See, this is the point, with the thread teetering on the edge of Page 3, that I would historically jump in and say something hyperbolic and controversial to bait conversation. I figure, even if people are only posting to call me an asshole, at least they're posting; at least they're still being passionate about HotS.
But I promised to dial that back, so now my bumps are a lot less interesting.

The value of this thread is not that it's on page one of G&T. It's okay for things to be slow sometimes, often even. We don't need to be negative for the sole purpose of trying to make ourselves relevant or whatever.

Maybe a week before the servers shut down they'll delete Abby and Genji from the game.
Give us a perfect golden week.
While I mostly play SL, I'll hop into QM with the wife every once in a while. And I shit you not, 90% of my QM games contain a Aba. It's so frustrating because the game changes from 5v5 wackiness to a very different and specific game. Ruins the experience for me every time.

I'm not even against Aba, but every game is a bit much, yeah. QM is wacky
Or maybe a tower defense tug of war with waves of low-hp a-move melee heroes clashing and you can hat them to help your wave push, and use your copy ult for big pushes or something.

Ever get that guy, I think his name is Bear or something, that just sits at base, hats the core, and AFK's all game? he might only do that in AI games, but his account level was like 900, and 95% of that was Abathur levels, i don't think any other hero was 15.
Anyways, I've been having a terrible time in ARAM. Mainly people just refusing to take things we actually need. I did learn that Anna's Eye of Horus hit's structures. It was fun killing a 1% core from the safety of my fountain.

Yeah I think a big problem with hots comes from QM being the default game state and the game being horribly designed for QM
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Players get into a the match and see the map. They then have 15 seconds to all choose a hero without seeing the enemy comp.

QM is just a bad mode. "I have selected this hero and I will be playing it regardless" is nice and all but Jesus Christ.

Isn't draft the same thing half the time, except it's an extra 6 minutes prepended to every game?

Draft you get to see a comp, the map, and your teammates. You can also ban certain heroes or counterpick.
I basically never see Abathur/Nova/Zera in draft modes. But in QM they are a dime a dozen.

Unranked Draft should have been the default game mode on release. I've had a lot of fun in QM over the years, but the fact that ARAM is literally and unquestionably the more balanced game type is ... well, frankly it's sad lol.
True, but at least I can see what my teammates are taking and adjust my pick accordingly.
You're both right. Sometimes, you're just going to have a teammate that's unwilling or unable to change their pick. It sucks, but the rest of the team can typically still adjust. You see this kind of stuff in ARAM all the time -- everyone seems to be on the same page about the comp, then someone picks a character that, for whatever reason, just completely sticks out, and everyone else either just rolls with the punch or scrambles to adjust accordingly.
Either way, that kind of system -- the literal ARAM system -- is so much healthier overall, and less toxic, and more teamplay focused, and also considerate of the fact that most people who play HotS just want to brawl anyway, that having QM be the default gametype is laughably negligent in hindsight.
Hey look, my allies went ahead and got incorporated!!
As expected, it wasn't very good. ^^'

Yeah it’s not a coincidence that when I log into hots nowadays it’s to ARAM. QM is so bad.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
I'm telling you, you don't need to draft. You can let people pick what they want. Just, behind the scenes, makes sure the comps are reasonable. It makes the queue slightly longer but it still gets you in a game faster than the draft modes
Caving to people complaining about that and removing it was a horrible decision

There are a couple of solutions to the problem.
One is hard limiting roles for queuing. This seems most basic and they have done it….then rolled it back.
Two is to just like, put people into a lobby and let them pick their heroes on the map after they ban two heroes per team. Everyone picks together, but you get to see the map and what everyone else is rolling.

The second option has a good chance to just get you the same problem though. Half the reason people play QM is because they don't want to pick their hero to fit the comp, they want to spam squishy assassins. And they don't want them banned!
The problem with QM is not that you don't see what map you are on.

It is a problem. When I queue for a match wanting to try out hero that does macro real well and I get a two lane map it’s frustrating.
Or may I want a teamfight hero and we get fuckin warhead junction

I wonder if a apex legends style “for the next 10/20/30 minutes, all queued players will be playing on X map” would work. People would likely still queue with whoever, but at least you would know “the next 10 minutes are hanamura, I shouldn’t pick azmo”

OK. I would say that the team comps are am order of magnitude worse, though, and your solution to the maps definitely wouldn't work for the team comp.
Maybe you could only switch within the role you queued as? Or what ronzo said, that'd work too
Munkus BeaverYou don't have to attend every argument you are invited to.Philosophy: Stoicism. Politics: Democratic SocialistRegistered User, ClubPAregular
The game should assign you roles and it should be a reportable offense to not play your role.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
All of those fixes ignore the problem that 10% of the qm population is queuing up as abathur at any given time; there isn't really an equivalent hero to place against him; and his strength varies wildly based on melee hat targets and how much the abathur player decides to play with the team.

Aba has the potential for a really whacky and fun custom like pool party.
Like if he's given some armor while in cocoon, and some fun interactions with burrow and the copy ult.
Heck they could have made his dance do crit dmg as well.
