My money is on a situation similar to Fred on Angel. Natasha is dead, but her likeness will haunt the MCU as the form chosen by Lady Death.

I don’t think we get Lady Death without also adding Vampirella

Wakanda Forever filming is on hiatus so Letitia Wright can recover from her injuries. I believe this is the first time they've publicly stated what those injuries are - a fractured shoulder and "severe" concussion.

Assuming that's true (and they're not just providing cover for her anti vaxx nonsense holding things up) why the fuck was she in a position to get so badly injured?

    Oh brilliant

Sounds like a wire work stunt or maybe vehicle stunt that went wrong, or could be something as simple as her falling off a set

Also the fact that she can't re-enter the country because she's refusing to be vaccinated.

Yeah, that's the eyebrow raising part. Last we heard, she was all good after a mild sprain and the hold up was that she couldn't re-enter the USA. But now Marvel is acting like she was seriously injured and needs time to recover. Either situation is bad news bears IMO.

Either way that's your confirmation she's the new Black Panther, otherwise, she wouldn't be so integral to continuing filming.

Saw Shang-Chi tonight. It was good! Corridor Crew did a CG/VFX breakdown with the visual effects ... I think it was supervisor. It was good!

For those who have seen both this and Eternals, which did you think was better and/or which did you like more? I'm mostly curious, assuming folks actually did like both.

Shang-Chi is a better Marvel movie, and a better action movie. The fight choreography is delightful through most of the movie.

Eternals is doing something different--relationships and feelings matter in a way that is generally not dwelled on in Marvel movies. Where Black Widow undercuts those moments with sarcastic repartee, Eternals doubles down on it. It's more of a drama/action movie than a straight action movie.

I guess if I'm forced to put them on the same scale I'll say Shang-Chi was better, but that's akin to comparing...I don't know, Ex Machina and Terminator. Although less extreme than that of course. :)

Shang-Chi was great in its own right, but I'm a sucker for the Marvel Cosmic scene, and Eternals was filthy with it. Though both films add a grand dimension to the MCU that hasn't really been touched on all that much yet, Shang-Chi with the magical/spiritual side of things and Eternals with the cosmic. Dr. Strange and Thor gave us a little taste, but it can get so much weirder. Can't wait for them to adapt things like the Cosmic Abstracts (more than just the fresco in the Power Stone temple in GotG).

I'm wondering if they're ever going to look at the logical consequences of Sling Rings, and the entire galaxy knowing that they exist. Probably not, given that they'd change the world beyond anything we'd recognise.

Short of the now-destroyed infinity stones and maybe Pym Particles plus Quantum Positioning System, they're probably the most powerful thing in the MCU.
Instant travel to anywhere, not just for the user but for any army they want to bring with them.
And they can cut things in two pretty easily (begging the question why Strange didn't do that to Thanos' arm on Titan, but only one good outcome, I'll let it go).

A master of Portal Kombat could plausibly beat anyone else we've seen in the MCU.

And apparently anyone can use them with the right training, without needing a magic gene or whatever.

It's the kind of thing I'd expect Ross to be willing to invade multiple countries to get his hands on, just for the military implications, but the applicability to use them to seriously cut back on carbon production; airports don't use planes anymore, just the hourly portal from Paris to New York, etc, and I think a portal letting something fall through the same space forever would be easy to turn into limitless power generation.

Is there a source on if they have the means to manufacture more of them, or are they a permanently limited number?

It's an interesting thought experiment with a very boring and obvious answer, which Phyphor has given.

A world of superheroes is one that is unrecognizable within 10 years, and that is very clearly not a universe DC or Marvel is interested in telling or exploring.

Yes but I'm not Tony Stark.

Joking on this aside, Stark got repeated displays of why he couldn't just dump the tech on the world. A second-rate knockoff version is still terribly dangerous in the wrong hands for one person, and AI using his tech nearly destroys the planet. And Wakanda has had centuries of experience watching why their tech should not be released to the world at large.

The arc reactor and Wakanda tech are like three levels above fusion power and MCU Earth is just not ready to have that much power without ripping itself to pieces.

