I think I just played with someone letting their little sibling use their account, but for a ranked game? That was very bizarre.
oh god did I link the account here that lfx played against that was like 80% adc games with a 80% winrate, and 20% Yuumi games with a ~10% winrate? But it wasn't like elo boost and then switch; they'd switch back and forth in chunks
it was very much two people sharing an account in a way that ruined games for everyone constantly (unless the Yuumi was the really wasted alter ego of the adc player--but I think it was probably a sibling or friend or something)
Hey everyone I have an itemization question: should I be building void staff on Diana if they aren't building MR? Does void staff just counteract their mr, or if they have no mr and I have void staff now they're turbo fucked?
If it matters I'm basically always building rocket belt into zhonyas first.
If their team is likely to build MR it's good. If you can afford it, deathcap is probably almost always better. Voidstaff devalues their natural MR and makes their defensive buys less efficient but if they are a bunch of squishy assassin types anyways won't matter much.
"if you can afford 800 more gold" feels a bit wonky to say; I'd agree with the above that if you're thinking about Void Staff but they have Literally 0 MR Shadowflame is the much better audible. Especially stacking the pen from boots and hexbelt that's a biiiiig increase in burst.
But also Void Staff is just kinda ridiculously gold efficient if there's any MR on the other team. Wit's End or Maw pops up? hell yeah slam that staff
+1
ChaosHatHop, hop, hop, HA!Trick of the lightRegistered Userregular
One of the things I realized pretty quickly too is that very few people have the wherewithal to actually build things based on the things that are happening so Void Staff is pretty rarely a good call at low ELO. When I asked the Void Staff question it was because I looked back through some of my games thinking "huh, even when I am murdering fools left and right nobody builds anything." Even if one person does it, well, the team really needs to have a more concerted effort to build MR for it to be worth it (unless that one person is carrying everything).
It's weird because I'll get a lot of people telling me "BUILD GRIEVOUS WOUNDS" when that's relevant so they're clearly thinking about it SOME. My first two items are almost always stone cold locks (if I'm really feeling it I might build Shadowflame before Hourglass) but after that it's pretty fluid based on, you know, what I need. People are pretty clearly just buying whatever the guide tells them is the next thing though. And to be fair to them you probably don't really need to care that much to get out of bronze elo. On the other hand there have been lots of times where moving stuff like Banshee's Veil or Maw up the priority list have been pretty important.

When I've filled in on SR for my friends itemization has been super weird compared to ARAM bc like, you don't get gold or time to actually do anything. If games typically end between 2-3 items on everyone, when do you find time to fit grievous wounds or defensive items into your build? Unless the other team stacked like Aatrox/Seraphine/Sona or they're all AD, of course, then you possibly rush those before your mythic.
I also think Archaengel's Staff is a pretty crap item overall--buying mana instead of damage feels so bad--but I need the tear for midgame sustain on a bunch of champs and by the time endgame rolls around I just have the money to buy staff and not enough to sell towards a better item like Shadowflame so I get it because a complete item beats a bunch of components when the match is on the line.
It's very weird.

So on Diana if I need grievous I'll usually just get the orb and then finish Morellonomicon later. Especially for grievous because Oblivion Orb does...most of what I need the finished item for, so I can keep building other shit. I might slot it between my second and third items, or after third. It kind of depends on how badly I need it and how much cash I'm backing with. Or for Nocturne, it's pretty easy to build a Hexdrinker and then go back to the regular build.
Maybe I'm doing it wrong, as seen above with the void staff I don't know anything. But it seems sensible. You get a LOT of the effect for reduced cost on the second tier item and what you get for building it fully is more stats most of the time. I don't think those items are super gold efficient for the stats, a lot of it is in the effect. So instead of finishing it less efficiently, you can just be building the more efficient stuff and finish it when you need the slot.
Also, almost every build I've seen has some kind of defensive item second or third most of the time. If my Nocturne is against a very AP team, or the AP mid is the scariest person, it's very simple to swap where Death's Dance and Maw go in the build. In terms of dps stats they're the same and you trade the armor for mr.
TL;DR: I think the only thing you can't really move that much is the first item since that's usually pretty core to what you want to do. Everything else is up for grabs.

Ended up getting into one of those games last night where I was last pick and we had a wall of physical damage, so I ended up grabbing Lux support. The bot was Tristana, so I figured she could follow up any binds with some hard engage to kill someone. And it was into a Teemo/Alistar lane, so I figured the Q's would be best saved to stop incoming engages as well.
Turns out it worked extremely well and we just kind of dumped on them. Max E to fish for poke damage just chunked them down pretty hard. Was pretty good at keeping them away from minions, but Tristana naturally pushes hard due to passive explosions so it didn't matter too much.
Was honestly pretty safe until late game when the enemy Pantheon splatted me a couple of times, but usually those fights turned into a ace, so I was fine with it.

Shits so stupid. So glad they took away Quinn's ability to build a niche split push item for this garbage.

