Vice organized a couple years ago. That's shitty for him and that sort of treatment is exactly what pushed them to that. :(

Man I can't count on people for shit around here. I get swamped and ask somebody on the back shift to take care of a thing I didn't get to knowing full and goddamned well I'm just gonna have to come in and do it myself the next day.

I don't know why I even bother to ask.

Yeah and he fucking left the company back in 2008 due to "creative differences."

Might as well fucking tell me not to buy a Ford because did you know Henry Ford was a huge anti-Semite? It has no bearing on the company today.

It was Henry Ford and Thomas Edison's friendship and their roadtrips lead to a rebirth of the Klan outside of the south as well as a bunch of other things

He was noted as being an open white supremacist for at least 5 years before that (NYT called him a white supremacist in 2003). I don't have a great view of the other founders who put up with and covered for him for that entire time, much less the founder who was his childhood friend who put up with it for much longer than that.

It's not "Hey don't buy this"
It's "Hey, maybe be suspicious of Vice's claims to be an active leftist organization when they sheltered and built their media around a guy who was known to be a white supremacist right up until it became a larger liability due to his open tirades against Obama".

Are there people who think Vice is a leftist organization? Or is that just in the sense that hard right conservatives refer to anything left of right-leaning-centrism as “socialism”?

I didn't intend the linking of a Vice article to be a promotion of Vice as a somehow virtuous company, anymore than posting from the Washington Post should be considered my approbation of Jeff "fuck my employees" Bezos.

Hell, even current affairs, which I would have called a good leftist news source a few years back, the founder fired the writing staff when they tried to unionize because to him a socialist magazine needed to actually be a hierarchy with him specifically in control.

And Bitch just shuttered over financial troubles.

Thinking about it I have no idea if there’s a major leftist news vehicle in the us now?

They try to position themselves as somewhat left-of-liberal with their article, video, and podcast selection, but generally the management/organization has proven to be lacking in practicing what their journalists preach.

I don't think anyone took it as such. My comment was more a commentary on Vice's hypocrisy as an organization.

This weekend continues to be shit.

I've hit the point in my new post where things are going wrong that I've never encountered so I'm having to figure stuff out on my own, on the weekend, with no support. My troubleshooter is useless and 9 times out of 10 I already know the problem and just point to the thing I can't fix and say "do this" and he does it. I'm the one actually troubleshooting.

In this case it's just a clogged drain. I just can't clear the fucking clog. I'm about ready to find whoever designed this drain (and whole drain assembly) and kick their dicks into paste. This is absolutely bullshit. Who puts 2 or 3 ninety degree angles into a drain pipe that is in close proximity to borax soap, a thing that is famously clumpy and turns into a chunky sludge when thrown into water? I've got nothing that will snake through these bends. I just found the big ass air compressor and I'm gonna see if I can at least hit it with enough air to dislodge it. The little speed air compressor didn't do shit.

I'm tired of having to do everything on my own.

Edit: fuck you, clog, meet big air compressor, bitch

The Vice media brand has been sold multiple times since the Obama administration, so again, what fucking bearing do the founders, who have all exited the company more than a decade ago, have on the current state of the reporting that the Vice outlets do?

Austin Walker founded Waypoint for Vice Media, and having been a listener to Waypoint Radio since its inception, I have a pretty good idea about a myriad of ways that the upper eschalons of the company is fucked up and doesn't understand what they ostensibly are in charge of, but being run a some sort of psyop never came up in the conversations.

I can not stress to you any more plainly than this:
If you question the sincerity or intentions of the journalists and editors currently working at Vice because of the people who founded it, you are being a silly goose of the highest order.

The journalists and editors working at Vice Media are absolutely left of center. They absolutely slant further left than MSM outlets like CNN or NBC.

I have no interest in debating with you whether they qualify as an "active leftist organization" because that could mean fucking anything based on how you want to define each of those words.

Only Gavin McInnes has left the company.

Shane Smith, the guy who was childhood friends with Gavin, was CEO up until 2018, and is currently Executive Chairman.

Suroosh Alvi is still a film maker and journalist with Vice Media.

I think I've been pretty clear that I'm talking about the management. But if not I'll just state it flat out again.

VICE journalists are largely left-of-center to left-of-liberal.

VICE management and as a company has often failed to follow through with any of that. Fairly recently have accusations of unfair wages and sexual harassment brought against them.

I am talking about how the company poses itself as being politically left through it's media, but generally acts like any other company.

I think you're being a bit of a goose and taking the least charitable version of everything I say here, and taking personal offense to pretty mild criticism of "Individuals can be good allies, but companies are suspect allies at best".

You've changed your criticism of Vice every time I've responded to you.

Please don't pretend that your initial post was saying "Individuals can be good allies, but companies are suspect allies at best" when it was literally casting shade on a company as a whole because of an individual.

Edit: But this is the Job thread, upon inspection. Let's leave this tangent be.

Yoo got myself a proper job interview for next week. It's an internal/B2B tech support role which is nice, but apparently they also want someone who can do Apple support, which is...not something I have any real experience with. So I guess I'll spend the rest of the weekend watching youtube vids about iOS to try and talk my way into the job.

My coworker is going to have to do a small presentation about our work to a group of 40 others in the organization. He just sent me his rough outline and it's just such a boring and long thing that's going to hit on too many subjects. He will have no images or anything. The stakes are very low and he is 60. I really am not going to interfere, but it does take some willpower.
