She's pretty fun cuz of infinite dings.

I don't know her that well but I tend to do really well with her in aram. Basically she does extra dmg to blinded heroes, right?

Also, what's the right 16 for Q build? Pierce or extra Qs?

Smash is fine, but Rags has no intrinsic setup for it. This means he relies on his teammates to establish the conditions required to make it consistently useful. The issue is, at the levels at which you're likely to find any kind of cooperation from your teammates at all, Rags just isn't viewed as the most competitive hero. So it's hard to really give a clear answer to that one, man; yeah, it's viable for sure, but unless you plan on just throwing it raw and hoping for the best, you're better off sticking to Lava Wave if you don't have a team that will help you set up for Smashes.

It's usually extra Qs, but not because of extra Qs - static electricity fires a free q when you E someone - which is the only way fend ever does real damage sadly.

This free Q is talented, adds to your stacks, and gives you a good burst combo. Between Q, E(Q) and D - your basically calamity li ming but with a bunch more health and armor.

Pierce is fine if your focused on just sustained damage but that's just not this game usually

Slow on E @ 4 is decent setup for it, but still kind of janky. They need to have no mobility for it to work, which is like...hope that Jaina doesn't have IB up.

I've been playing Rag with Smash more than Lava Wave in the past few months. Both are good ult, although basically map/comp dependent. I had one game where our Tank Varian would Taunt engage and I'd follow up with Sulfuras every time. They messaged me after the game to thank me for the follow-ups. As a frequent Tank player, I know that feeling when you don't follow up.

Most mages are good - Kael'thas, Jaina, Gul'dan, Probius, Tass.

Junkrat and Fenix are good if they can stay in range long enough to AA multiple times.

A bunch of melee heroes can be very good, but suffer from having to go into melee range and burning their abilities on the wave. Off the top of my head I can think of Ragnaros, Rehgar, Malthael, Dehaka, Blaze, Leo, and Xul.

Murky gets special mention because he's Murky. He can be very good if he is allowed to Q the wave and his egg is ignored.

For point-blank best waveclear in all circumstances, keeping in mind rotation speed, mana/sustainability, and safety, I'd say Tass & Jaina are really hard to beat, with the other mages and Junkrat/Fenix not too far behind. It's hard to evaluate waveclear in a vacuum because there are heroes who can theoretically clear waves incredibly fast but will likely get killed trying to do so against competent opponents (see: Rag).

I think most assassins full rotation will clear a wave - a lot of them just don't because ya know its a hero brawler...

Guldan is probably the fastest - 2 q's will almost clear a full wave and they are 1.5 seconds apart - post 7 with spell power you can full clear the wave instantly.

If you don't count the windup time on Rags E and full rotation its probably close to the same time.

Jaina W clears it after the full cast in what feels like 3 seconds but don't really know

JR and KT are probably about the same time if using full kit, 2-3 seconds ish.

Most the bruisers are probably the same once your on top of the wave - malth/leo/xul - guessing 3 seconds?

The other factor is can you cast your abilities and walk away instantly.
For example Jaina w, she can mount up as soon as the cast is out and be in her way confident the wave is dead. Or Nazeebo with Zombie wall upgrade and a q chucked in.

Cool, thanks everyone! Looking for some other options for Silver SL matches where I'm probably gonna have to do most of the soaking on my own. Using primarily Bruisers (Malth, Rag, etc) to try and doublesoak, but the team often times doesn't understand what I'm doing and get picked off extending in lanes. Figured I should try out some other heroes that have bigger team fight impacts to go along with wave clear (Jaina, Gul'dan, etc).

dehaka is the other option if your really trying to dbl soak and you feel like teammates keep fighting without you

your less focused on clearing waves, but kinda just catching them as they crash into your towers and then moving on - so long as you get used to the slightly delayed tongue skillshot.

Given the circumstances you're describing (your job is to double-soak, but your team doesn't understand what you're doing and is constantly getting picked), I probably wouldn't advocate for swapping off of Bruiser for Mage. That's just going to make the problem worse, because Bruisers are generally expected to soak and Mages (outside of like, Nazeebo and Azmodan) are generally expected to teamfight.

The HotS playerbase is awful, man. I don't think that's a hot-take at this point. I've never seen a community so wildly out-of-touch with how their game is meant to be played. Ever. It's bewildering to be.

The takeaway is that people on your team are going to feed no matter what character you're on. You're wasting time and energy trying to figure out how to best support them. Because it's like playing chess with a pigeon or whatever. No matter what you do, they're going to knock the pieces over and shit on the table.

MFPallytime always used to say that "doing the wrong thing as a team is better than doing the right thing alone", but he's the epitome of the worst HotS player imaginable to me. And in my experience, the exact opposite is true most of the time.

Soak the lanes. Get XP. Steal enemy camps when you can. Deny enemy team XP.

Your teammates are going to feed on cooldown whether you're with them or not. All they know how to do, all they're ever going to do, is run it down mid and punch-face with the other team.

    Fuck them, keep soaking.

Malthael's job is to soak out of his mind, then show up to a teamfight when his ult is off cooldown to score a pick, and continue soaking. That's why he's ideal for this particular playstyle.

I wouldn't advocate for Dehaka; he's challenging to play effectively. Very map and comp dependent, and his kit is balanced around the global so if you're not leveraging it effectively he feels under-tuned.

Try Sonya. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, Mei.

Sonya is baller, most of her talents have a purpose or build in mind. Slam still bodies people who would think they can trade into her like Illidan. Only issue is squirrelly people like Genji's who know how to AA properly. Even then, Leap fixes that a bit. You can combo it to get them to either back or just flat out kill them if done properly. It's also superb setup for your teammates. If you don't have any confidence there, or you don't need the hard engage then Angry Woman ult is in your back pocket to just steal buildings/out-trade.

The hardest part of Sonya is getting a feel for when you should be taking defensive over offensive talents.
