Weirdly when just looking at the Offspring's wikipedia to see what they're up to I learned that their drummer left in 2021 because he refused to get a covid vaccination, and he's now in a band with Dicky Barrett from the Bosstones. Small world.
It's an interesting move to do the anti-vax thing when your frontman has a phd in molecular biology, and I think specialized in virus/RNA stuff. That doesn't mean he also won't be a wanker, but there's a pretty good chance he'll understand the benefits of vaccines.

I find, in order to understand the benefits of vaccines, one only needs to not be an ignorant fuck.

My recollection of the story is that the drummer actually does have one of the few legitimate medical conditions that makes getting the vaccine not a great idea.

Both him and the band said it was amicable, and to be fair, the drum throne in The Offspring is a pretty rotating affair. I think they’ve had 10 drummers over the last 40 years. They just didn’t want to risk bringing an unvaccinated member of the band on tour, which is probably smart, and he apparently didn’t make a big deal about it.
She said, "You're pretty good with words, but words won't save your life."
And they didn't.
So he died.
That's a much better version than what the Internet made from it when it happened, thanks gang.

Though if you're a person who can't get vaccinated for medical reasons and then you make a new band with a guy who is actually Anti Vax you probably ain't the smartest

Hey now, don't be so reductive about the that band and pigeonhole them as an "anti-vax" band.
They're also crazy Scientologists.

I always associate Hackers as being a 90s ass film
Not because it actually depicted anything remotely close to computer culture in the 90s, but rather that it's particular brand of batshit insanity could only be born of the 1990s.
Edit: same with Batman Forever

his pitch perfect rendition of Rob Thomas highly specific vocal inflection, and being able to squeeze an extra 5% essence of douchiness from it

The Flash: this was the most annoying movie I have ever watched. I wanted to reach into the screen and throttle Ezra Miller, and then their younger doppelgänger showed up…
It sucks because Michael Keaton is extremely watchable and doing his darndest to bring back that old Batman charm, but you gotta put up with some of the most annoying character work put to film to get to that point.
I don’t really have a LOT of reverence for the Keaton Batman flicks as they weren’t my jam growing up, but I guess for me it would be like if, I don’t know, they got the original cast or Jurassic Park back together for a new film but you had to put up with say, a Chris Pratt, for the majority of the movie. I’d hate that!
Anyway, first flick I didn’t finish in a long while, it sucked too hard.
First movie that came to mind as The Most 90s was Speed. Just a gut feeling.
I was gonna nominate the first Bad Boys as the most 90s movie to not be made in the 90s but when I checked it actually came out in ‘95! Dunno why I got confused on that one.
Lawnmower Man is definitely a movie of the 90s but it's still lacking a lot of the most outrageously 90s elements to be considered a true 90s-ass movie
What elements are key to a 90s movie? Soundtrack full of needledrops? Neon clothes? Hornyness?

Speaking of the 90s I watched Tremors for the first time in years and that holds up!
It's fun, it's got some good jokes, it does some decently established action sequences, and the practical effects are a bit rubbery but they're there and they look decent.
There's like one really bad green screen shot in the rec room but it's preceded (or succeeded I can't remember) by an absolutely seamless mini-full size transition that I never would have even thought about if a bunch of film nerds didn't call attention to it.

Just got out of Bottoms. What a blast that flick was, what a time I had! Scrappy and surprising, funny as hell, real good time.
Did one of my favorite things a feature comedy can do, which is create and exist in its own bizarre world with its own strange logic, just splashing around in its own weird soup. Where part of the fun is just learning more about how the world works, in seeing what else it catches in the reflections of its funhouse mirror. Like the best movies in this mode, it doesn't feel like a direct ripoff of or homage to any one thing in particular - it's not parody, it's not operating in that gear. It's more like Hot Rod or Barb and Star, surreal but animated by a palpable, deliberate core.
Loved the way they turned their low budget into an asset, the way they played their surreality into and off of it. Big fan of brilliant art that's also brilliant craft.
Everybody in the cast rules, Edebiri and Sennott continue to prove that they are and shall remain stars, but I want to give special shoutouts to Havana Rose Liu who really elevated what could've easily been a thankless role, and who pulled sneaky laughs out in interesting, unexpected places. Definitely curious to see more from her, seems like she's good at finding and conveying an undercurrent, and doing so in the margins of a performance, and goddamn can that carry an actor far. This is maybe overstating it some, but what it brings to mind is Amanda Seyfried in Mean Girls - that thing of, "Oh, this isn't the role where you show off all the tools in your belt, this is a little silly and we're all having fun, but you're stealthily really good, huh?"
Anyway, good time! I was glad to see it in the theater but I believe it's coming to streaming fairly soon
As I was getting caught up on the thread I was thinking I'd throw my hat in with Hackers being the most 90s, but now that I've finished I kinda wanna say it's Mortal Kombat.

It's funny how the trailers are pushing Bottoms as being raunchy, when it's really not at all. Ton of profanity, and lots of uncomfortable violence, but otherwise, it's a fairly tame film.
The side characters really steal the show, especially Hazel, the psychotic teacher, and
""Gay Yoda"".
I would say that's the most absurd high school I've ever seen, but my friend said it sounded like his.

I wasn’t a big party goer in high school but when I see high schoolers in these indie horror movies always snorting cocaine…I feel like cocaine wasn’t a big part of high school parties.
Reminds me of the line from 21 Jump Street when Channing Tatum grabs the cocaine for the party and Jonah Hill says
“We’re trying to show them a good time, not ruin their life.”

I watched PCU and Airheads because Comedy Central would play those all the time.
Also how I actually watched tons of SNL, before realizing what the S actually stood for.
