Looks like we're back at it another year.

As always, this thread is for reporting only: please include official sources when reporting a cancellation or postponement. Rumors and hearsay should not be posted. Corrections are also welcome!

If an event is not on here, then dates haven’t been formally announced yet. Or the convention just isn't large enough to merit a post. Or I forgot, because there's quite a few conventions out there.

Canceled
The event is not happening, or at least not publicly. Events with an asterisk * next to them will have an online event, and you can check the official site for the dates on such. Events with a cross (†) have been discontinued either permanently or for the forseeable future

Awesome Games Done Quick 2022*
PAX South 2022†
BlizzCon†
E3 †

Postponed
The event will happen, but is being pushed back from the original planned date for safety reasons. I'm also including events here that announced dates that are later than when the event normally occurs each year.

Anime Boston

On Schedule
These events are still happening as originally announced, but keep an eye on them.

Super Magfest
CES
GDC
PAX East 2022
SXSW
RTX 2022
SDCC
Gen Con
ECCC
Gamescom
PAX West
PAX Unplugged
Gen Con
Dragon Con

Remember to be prepare if you travel:
  • Check for the refund policies on everything you have to reserve in advance. Flights, hotels, rental cars, whatever! We are entering year three of this crap, so there really isn't an excuse for these places to not have contingencies.
  • Be sure to read up on safety policies! Most places will have vaccination requirements, and others may also require masks. Even if you have no problem with masking up, there is a different between masking to go shopping or while working, and wearing a mask for 10+ hours on a vacation.
  • While the vaccine is effective at reducing the risk of serious illness, variants are better at infecting the vaccinated. Before you travel, consider the possibility of a breakthrough infection, and how that would affect the people who live with you. Also how it would affect you if you are unable to work for 1-3 weeks due to contracting the virus.
  • If you are not vaccinated/boosted, then do so in advance so you're not fighting the side effects of the shot while on your trip. Most people are back to normal in 24-72 hours.
  • At the convention, wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, and just be all-around cautious.

    E3 pulling out

    https://venturebeat.com/2022/01/06/e3-shifts-to-online-only-event-because-of-omicron-concerns/

E3 2022 will be remote again due to Omicron.

Though it being due to Omicron might be spin for the ESA abandoning a physical E3 forever.

This is spin. I heard from sources in mid-November, before Omicron's emergence at the end of that month that the ESA had abandoned their dates for the LACC.
Sounds like E3 is all but dead. Can someone else come up with an excuse for everyone to go to LA in June?

BTW, I 100% believe @Futterish's reporting that the ESA gave up on E3 months ago (there would otherwise have been dates on their website) over the PR fluff piece that hit today. No way was this a knee-jerk reaction to Omicron. It's E3 throwing in the towel

    https://www.gencon.com/convention_terms

Gencon is (currently) planning to happen this year (August 4th through 7th) in person as well as online.

Masks are still expected at all times (except when eating/drinking), and they've added a requirement that attendance will require being fully vaccinated as well, though they clarified in their Facebook post's comments that this does not *currently* (emphasis mine) mean being boosted, though obviously it's a good idea for those still working on it (and for some of us, that is taking longer than anticipated).

One can argue whether or not such a thing is at all wise, but unless the state or some federal power shuts it down (or the convention decides to throw itself upon the financial grenade), we're 7 months out from showtime.

First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!

They hate doing a physical E3 and have been looking for ways to take all that money without putting in any of the hard work, which is why Pax have been eating their lunch.

From the D&D thread. Anime Expo continuing and reinstating their requirements thanks to TryCatcher's unrelenting reporting:
    TryCatcher wrote: »
Excellent news. Anime Expo caved after all the very pissed off people talked to them about it:
AX family - we hear you.

We have reinstated our previous COVID-19 policy requiring both proof of vaccination (or negative test) and face coverings for entry. This policy is final. More information here: https://anime-expo.org/health-safety/

So, there's a fresh issue, thanks to the annoucement, less than one month before, that Anime Expo will no longer requiere proof of vaccination or negative test for entry:

We have updated our COVID-19 Health & Safety Protocols. While face coverings will still be required inside the LACC, we will no longer be requiring proof of vaccination or negative test for entry. More information is available here: https://anime-expo.org/health-safety/

So, now a lot of people are facing the terrible choice of either get exposed or watch thousands of dollars that were spent on setting up a booth go down the drain, so they have to scramble to find ways to limit exposure. This on the middle of a wave and with the inmediate results of events like PAX.

Needless to say, there's a lot of very pissed off people about it, for good reason.
