those are predictable though. I always considered the fuck you stuff to be things you would could get killed by only because there was no way of knowing before hand. I haven't played through in a while, but I felt like 10 was plenty fair. But I am like literally immune to Nintendo hard.

9s strength was really in it's weapons. Almost every one had some utility other than just damage.

I appreciated how much utility a lot of 11's weapons offered too, I mean, one basically gives air dash

To me it’s the checkpointing. They seem to purposefully put these trial and error or difficult sections after a long stretch of level you have to continuously run through each time you die before you get another chance at the challenge part. Yeah, the elephant section isn’t insane, but having one mistake (or getting pulled just a little too much one way or the other and falling into one of the two holes) and having to fight your way all the way back and then take out the first two elephants again to get back to the one you’re fighting with the two pits you have to avoid as well as the ball and getting pulled towards him all at once gets really aggravating after the 12th or so time. Playing it currently on the collection and it was not a fun type of challenge. Nor is running into a mini boss with the gates and everything but not having that be a checkpoint either.

The grabbing machines were annoying and it made you have to really watch your step throughout that level after you ran into them and still you could get picked up and killed. Having no way to fight your way out of that was a bad choice.

And while I’m mainly okay with losing the mega buster, I hate that they removed the slide. Did Mega Man have his circuitry changed or moves removed from 8? Like it makes no sense to downgrade him - I get wanting to make it challenging, but keep it consistent. 11 at least out all that right back in and it feels more like Mega Man with them back. There were more games with the slide than without - only 1 and 2 didn’t have it - so it felt like the game devs felt that Capcom ruined their Mega Man and had to go on the ultimate gate keeping rampage and put things back how they thought it should be. A lot of the choices for 9 and 10 really make no sense to me. And I don’t want to use Protoman to have those abilities, Mega Man had them, he shouldn’t lose them.

I think Capcom is done with Mega Man and 11 was only made to spite Inafune.

Think it was made as a response to the interest in crowdfunding Mighty No.9 which signaled to Capcom interest in the franchise was rising again, not necessarily spite.

Sadly, kids today just aren't interested. I don't really understand how Mega Man has fallen into such obscurity. The only genuinely terrible one I can think of is MMX7. The rest is solid to great.

From what I understand a new game ("Rockman Taisen") is supposed to be in the works and was among the titles mentioned in a Capcom data breach in 2020 with a projected release in 2022.

Of course, it could have been cancelled in the meantime...

    Rockman Battle?

Hope its not a platform fighter or versus game. I mean, it would be fun but with how little we get in terms of full fledged MM games, not what I would want.

But yeah, its always possible it could get canned. I know it was a long time ago but this is still the company that just said "fuck those games" to both Universe and Legends 3 and cancelled them mid development.

Yea, I can't complain too much because I eat up every Monster Hunter out there. Monster Hunter Stories 2 in particular was fantastic and made me realize that they still know how to make a decent RPG, which saddens me even more that Breath of Fire has been a dead franchise for years. :(

Unfortunately this tag-based gimmicky core gameplay has been Inti's calling card for all of their not-Mega Mans ever since they started doing their own thing with MN9, someone there clearly has a hardon for it so I don't think Inti MM-likes are ever going to be your thing.

One big issue with Legends 1 is that it had logos and tie-ins for a real-life drink (Oronamin C) and even a real-life animation school building (YAG or Yoyogi Animation Gakuin) were in the game. Working through those rights issues were why it took so long to be put on the PSN. In the PSP version (only released in Japan) all this stuff was altered.

They kind of ran into a similar thing with Breath of Fire 3, which had a major boss that was based on Ultraman. This was also changed in a PSP port, which got released in Europe. The PSP version came to the US PSN store all the way back in...2016. AFAIK the original Playstation version was never on the PSN.

Really feel like I'm starting to get into the groove of the series now, especially now that I can turn this game into an airbonk em up with Copen. The soundtrack is great, the pixels are awesome, I'm gelling with this.

You know, I also really appreciate that they gave Copen a cool little robot companion as a sidekick instead of a scifi pop idol.

I am honestly not sure. I think there's been talk, but it was never substantiated. The PSN issue was with some Japanese-branded stuff in them, though (like a soft drink or something on the drink machines), and Sony not letting the games be altered for PSN release. They did work it out by charging a little more, as I recall, but a collection would be able to fix that, as we've seen in the others.

This is the part that has me most curious. From what I understand, Mega Man 11 began development in mid to late 2016 and was released in late 2018. This game began development in early 2019 and has a projected release of late 2022. The longer development time plus the bigger budget has me guessing this game won't be a Mega Man 12, but perhaps an attempt at a new direction for the franchise.

I would love a fully 3D Mega Man, if they're willing to commit to making a strong effort. Something not far off from Ratchet and Clank (but earning your weapons instead of buying them), with a bigger focus on action and challenge. Maybe sprinkle a dash of Vanquish.
