I'm not an expert on Bollywood dance numbers or anything. I've seen enough to think this one was a bit limp. 1 location, slow, and it only informs us about 1 character, Kingo. Which paints him as a bit of a narcissist, unfortunate because he's the most likeable member of the Eternals.
Whoops, thought I left that post in my drafts, I wanted to think more on it before I posted it.
I don't think Makkari is featured enough to unseat Kingo. I like her because I like the actress in TWD, not because of anything that she did in the movie.
I did really like Gilgamesh. I wouldn't fight you in that one.

Kingo's dancing while featured was kinda feeble and felt off compared to the real deal dancers behind him. Which kinda tracks with him being a narcissist.
edit: I feel like they should have just gone bananas and had a real bollywood dance number. Just hire these people, I mean this one tanked but most Marvel flicks make bank, you can afford to take some chances.

After a second watch of Eternals with my partner, the more I think about it, the more I think it’s aggressively bad as opposed to just watchable. Like there are portions I like, but so much I dislike about it that I can’t get past that - especially on a second viewing.
Edit: My partner I think said it well. This could have worked much better as a TV show instead of a plodding insufferable mess of a movie.

Not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed with the Bollywood set piece.

Does it make Kingo look like a narcissist? He’s playing Ikris in a movie about him. He even has his costume made to look the same.
When I think of Eternals, the first thing that comes to mind is Kingo's deadeyes dance intro. How do you make a big Bollywood dance number look so dull and lifeless? It's got a bunch of moving parts, which it compensates for by being slow and ponderous if you focus on an individual dancer.
And that's kinda the whole movie. It's a story told in broad strokes. The closer you get to the center of the film, meaning Sersi, the slower it gets.
I cannot get behind this take. Kingo's face in that scene was the MVP performance of the movie - it was hilarious and told you a lot about his character before he even opened his mouth - and you're supposed to be looking at him, not the dancers (although the dance is a very pretty backdrop and the track is fire).
This scene was not a Bollywood dance-number interlude, it was an introduction to Kingo.

He's taken the star role in a movie he's directing in what appears to be a long running series (his "father" and "grandfather" preceded him) amounting to a biography of his immortal buddies. That's pretty narcissistic, even if he hasn't played himself in the series it looks to be the case because he's not the most important member of the team so wouldn't be the star of the movie.
I wonder what the time and cost that goes into something like that? Maybe it wasn't worth it given it was a small scene in a non-bollywood movie?
I imagine it was a consideration... but if there's one company that can afford to go absolutely bananas on a Bollywood sequence for shits and giggles, it's Marvel.
I'm kinda curious what Serse thought was going to happen after she killed the celestial. Did she think Arishem as going to be ok with that? Did none of them think that Arishem wasn't going to come back with some consequences? Also, how many other Eternals teams are out there in the universe? One per intelligent race? Are they all made up of the same people? Who is the idiot in the first post credits scene?

Presumably not every world with intelligent life has a celestial at the center, given how infrequently they are born.
Also presumably, not every world with a celestial required deviants to urge development of life.
Unless deviants are able to travel between planets (which they don't really seem capable of?) it seems like a safe assumption that there are Eternals on some subset of of planets with Celestials - the ones where Arishem previously seeded deviants to try to get those planets to grow intelligent life.
Of course, that's assuming Arishem was being honest about any of it.
I assume Sersei's thinking was something like, "If we don't act now then all of these people will definitely die. If we act now and stop the emergence then maybe Arishem comes and kills us and everyone on the planet, but maybe not. Better odds than doing nothing."
The dude who appeared on the Eternals' ship was Thanos' brother, Eros (I think?) aka Starfox (I think?). How he can be both an Eternal and Thanos' brother is a whole thing in the comics that doesn't seem like it can possibly apply in the MCU given what Eternals says about who and what the Eternals and Deviants are, but I guess we'll find out.
Starfox, aka Eros (and yes his powers align with that name as expected). Brother of Thanos. The Titans are rogue Eternals that figured out how to reproduce and founded a society, so it makes sense that out of anyone they would be the ones to support Earth's Eternals against the Celestials. Most of them don't have scrotums on their chin like Thanos.
Or do you mean the drunk idiot? Pip the Troll, who routinely pals around with the likes of Titans and Adam Warlock.

They did an entire full broadway production for a 15 second gag in Hawkeye. I think they can afford to do a full Bollywood number in a mainline MCU film.
The hottest of takes - the Rogers musical bit worked way better as a background element and didn't hold up in quality when they showed the whole thing.

And the bollywood sucked as background so your point is?

It was intentionally terrible. That was the point. The quality is in how purposefully bad it is for Clint to be watching.
Though my roommate, who loves musicals, thought it was great. Somehow.

The Rogers musical number was fine. It's exactly what I'd expect from a Broadway musical about the avengers. It's not fuckin Les Mis but what is?
Likewise the Bollywood number was recognizable as a Bollywood number. I just wanted it to be more bombastic.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

The Rogers musical was great because the intention was parody and it actually pulled it off.
I did not get that feeling from the Eternals dance.

The dance here was not meant to be a parody. The dancing around him was stunning, IMO, but Kingo himself came across as self-absorbed, comedic, and a bit ridiculous. Which was the scene's intent.
To claim that the scene was "bad", because the dance wasn't bombastic, as some have, is silly on it's face. It would seem that instead people want it to hew closer to the classic Bollywood stereotype that's been around for decades.
Bollywood doesn't have to be 'Bombastic' - Bollywood can be slow, sensual, and beautiful. You need only to listen to the music in the scene to know that this is the direction they chose.
If all the dancers around Kingo were jumping up and down and stamping and charging around like in the video linked up-thread, then Kingo's own personality wouldn't stand out as it did, which is the entire point of the scene.

I thought that was a nod to the urban legends about Ant-Man so people just assumed he was at the battle for new York?
Now I wish they had that cameo. It's easy enough to guess what it'd be.
Seems like they'll encounter another universe's avengers team
