a group claiming the old glory of a name, they had established the name as theirs.
With Wolf-in-exile heavily reduced and dependent on the Lyran Alliance following the Jihad, and his place in the new forces entirely in question as he was aged to garrison duty, DW deserted and joined his mercenary drinking buddies, a group who called themselves the Oosiks, and served in the reformed Oosiks Irregulars mercenary company until his death.
Your post brought a question to mind. With the Oosik Irregulars "destroyed", and the existence of the Iron Oosiks (or are they rumored?), does that mean we're the Iron Oosiks further down the timeline? Or are they both in existence at one point?

after trying to print tanks and such on the FDM, it was pretty disappointing, but its a terrain and building work horse. The resin printer is next. I need a fleet of savanah masters.

I liked the idea of the company name being one adopted by all sorts of barely connected folks.
When were the Iron Oosiks founded again?
If the Oosiks are anyone who drinks and charges for merc work calling themselves the Oosiks, then they can never die.

Turns out "oosik" is just Rasalhague Swedenese slang for "Drunken Merc".
A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
Is there a recommended painting tutorial video series that shows all this stuff?
I keep hearing amazing things about citadel paints. I might just just have to get a few pots of the colours I want for Oosik shenanigans.
I do like the citadel paints, but cost and the pots kind of suck. I do use the washes. They also have an app for colors and such, which is super awesome.
Vallejo is good for the most part. Light colors can be iffy in my experience.
I've been using the army painter primer and matching paint droppers lately. Stuff is pretty nice to work with.
But I use P3 the most for the sole fact it's all liquid. Quick shake to remix and good to go. No worrying about pigment settling and struggling to mix it. I paint so infrequently it's extremely convenient. Paints and flows well to boot.
The thing to understand about the Vallejo Game Color range is that it was specifically made for fantasy models, and most fantasy modelers use layered paints, so they are purposefully more transparent. If you want more opaque paints, look at the Vallejo Model Color line, which is made for military modelers (and has basically the same colors). Military modelers tend not to go for a highly layered look, so these paints are focused on better coverage.
Also don't forget about Reaper paints. Their quality is very good.
Also, going back to visit dates and stuff reminded me how short the Invasion really was.
The real world war from U.S. invasion to withdrawl from Afghanistan was longer than took place in-universe between the Clan invasion and the Refusal War.
Just going through all the packs and there are some amazing sculpts: King Crab, Crab, Highlander, Nightstar, Horned Owl and so on. Each unit has a really solid standout if not a couple.
The Centurion, is missing the Flying Debris shoulder and shield (and at least on mine the head is tilted oddly). So far the only "miss", though it captures the original line art pretty well.
I'm psyched to get some primer on them, to really see the details.
Reinforcements have been delivered.
I forgot I clicked on the "Comstar" options for the shirt/dice other merch. Wonder what past me was thinking.
I'm guessing it was "Well, some people like the clans, some people like the inner sphere, but everyone hates ComStar. Clearly the best option.".

I'm sure ComStar throttling your bandwidth had nothing to do with it.

What's the link to the available trades page?

Ice Ferret Prime
Mist Lynx Prime
Dire Wolf Prime
Executioner A
Timber Wolf A
Apparently one can never have enough Timber Wolfs (Wolves?), I've got 4 in this box, and another one that came with the Intro box I've got in my closet.

Sorry, I was just reading the information off the top card that came with the mech without taking them out of the sleeves. On the Timber Wolf and Executioner it had the -A side readable. The others were all Prime side out.
Same sculpt as normal though.
My bad.

Phew!
I was afraid I missed a crucial piece of information!
I also got the Comstar patch and pin. My battletech history is Jags, Falcons, Comstar, RAF, so I guess I have a thing for dead(ish) factions.
2 of those are in bad shape but still exist, 1 got resurrected, and the 4th could reappear easily (and indeed, did so once before the RAF put them down) >.>
Comparing 40k lore to Battletech I do see the value of having a more infinite space where you can pick and choose which lore events matter/apply/are true to your game.
That brings my full Salvage Box haul (some of which are going to HydroSqueegee ) to:
- 1x Dire Wolf
- 2x Timber Wolf
- 1x Storm Crow
- 1x Nova
- 1x Shadow Cat
- 2x Ice Ferret
- 1x Viper
- 1x Adder
- 2x Mist Lynx
e: Just realized that's 9/15 of the Salvage Box mechs on 12 pulls, and the second Mist Lynx is the only arguably "bad" pull, which feels pretty good! Hopefully others have similar luck.
I kinda wish I'd pulled a Mad Dog or a Summoner, but hopefully I can get that through trades.

Exactly, real dicks.
I love that this makes so much sense.
The real world war from U.S. invasion to withdrawl from Afghanistan was longer than took place in-universe between the Clan invasion and the Refusal War.
4x Clan Invasion
Elemental x2
Myst Lynx
Adder
Grendel
Nova
Timber Wolf
Gladiator
Executioner
Dire Wolf
Inner Sphere Resistance
Locust
Wasp
Stinger
Commando
Valkyrie
Urbanmech
Pheonix Hawk
Griffin (got cards x2)
Shadow Hawk
Wolverine
Catapult
Rifleman
Thunderbolt
Archer
Warhammer
Marauder x2 (1x legendary)
Awesome
Battlemaster (no cards?)
Shiloh (aircraft)
I'm going to paint these up in the colors of our MWO unit which is black and red.
Fun bit of trivia.
That one box of Clanner stuff is only roughly 6k BV less than all of your IS stuff.
It is something like 15k-ish for Clans and 20k-is for IS.
Fucking Clanners.
edit- A Clan MechWarrior is worth ten of the Inner Sphere, but the Inner Sphere always has an eleventh.