So I played jungle Gwen in a normal and I got my ass handed to me, which wasn't totally surprising. What kind of WAS surprising is that she just felt very difficult to do anything with. Her kit is pretty straightforward, she doesn't seem too technical, have crazy combos, or twice the number of abilities. I think I realized that a lot of these damage only, low utility champions have a different form of difficulty/learning curve and it has to do with the overwhelming amount of context you need.
Gwen doesn't do much besides fight things. She has a little dash but for the most part she can't get away from fights she doesn't want to, she's pretty all in or not in. That means it's really really important to understand what fights you CAN win and then...win them. She's not much like Vi who can disrupt their gameplan and impose her own, and Vi also has a much longer dash range to get out of there if she needs to. If you get surprised as Vi, your options for leaving are much higher. She's also not like Warwick, where the answer to "can I duel them" is basically always "yes" especially in the early game.
So a champion like Gwen or maybe someone like Viego or most assassins, means you have to be really aware of where the champion's redline is at every point in the game and that changes based on who's playing what champs in what combination. Am I ahead or behind right now and how does that change the matchup? Can I beat them anyways?
I have played it a few times and am not really a fan, to a large degree for the reasons you note. Gwen is basically just a DPS / carry champion, and so her ganks don't do much without a lot of lane setup, and you basically play her to hard farm and gain advantages over the other jungler that way. She does, as you note, have some good dueling potential, but even if you compare her to, say, Viego, who has a stun and the mist for utility, she just doesn't bring a lot other than stabbing things with scissors. In general, Gwen will beat most tanks with the right rune setup / any omnivamp just because of how much damage she does.
I do think with the right lane setups (maybe like Ornn / Anivia solo lanes and Leona support?) she'd be more fun, but it requires a more coordinated team comp.

It's definitely a spectrum, but Viego is definitely on the Gwen end rather than say, the Amumu or Vi side of it.
She's pretty fun, she feels like she has just GOD AWFUL ganks. Like the guide I read said "you want to rush three so you can start ganking." Okay great so I can just...run at them? Once you get her a little itemized though she's pretty fun. You just MELT motherfuckers and they think they can step to you because you're low on health, but her sustain is strong and she does true damage so you probably can't. I'm four games in on her and I didn't expect to play that many, just maybe one or two as a change of pace. For pros and cons:
Pro
Love the stupid short cd dash
Ultimate is super fun too
I love the stupid scissors noise for some reason it's very satisfying
It's very amusing to watch people try to do things to you through her shield thingy
High carry potential
Con
Early game ganks, especially pre 6 are very mediocre especially if you don't have a laner with cc
First clear is dicey
Pretty vulnerable to kiting

Just had a game where our adc ended up going 0/8/1 and he was crying and moaning the whole time. He was like 0/3 and said "well ff15 I guess" and kept trying to surrender on cooldown. Meanwhile I am having a good game. Our Yone is having a good game, and the top is fine, I got them back into it through ganks. He eventually started another surrender vote which we voted down instantly, and at the same time we were notified that the enemy team surrendered unanimously.
I just wanted to tell the dude 1) just because you aren't having a good game and living out your power fantasy doesn't mean this is unwinnable and 2) you need to work on your understanding of the game. He asked me at one point why I wasn't ganking more or why I didn't follow him on the attack and I said "you're 0/4 I have no confidence in your decision making, why would I follow you?"
Was just funny, first time I saw simultaneous surrender votes.

I wonder if they'll be able to find a way to balance Kassadin if they're given another thirteen years to try
Lane is Zyra Jinx into Lucian Nami; Nami kept thinking she could position really aggressively, well ahead of her adc, in order to I don't even know, bubble me? so I traded back onto her every single time with soooo much more damage, as did Jinx. Rinse and repeat until we're a level up and each ~4/0/5, and Nami has lost her will to live and inted toplane once, and Lucian is just a non-factor
Unfortunately, toplane is hard losing (Aatrox into Mundo, 0/4--I banned his Tryndamere but he wasn't fucking hovering it, so how was I to know). Mid (Fizz into Vex) is...even? Slightly losing? Jungle has 500 ms ping and is taking dragons but otherwise not doing much.
So we activate BOTLANE CARRY MODE and I go gank Vex, I go gank Mundo, I go to where they're doing rift herald and put an ult in the baron pit and kill all of them. I feel like my team is not playing the map well so I end up with um 90 cs as support in a 27 minute game, and every time I'm in a fight they just get wrecked by plants. Vex tries to delete me but I manage to zhonyas+flash away all but once.

So someone on my team banned Gwen after I declared her as my pick before bans, which...why are they allowed to do that? I feel like Riot could stop that kind of thing. Anyways, I chose Kayn thinking "I'll show him to ban my pick I'm terrible with Kayn" but maybe I'm not anymore? I've gone 4-1 just crushing nerds with him in normals and I still had a great game that one loss, our top just hardcore lost to Nasus.
I do have to remember that my normals MMR is way lower than my ranked one because I spend a lot of time learning new champs on it so the win rate is bad and I'm constantly against Iron players. It does tempt me to try him in ranked though...
I'm watching the LPL finals and it is breaking my little heart to see JackeyLove running Xayah in back to back games.
I hate this pick, please stop making me suffer through it. It's almost as bad as putting Knight on Galio two games in a row.

It's legitimately not his fault
Baron mechanics/Game spoilers
The timer hits 29:00 minutes as the smite is going off. Baron 'levels up' every minute and the extra health throws off the smite. He hits it at 895 hp and it shoots up to 1300 as the effect goes off.
It's still his teams fault for going for that instead of soul point or zoning jinx better but, yeah devastating play

I'm glad the series is interesting (and wrote off TL last week when they inted 3 drafts in a row), but how unlucky is Santorin. Either remove that level up thing entirely or make it so it can't happen in combat.

It's legitimately not his fault
Baron mechanics/Game spoilers
It's still his teams fault for going for that instead of soul point or zoning jinx better but, yeah devastating play
Wow some of these are quite excellent. The Blitzcrank ones are great. Honestly the only ones that I don't really like at all are Caitlyn and she has a kajillion good skins anyways.

whatttt walking into lane as cotton candy pink Caitlyn is a power move; I love it
