I just finished the final case of GAA2. I loved both games but the second game is more satisfying as it resolves the mysteries rather than leaving everything hanging. I'm glad we got the games in this form. It would have been very frustrating playing the first game and having to wait for the sequel.
In hindsight I feel dumb for not realizing, as soon as he was in a European style suit, that Dr. Mikotaba is literally designed to be a Japanese Watson.
Taking both Great Ace Attorney games together I really do think they're the best the series has ever been. Which as a real long time fan is meant as high praise.
...Even if I had basically figured out the larger plot of the duology by the end of the first game. I've maybe played too many of these games that I know exactly all the writers' tics.

I knew who Ziek's apprentice was going to be almost immediately, but I was pretty caught off-guard by how quickly they turned around and just said it out loud. I do like that Susato wasn't about to beat around the Bush when it came to that shit.

Yes and I'm glad they didn't drag it out. This was the only thing that got spoiled for me beforehand. I follow a lot of Ace Attorney artists and I tried to quickly scroll past any DGS art, but I saw the masked character with Kazuma's haircut so when I met him in the game I knew who it was. Then I saw art of him unmasked before I finished the case. So I was really disappointed to have this big thing spoiled, but I'm glad they made the actual reveal pretty quickly.
Completed GAA 2-5, that was very satisfying and I think by virtue of being the only plot line in AA that has ever been carried over two whole games really felt like one of the most complete as a story.
There's a lot of things to like about how they structured the plot to make it so that every single case you did was ultimately related to the main plot. Some of the cases along the way were much weaker than others, but at least every one gave you some sort of plot-related tidbits or relevance.
Really enjoyed that they built up the villains from the very beginning. All the characters who were important in the last case were important pretty much all the way from the very start.
Wasn't a huge fan of the fact that Sholmes' big plan was just "appeal to the monarch" but I guess it makes sense given the political situation they set up.
Kazuma's death and resurrection and Sholmes' reasons for hiding that he was alive all felt pretty awkwardly handled, but they did at least manage to make me believe he wasn't coming back until we got introduced to the apprentice.
Loved the bit at the end where you played as Mikotoba and you finally got to see Sholmes operating in his element, like the past two games he kept screwing up because he was missing this one vital piece this whole time.

Back in like case 2-3 I accidentally opened this spoiler and read to literally everything but the last word before realizing that this was actually a huge spoiler and clicking out really quickly. The entire time I thought that the last word was going to be "Moriarty" since he's a professor and all, and I was waiting for him to heel turn by the end. I was delighted when it was flipped completely the other way around.

I just started day 2 of investigation and everything just clicked into how the case works and I am probably gonna spend an hour waiting for the game to catch up

I actually firmly believe that Sholmes wasn't just out of his element all those other times, or missing anything. He was purely screwing around, and/or playing it that way specifically to get Ryunosuke to deduct what happened. In the last case, he's not only together with Mikotoba but also mentions that there's no time, so he doesn't play around and is 100% dead on with everything that he says. An absolute legend, and that last dance of deduction was my favorite moment in the games.
Of course, it begs the question of why he was screwing around that one time when there was an active time bomb at the scene. We see him inspecting it right away as soon as they entered the room though, so maybe he determined that they had plenty of time?
Finally finished both GAA games so now I can come into this thread and read it. (everyone's always good about spoiler tagging things but it's a pain trying to only open spoilers for cases I've done). Initial thoughts:
Just like everyone else, I was pretty happy they cleaned up the loose ends; one thing that confused me partway through was the discovery of the dog collar. I thought it was a belt, not a collar, because we didn't really have any sense of scale in the image, and I also didn't realise that the logo was B for baskerville, I thought it was B for Barok so was expecting it to be connected to van Zieks. I guess it was, just not as directly as I expected.
The actual mechanics of solving the cases are as arbitrary as always, the whole "I am a witness who is just going to up and totally lie about things" happens the same way as always and the number of times a critical fact just sort of shows up out of thin air is no less than normal, but honestly I don't play these games for a realistic court drama, I play them for the characters/story.
On that note -- the voice acting was distractingly bad, yeesh, to the point where I turned it off during the end sequence so I could pay attention to the dialog rather than the accents.
And is it just me, or were Ryonosuke and Susato significantly more flirty than the attorney/assistant pairing usually is? In particular the sequence where she returns to London from Japan was where my interest in the game switched from 'who is the big bad going to turn out to be' to 'come on you two just smooch already'.
I think this is the longest (in terms of 'you must play for this long to finish it') game I've played for a long time now, final count comes up as almost 70 hours; I made a few mistakes along the way so it could have gone a little bit quicker but I also hit 'speed through dialog' a bunch so that feels fairly reasonable.

I enjoyed playing Edgeworth Investigations 1 the first time because it was fun to play as Edgeworth and see the little cameos that were in the game, but yeah it's not a great game. The second one really is much better and I recommend the fan translation.

The triumphant moment where Phoenix truly flies solo for the first time is tarred a bit in my head because if you examine dates of events in Apollo Justice it's highly likely the case that got him disbarred for seven years was literally the very next case he took after T&T
