This was a great final boss but fighting him is actually overshadowed by his transition from phase 2 to phase 3.

When I shot his wing off I was like hell yeah, sit down, bro. But then when he tears his other one off I lost it, very metal moment very well executed 10/10 flex from raven beak
That was one of the hardest things I've ever seen a game villain do. That's the guy that hits himself in the face right before a fight and just smiles in the biggest "Do not fuck with this guy, he does not give a shit" way.

were those real wings or like, fake organic wings in his power suit? We've not seen much about chozo anatomy before I suppose so maybe they do have wings they just keep inside their torsos under their robes normally lol.
but it's not a motif we've seen in any of their statues or art or architecture either.

    The art unlocked for 100%
shows some other Chozo only wearing loin cloths and they don't have wings.

I think in the Metroid magna the Chozo are described as having "lost their wings long ago." My guess is that Raven Beak reacquired them through genetic manipulation because he's a weird space fascist.

I am 100% certain they are actually part his body, but I dunno if all Chozo have wings or just him, or maybe just the particular tribe of Chozo he comes from. *shrug*

None of the other Chozo in any Metroid media have wings. Considering the shit Raven Beak gets up to with the cloning and what not, I figure they're at least semi-organic. Maybe grafted on or something?

I can't believe that i got 'would you kindly'd by a Metroid game.

I mean, it worked quite well, but I felt pretty stupid after the reveal.

I'm quite enjoying it though I constantly feel like something is missing and like I'm made of paper

I think it's tuned sort of fragile because of the element system giving you regeneration

But there's always the consumable heals you can hoard if you want, like castlevania

My one frustration with Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth (besides feeling a bit short) is that the elemental spells are fairly well-hidden or far from the "critical path" when you first get the ability to acquire them. Consequently, it wasn't until late in the game that I actually found them, which meant I was generally not hitting enemies with their elemental weaknesses for most of the game. On the one hand, that's very "metroidvania"; on the other hand, highly useful tools being contingent on having gone back three zones and punched a specific wall is kind of dispiriting.

My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

Just beat Metroid Dread. Any game that can make me laugh from joy while playing is an automatic 9/10 in my books. The cinematic stuff during boss fights rule and they are like my favorite things in the game.

Literally the only thing I didn't care for were the e.m.m.i, I almost wish they just ran into you and did a shitload of damage. Getting grabbed and trying to get lucky with parries got really annoying.

But yeah game rules and I wish THIS mercury steam got to make a Castlevania game.

    Oh holy shit.

I just found out about the ntended sequence breaks.
If you get bombs and morph ball before kraid, you can OHKO him once he goes into his second phase.

And the stupid shine spark puzzle that I actually did on my Hard run for whatever reason was right next to a skip to the gravity suit. If I had bothered to check the wall.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

From what I've heard, it doesn't actually save time to get early bombs for Kraid because of the backtracking?

The early gravity suit however, is extremely useful, since it leads into early screw attack and it's basically just a blitz to the finish from there while you laugh at basically nothing being able to touch you.

Yeah the Kraid quick kill isn't fast but it's a fun bonus from the devs. All the other breaks so far reward you with faster time, this one doesn't give you time but they throw you a bone anyway.

Early gravity suit is another very useful break for anyone fiddling with them.

been playing fist: forged in shadow torch

i'm nowhere near beating it yet but i'm loving it. it reminds me a lot of shadow complex (gameplay and 2.5d presentation, not story), but with melee combat instead. no dark souls bullshit, just a very good metroidvania. i'm playing it on normal instead of easy and it's a good difficulty for me (so probably very easy for others)

again, haven't beaten it, but so far i highly recommend it

edit: yeah i'd say it's a mix of shadow complex and guacamelee to me. absolutely loving it

    Metroid Dread major endgame spoilers:
I had a very strong suspicion to point of being convinced that ADAM was really Raven Beak before the end. I can't remember when but it was definitely a number of network/terminal updates before the end and I was like "of course" - he's trying to make you come into your power because he needs to use you for some shit.

I'm not sure his plan made any fucking sense though considering be basically asks you to do this thing, and then you don't do this thing, and he can't really force you anyway. He can either kill you or (to his surprise) let you kill him. Am I the only one that had this take? His plan was stupendously dumb.

Also, I'm curious, how many of you played through handheld, how many docked on a big TV, and how many kind of switched around? I started playing docked but I felt like it wasn't as responsive and actually didn't look as good so I played through 95% of the game in handheld mode.

yeah playing on a full size one handheld also gave me some hand pain, was much more comfy on TV with a pro controller. That's kind of generally true about using the switch handheld for long periods for me though.

He basically wanted you to develop as much as possible, but expected that he'd still be able to kill you at the end of it all, and was brought down by underestimating just how bonkers skilled and powerful you were since you would become at the last minute. In theory, the only reason you win is because you cracked his face plate in the opening and gave him a weak point that your draining powers could exploit.

He's an arrogant asshole, basically, yes. He sees Samus (or clones of her) as more desirable than just normal metroids for galactic conquest (I mean, he's not wrong, but...). And then he's totally surprised that Samus kicks his ass once he loses the element of surprise. Really Samus should have just put him down with even more missiles than go for the drain, because she's beating his ass in the whole fight.

Deedlit gets extremely hard, I gave up at the

at the end of the game. I'm too weak, too soft.

Valdis just annoys me because the prizes you get for beating bosses get extremely powerful if you perfect the boss, which is ok except that means if you perfect a few early bosses it becomes much much easier to perfect the later bosses, and failing the early bosses just means the rest of the game is much harder. It just frustrated me really. Similar problem in Momodora, but to a lesser extreme.

I'm surprised at Iconoclasts however - what is the boss you are stuck at? It felt fairly even difficulty all the way through (excepting the secret boss).

In this moment, I am euphoric. Not because of any phony god’s blessing. But because, I am enlightened by my intelligence.

I loved everything about Deedlit except that and the macro map design. It's easy to find secret rooms in the game because the entire map is so tight - all the rooms fit together perfectly. It also makes backtracking weirdly frustrating, as you have fewer long corridors. The micro map design is *chefs kiss* however.

Fair play for iconoclasts - I felt the story and art were the best things about it.

In this moment, I am euphoric. Not because of any phony god’s blessing. But because, I am enlightened by my intelligence.

How new? Reverie under the moonlight is beautiful and amazing and just the right length. I dropped Minoria after the first boss. I think the art style does not work anywhere near as well in 3d, and some of the mechanics just felt... wrong, like the infinite rolling.

I'm excited for the final game - looks like they got the art style right again and the movement seems less floaty.

Deedlit bosses get pretty hard! Which one are you stuck on?

The only thing I really didn't like about Valdis is its "win more" design that gives you permanent stat increases based on your performance, where killing the boss with a better performance rank gives you more stat increases. It's an interesting idea for a reward on paper but the devs didn't seem to consider that the people that are already capable of perfecting the bosses wouldn't even need the couple extra stats at that point.
