i was just saying yesterday how i want to become- in the second arc of my life- that guy who can quote poetry at appropriate moments. right now i have these lines memorized:
1) theirs not to reason why,
2) like a patient etherized upon a table
that's it so far, what else
The first one of course learnt whilst hate watching that Saving Private Ryan character who claims his accent is Bavarian when it's pure American high school

The only poetry I've really got memorized is the final chunk of Kubla Khan:

the apparition of these faces in the crowd;
petals on a wet, black bough
the last stanza of the cambridge ladies
the cambridge ladies do not care if,
in its box of sky lavender and cornerless,
the moon rattles like a fragment of angry candy
that's it from immediate memory, but i recognize most of the first lines of everything, which is enough in our day and age.
Neo Yokio is one of my favorite series of all time. It just perfectly encapsulates a certain vibe of socialite absurdity. It's not aspirational per se but I aspire to it nonetheless

the rapids are good this season, yeah! They're still my beloved shitty rapids and i fully expect them to do something embarrassing in the playoffs but right now i'm hype mode

Traveling through the dark I found a deer
dead on the edge of the Wilson River road.
It is usually best to roll them into the canyon:
that road is narrow; to swerve might make more dead.
By glow of the tail-light I stumbled back of the car
and stood by the heap, a doe, a recent killing;
she had stiffened already, almost cold.
I dragged her off; she was large in the belly.
My fingers touching her side brought me the reason—
her side was warm; her fawn lay there waiting,
alive, still, never to be born.
Beside that mountain road I hesitated.
The car aimed ahead its lowered parking lights;
under the hood purred the steady engine.
I stood in the glare of the warm exhaust turning red;
around our group I could hear the wilderness listen.
I thought hard for us all—my only swerving—,
then pushed her over the edge into the river.

In 2011 I wrote this:
on some days
you can smell where the devil's been
it smells like
burnt coffee grounds, and sin
i turned to ask him how much longer
and he said four more years
again

In 2015 I wrote this:
has it been another four years already?
