There are a lot of classic, all time great movies, that I've never seen and frankly don't want to because their impact on the pop culture landscape is so fucking huge it feels like I already know it.
Godfather is probably at the top of that list.
speaking of filling movie blind spots, my wife has been on a couple trips out of town so I've been watching violent movies that she's not interested in. I watched Robocop and The Man From Nowhere, and tonight it's Predator. I'm not sure if 80s action flicks count as classic all-time greats, but I do enjoy going "oh, so that's where that's from"
update: mostly I watched Predator so I could finally watch Prey tonight.
Goddamn, that's an awesome movie.
I haven't been able to stop thinking about how great this movie is, now I'm trying to strategize how to convince my wife to watch it. She can deal with some violence, has a hard time with animals getting hurt tho.
There was a period of time where this movie was on Comedy Central three times a day and I think I finally saw the whole thing in aggregate over a month and multiple viewings.

I think that was around summer 2001, because my roommate and I watched this movie probably 20 times over that summer simply because it was On TV and everything else sucked.

While we're taking about movies that Comedy Central aired a bunch, has anyone on earth actually seen PCU outside of that channel?

There are A LOT of good films that represent the 1990's well.
Clueless, Reality Bites, Can't Hardly Wait, Empire Records, and many more.
But on most days if you asked me for a film that gets the general feeling of the decade, the typical day to day energy of the 1990s, it's So I Married An Axe-Murderer.

Man, what happened to Nancy Travis? I hope she got enough money to retire and then just retired and lived her best life. Something I feel like a lot of actors should do, honestly.

man Airheads was way better than it had any right to be (haven't seen it in years so hopefully it doesn't have too much problematic stuff!)

I feel like "most 90's movie" needs Semi-Charmed Life in either the movie, the trailer, or preferably, both.
That song came out in 1997
The 90s didn't actually start until 1996, so that works.
The "most 60's" year of the 60's is '68 and the "most 80's" year of the 80's is '87. I don't make the rules, but it ain't the most 90's if it don't have that "doot doot doot".
My pitch for Most 90s movie is Bulworth, a movie that could not have been made even one microsecond earlier or later
this is where i am at with tank girl, actually

Lotta 90s movies had great soundtracks, but not many of them hold up to the Tank Girl soundtrack.
She said, "You're pretty good with words, but words won't save your life."
And they didn't.
So he died.

I legit thought that the star of tank girl was gwen stefani for some reason.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
i mean there is also the part where ice t has a rap song that sums up the character of the tank girl that plays during an action sequence featuring the tank girl

Lawnmower Man is definitely a movie of the 90s but it's still lacking a lot of the most outrageously 90s elements to be considered a true 90s-ass movie
when i think of a 90s movie for being a '90s' movie for some reason my brain goes to You've Got Mail, but i think that's mostly because of the AOL association

What elements are key to a 90s movie? Soundtrack full of needledrops? Neon clothes? Hornyness?
Roger Ebert was one of the great ones and he is missed daily.
I always liked him as a reviewer because even when I didn't agree with his take, he made a solid effort to engage with a movie on its own terms, and was often clear in his biases.
Made his reviews interesting and informative film crit to read!

Batman & Robin is my pick when I think of quintessentially 90s movies
I miss the era of late 90s when they started putting music videos at the end of a VHS, Kiss From a Rose and the Men in Black music videos being the most iconic. I was trying to think of others but I'm coming up short. Did Titanic do it? It was already 2 cassettes so I don't know if it would have had space

I just watched Brainscan and that film maybe needs to be in the conversation. The love interest character has 3 Aerosmith posters in her bedroom and the best friend is perpetually on the verge of delivering news about a Dell computer.

PCU, Empire Records and Airheads were my trifecta of always on and would watch them anyway viewing for a solid 5 years.

I'm sorry you don't appreciate Alicia Silverstone but she won't be around forever. That is a bummer.
Pierce Brossnan, bad CGI, Scenes with VR. it's a good Canidate I feel.
i am tripling down on my assertion it is the most nineties movie after hearing multiple cuts from punk-o-ramas past
so really it was never a fair contest
The guy from NCIS?

I have no idea either but it did give us this music video and that says a lot
