Shang Chi really does spend a lot of his own movie being overshadowed by the other players. Sort of puzzled about what they're going to do with Awkwafina as his sidekick.
Also: Wong, professsional show stealer. At this point, i'm largely looking forward to new spider man and dr. strange for more Wong.

In a world where Marvel still made those shorts for the dvd/blurays there are at least 2 that are "Wong goes to buy a sandwich" and "Wong tries to take the afternoon off" and I miss them every time

It's such a weird situation -- Simu Liu is good in the role, it's just that all the rest of the actors are great.
Yeah I'd say he's fine, it maybe isn't an acting thing - the other roles just get a lot more visibility? He's sort of the straight man to everyone else? Thinking back to the first Thor, you have all those other characters but they didn't really overshadow Hemsworth's Thor, maybe because the character is ... a real character, but Shang Chi on the other hand is pretty understated.
I saw Shang-Chi in the theater and liked it. My wife doesn’t love going to movies as much as I do, but we’ll likely watch it again as a family tomorrow night when it’s available on D+

Do a story where a rookie black cop who is disenfranchised because of what is happening with policing in the US finds a Black Panther suit (bonus if it's one of the kids from the first BP) and decides to become a vigilante. Basically take the Caspar Cole BP series and use it to relaunch BP in the MCU.
Disillusioned cop taking the law into his own hands is like... the dead last place the character should go. No way should the character be giving voice to the myth that US police forces harbor a redeeming handful of individuals if the bureaucracy would just stop hampering them, or that the problem with police is that they aren't allowed to go far enough.
Not to mention that T'Challa is outright African and this would be replacing him with yet another American character, on top of ignoring several of T'Challa's friends and supporters as better fits for the role.

I mean, what you're describing is not what I have in mind. In fact you could make the police force the actual villain organization in a film like that. I'm not a writer though, just spit-balling ideas.
The Cole storyline of BP written by Christopher Priest was largely responsible for taking BP from what had become a c-tier hero into a position to become what it is today. It's a decently interesting arc that could be made into a good movie plot given the proper writing treatment.
There’s also an issue where the BP suit isn’t what makes T’Challa strong or fast. It has the kinetic power, but just wearing the suit doesn’t make you Black Panther.

I think Shang-Chi was fine, at least I enjoyed it. But it felt a lot more like a classic Disney movie than a Marvel movie, if that makes sense.

It was a Kung Fu movie in the marvel universe. In a way that's a return to form. Like a lot of phase 1/2 movies were basically some other genre with superheroes added in and I think it generally worked. We got a glut of Marvel/Marvel movies with the whole Infinity War build up but taking some time and letting heroes have their movies be more about their style of thing is a good sign.
At this point, there's no more drugs to make new Black Panthers after he torched their drug la....flower garden.
That one is pretty easily retconned by having a wise former garden attendant who saved some seeds or for them to find a meadow or something up in the mountains where the herb grows

I like that its different, but its not a Kung Fu movie, it just has a kung fu coat of paint on it.

So TIL that Mark Ruffalo was a 9/11 truther and anti-GMO.
He's very pro-vax, so it could be much worse, but it's still disappointing how bad the Marvel science gurus are at science.
How much work is “was” doing there?
Like technically I used to call myself a Truther as I felt the US gov had covered up many embarrassing details to help focus on their anti-Muslim messaging.
Same with GMO, the gamut of belief ranges from we need more control and regulations to some sort of GOOP level pay extra for harmony crystal grown crops.
Hopefully they can get Snipes in for a cameo or something.
I'd like to see him in a crowd, silently mouthing 'what the fuck?' in response to whatever weird shit they're witnessing. I don't know why, but that's the single 'line of dialog' I remember most from the movie, even if it doesn't technically qualify.
Nobody remembers the singer. The song remains.

I kinda wonder if those Blade movies are on Disney+. I've actually never seen them and I sorta would like to. (edit: though I looked it up and it seems they were made by Warner Bros. so I doubt Disney has access like they do with the old X-men movies)

They are on HBO Max, I was just watching the second one the other day.
In the future I don’t know if they would put them on D+. Typically all the R rated stuff has been living on Hulu.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the rating. Disney needs to get off their asses and add R-rated stuff. I mean, this is what parental restrictions are for...
I hear in some other countries they do have all that stuff as part of Disney+
I'm quite happy with Snipes remaining Blade out in the multiverse instead of making a forced cameo in what will be a PG-13 meta-universe tale from the build so far instead of the great R-rated stand-alone adventures of the Snipesverse.
Speaking of Shang-chi, reddit discovered an easter egg. I really assumed it must've been photoshopped but nope, it's genuine.

Taking drugs is what makes you Black Panther.
Take more drugs, kids.
This is accounted for in Priest's run too.

Yeah there are just so many stupid people out there that none of this crap surprises me anymore.

Because he's crossing over with PG-13 related material.
