I would watch more Supernatural, but then I'd have to give up the bit that I've only seen the one episode that matters (Scoobynatural)

Honestly if you’re only gonna see one episode, that’s real high up there

If you liked Scoobynatural, there are quite a few weird as fuck episodes that might be your jam. The absurdity in that episode was definitely not a one-off thing.

Hey, also, the first episode of Daisy Jones and the Six is real good. Great cast, good setup for the story, fantastic original songs (apparently written by the likes of Blake Mills, Jackson Brown, Phoebe Bridgers, Marcus Mumford and a bunch of other ringers), and it’s got Timothy Olyphant in a hilariously bad wig.

    It kinda rules.

Yeah like after the first five seasons, Supernatural definitely isn't as good but there are some gems in there even towards the end.

the leviathan season starts it back on the good track

    well they definitely happened

Can a punny name keep a show interesting?

    There answer is no.

I watched 3 episodes of Surreal Estate. It's a (fictional) show about a real estate agency that deals with haunted houses, and I found it pretty boring.

We dropped out like halfway through 9, so I’d argue the improvement came after that.

    And season 5 was fine.

We put on Grand Crew on a whim last night, and ended up blowing through the entire first season. The chemistry is great, the jokes are hilarious, just a wonderful hangout sitcom. Really excited to start season 2.

Antlers was a pretty awesome Wendigo film. At least I remember the effects, creature design and gore being pretty gnarly even if the film overall is just kind of there

It's use of wendigo mythology without significant indigenous American presence on-screen or off (Graham Greene gives a lovely exposition dump to those white people and that's about it) is pretty fucking egregious

Especially when it's adapting a short story that doesn't actually invoke the wendigo

I really wanted to like Antlers but even if you remove the questionable Mythology of the movie…it just west that good.

It's the eliding over important details that gets me.

"I always tell the truth" Just not the whole truth cause you're trying to sell something, or it might make you look bad or liable. Or puts paid to why your advice is bunk for the everyday person vs. the investor class who can afford to get wrecked by stardust and fughazi. Just all those little micro-fractures that they'll never own up to and as you said, will never be satisfactorily called to account for.

Hasan rips into him pretty hard for claiming to have lost $16 million of his own money in the FTX debacle. It was, provably, bullshit and creative accounting to make him look more sympathetic (“I’m a victim, too!”), and Hasan didn’t let him get away with it. He eventually gets him to admit he only lost, maybe, $1 million of his own real investment. Kevin acts like that’s still a big deal, and Hasan points out that it’s basically play money for him and that retail investors got fucked way harder. Doesn’t even let him get a bullshit rebuttal in after that.

I get that, but like this does nothing to O'leary and anything he can claim Hassan was rude to him and unsympathetic to him even in his losses etc. The guy is slime and he'll never suffer a day in his life and in fact benefit from being slimey.

Like Marcus Lemonis is probably equally as slimey, but at least his public face was more welcoming and his message about how to make money in business on his show was at least "take care of your workers." something I highly doubt he does at camping world but you know at least pretends he does god damn it.

No, of course one interview isn’t going to make much of a difference to a rich asshole. But if journalists as a whole would come prepared and refuse to accept bullshit PR answers from people like him, then we’d be making some progress.

As it is, he has 200 softball puff piece interviews he can do for every one who actually grills him and doesn’t let him off the hook. Which is part of why he faces no consequences for anything. He’s good at PR because we have an industry built around letting him run PR all over it.

I don't think the Daily Show in 2023 is going to be the thing that brings about someone's downfall. It just doesn't have the reach or clout, and billionaires are pretty immune to that sort of thing. What an interview like this does do is provide information that is useful to the public. Getting that guy to back down from a bogus claim and admit what really happened is journalism, and it's valuable journalism. Sure, we can assume that guys like him like about shit, but now it's on the record.

That's a great piece of work because Hasan is outlining exactly what makes investing so dangerous for normal people. The wealthy can continue to make investments and lose eighty percent of the time because they already have so much fucking money it doesn't impact them.

You've got these celebrity investors who give advice, knowing that the normal people are going to get wiped out most of the times but they get to use that story to prop up the investment in the first place

Through the first three episodes of Daisy Jones & the Six, and it’s extremely good! Riley Keough is very good, and is channeling this mixture of Stevie Nicks and Jenny Lewis that just really works. Super tight writing, no filler. I’d give it a strong recommend.

Yeah, he’s been great. This After The Cut segment where he just talks with the audience after the Kevin O’Leary interview is just so full of sincere empathy. It’s only like 3 minutes long, but it’s such a unique bit of TV.