Comics (Marvel and DC at least) aren't super interested in heroes or villains solving 'mundane', world threatening problems that we currently face. There's a great page in the Death of Captain Marvel GN where all the big brain marvel science types quietly consider why they never tackled cancer before Mar Vell was afflicted.

Listen the nanotechnology on display in Tony's final Iron Man suit could cure cancer and literally all disease. Just let hunter killer nanobots loose in your blood killing every cancer cell or whatever. Nevermind the magical infinite energy from nothing that is the arc reactor.

But the setting isn't interested in a hero who could invent a panacea or power the globe, it's about a hero punching villains and OK fair enough.

If we're taking this argument seriously, this is some silly luddite thinking, every innovation by mankind makes us better at destroying ourselves and if nuclear, biological or chemical weapons didn't do the trick there's no reason to believe nanotechnological will either. Not only would Stark singlehandedly save countless lives and increase the standard of living of the entire globe, the deus-ex-machina nature of vibranium as depicted in Wakanda takes things straight into space fantasy, let alone if the actual Wizards open up a few colleges.

But again, we don't need to twist ourselves into knots justifying this stuff. The Ancient One didn't bother justifying why she doesn't share that magic is real with the entire world, she didn't want to because that's the settings conceit and we just have to accept it.

I know this is deeply unsatisfying from a logical perspective, we all want things to make sense for in-universe reasons but there just aren't any that make sense. At this point the MCU Earth should basically be Shadowrun but the stories are told in a world the same as ours except these few individuals are special and so it's going to stay.

Except that in the real world, turning things like nuclear materials and biotech knowledge into weapons is hard. Really hard. You basically can't make a simple atom bomb without a big industrial base and a team of specialized scientists. Fission-fusion warheads are even harder. Even a really really basic dirty bomb requires collecting a bunch of heavily radioactive materials from somewhere, which is no small operation. Biotech is also pretty hard to actually weaponize in any reliable way and also requires an immense amount of resources and technical knowledge to get anywhere.

In the MCU, the thresholds are immensely lower, there's not comparison. Stark built his first mini arc reactor out of missile leftovers and junk, invented nanotech between films, and time travel on a weekend. The son of his father's rival duplicates his arc reactor tech with stolen original arc reactor plans. Klau turned a Wakandan mining drill into a massive cannon. Banner accidentally turned himself into a walking WMD. Wakanda has justifiably spent centuries hiding its tech, knowing that it would effectively destroy the world. Stark's arc reactor tech and nanomachines would be the same thing. And the same thing again with Pym's shrinking tech and Banner's creation of the Hulk.

And all of these characters do justify withholding their knowledge. Stark and T'Challa risk their lives to keep a lid on their tech proliferating. The Ancient One is extremely selective about who she takes in and we see concrete evidence as to exactly why. Banner spends so much time on the run because he's terrified of the Hulk being duplicated. Pym executes an elaborate heist plan to prevent a poor copy of his tech from, surprise surprise, being sold to HYDRA remnants. Half the MCU heroes are occupied with are concerned about the things they know proliferating in to the real world and destroying it. They aren't opposed to the world advancing, but they damn sure are opposed to putting what amounts to nuclear weapons in the hands of street-level criminals with a grudge (and we saw one of those in the Vulture, whose whole business was selling horrifically dangerous weapons made from alien tech).

Seen a couple TV spots with varying FX for one of the villains, got me wondering about where they're all getting pulled from
specifically Electro - he has a line in a couple variants of the trailers, "you're not gonna take this away from me" that is either delivered in normal Jamie Foxx voice... or weird dubstep distorted Electro voice, ala ASM2. Makes me think he might indeed still be that version of him, weird blue skin and all, until he gets some tech to stabilize his transformation? Looks like he has an arc reactor on his chest in some shots.

Doctor Strange says "they all died fighting Spider-Man" which would work for the Raimi versions of Goblin and Ock, and ASM Electro, but what about Sandman? I never got the impression he died in his last scene, he just fucked off, right? And IIRC Lizard was captured alive.

    Oh brilliant
