I've said it elsewhere: Get your imported goods on, now. Thinking of a PC upgrade? Pull that trigger. Thinking about some other entertainment goods purchase? Waiting longer isn't going to help.

If it's within your means, then think hard about it.

So like, food, clothing, home and auto repair?

Canada/China/Mexico is nearly half our trade. Even things we make here, and then export, use parts from other places. Nothing is going to get by unscathed, and a lot of jobs and industries are just going to crash, especially when you add in the retaliatory tarrifs.

My thinking is more to grab 3-4 raspberry pi's to have on hand. Worst case they make excellent non-gaming computers, and I keep finding special-case uses for them (I'm on my fourth now; seriously they are awesome damned little buggers.)

Yeah, I'll be getting one or two on Friday. Never hurts to have some spares.

yea it's really worked well when large non-gaming tech companies decide to make games.

super good, you should def do it elon and not just pretend like you're going to in order to get a cheap headline.

maybe you could even make a game streaming service, those have done even better. excellent use of money.

So fun fact: I got on Twitter expressley because there were a few artists that I appreciated and this was a way for me to express my communication and actually talk with them. As a result I got to have an incredibly sanitized feed wherein I rarely ventured out to see what some random politician (who's an asshole) had to say.

And now I've started seeing them making accounts over on bluesky so I have even less reason to bother with X.

Technically that is what IRST (Infrared search and track) and optical-electric systems do. It's just that they're...mostly useful at ranges shorter than 50km ranges (against low-profile aircraft. Which most stealth aircraft try to be). In which case a stealth aircraft flying at 30000 feet has already dropped a glide bomb some 20km before that, turned around and they're on their way home.

I will not hear this Justin Hammer slander. Without direct access to the Iron Man suit they were closer to replicating it than Stark Industries itself got with the Mk. I in hand. And they successfully refitted the War Machine suit. During the sales pitch for that project he showed a solid sight knowledge of many of his company's products.

I remember sometime around covid Dan Carlin did an interview on hardcore history addendum about military aerospace history with 2 spacex guys that I didn’t really pay much attention to who were but it popped up in my listen queue while driving, and I noticed one seemed really on the ball and one seemed like one of these dumbass galaxy brain types that thinks they know a lot about something but doesn’t really understand it, and I was wondering a bit why they even had that guy on at all, and over the course of the interview I realized galaxy brain know it all dumbass guy was Elon Musk.

in other "look at where this guy comes from" news, Elon Musk's father just did a lengthy podcast episode that opens with the host saying "I bet the last time you had this many black people in your house someone was trying to rob you"

I'd argue asshole techies getting into the game space, is why the game industry is such a shit show right now. Pretty sure a number of predatory business tactics in the industry originated from people like Musk, who don't give a shit about video games, outside of how they can personally enrich themselves. It's the big corporate companies run by greedy assholes, trying to fill the void in their pathetic fucking lives, that push for the bullshit model of "It needs to be an online service, with lots of micro-transactions, battle passes, a DLC for every new bit of content and has to monopolize all the time of the players, so we can get all the money."

I also dread the dip shit is fully on board with the poorly thought out "save the games" initiative. For those not in the know, it basically boils down to forcing game companies to either continue supporting online service games that are no longer profitable for them or having to give up ownership of their IP if they refuse to continue supporting those games . Ironically, it's shit that would fuck over the small game developers the most; especially, when one gets a better understand of why so many games are online services. It's something I can support, even when I have a fair bit of criticism towards the games industry. Honestly, online service games as a concept aren't predatory, it's just that for a number of scummy tactics in the industry to work, they need a setup where they have control of the data and unfortunately, that means it has to be an online service. To keep this more on topic, no way in hell Musk's shit ass developer doesn't double down on battle passes, micro-transactions, DLCs, loot boxes and all the misuse of psychology to pressure players into spending a shit ton of cash they shouldn't.

Also Musk is showing his whole ass again because the last thing you want writing code for anything is rubbish, derivative AI, that haphazardly steals other peoples work, throws it in a blender and then shits out something at best is mid. Code that will likely require a host or regular people to go through and fix because it have a host o issues that can't just be ignored.

More generally, it's business people controlling art. Tech is just a very effective area of business with a huge inherent intersection with tech-based art. Business people also ruin tech. They're just generally bad for everything.

I find it really funny how we always know when he's having a sad, because he invariably ends up on the internet publicly kicking himself in the nuts for attention.

Pretty sure this is Musk's version of retail therapy, divorced dad energy (god help us when he stumbles upon the divorced dad CCG), and getting the "no homers" treatment at Mar-a-lago all wrapped up in one. And probably some bad news from one of his businesses, then his drug cocktail, and now here he is posting on Twitter that he's gonna have his AI company steal all the art on the internet and jam it into a worse clone of his favorite "strategy" phone game - because you know that's what he's gonna do. Or make his own sad dad diablo where only he can be number on the leaderboards.

Musk is probably not aiming to make money from this. He knows that the key to the minds of the next generation of young men is through games. He can pump out games full of Nazi propaganda and the next generation will be at his beck and call. The previous 20 years of games only did that accidentally.

Not sure where AI comes into this. Probably nowhere.

That's way better for the industry than him trying to be Embracer Group but better. Way more limited. Industry can stand yet another shitty studio run by a terrible person. There's been and are a lot of those.

Oh my god, I just read the full tweet to which Elon replied, and..
gamers have always been trolls, anti-greedy corporations, anti-bs

gamers have always rejected dumb manipulative bs, and can tell when someone is an outsider poser
This is one the most un-selfaware posts I have ever read (right up there with Elon's reply to it). Even more surprising, given that the person who wrote it (the founder of Dogecoin) is old enough to remember the original Playstation/Xbox fanboy wars, all the Mortal Kombat games released around 2000, the Ouya, Kingdom's of Amalur, goddamn anything to do with Peter Molyneux... the list is REALLY long of gamers falling for dumb manipulative bs, and throwing around the "outsider poser" label when it absolutely doesn't apply.

    Bwahaha.

Ok Elon Musk, I know you google your name every night so I know you are reading this…

You may have people around you tell you making a game is like starting a restaurant - either you know what you are doing or you lose your ass, and even massive companies like Amazon, Google, Meta, and industry stalwarts like Sony, Square, and Ubisoft have had costly fuck ups lately.

Don’t listen bro. You’re better than that. You play polytopia, you have your finger on the heart of gaming…

So I have a proposal for you. Here’s what you do. Look at what people like now. Overwatch and Apex Legends. You need to make a game exactly like that. Don’t bother with anything original, just play it safe. Here’s an idea, make the characters all look like they came from a B tier superhero movie. Better yet, license a B tier superhero movie, I hear Trump has inroads with the Shazam guy.

Be sure to spend a ton of money on cinematic trailers even though your game has no actual story, people like that. Hell, go the next step too. Make your game the anchor of a streaming service. Those are in now. Make sure your game is exclusive to your subscription based service to get those subs up. And don’t be a lame ass and make your streaming service run on PC, that is what a traditional company would do. You need to disrupt the market, you need to make a whole new piece of hardware for people to go buy. That is the key, get people spending more money. Make it an online exclusive to cut out the middle man! Hell go nuts, rather than just selling characters as dlc, you can sell toys that unlock the characters in the game! Double dip on the physical merchandise!

Elon, bro, I know you are going to have a ton of people say this is a bad idea, but what do they know? Are they a former #1 in the world diablo 4 speed runner? No they aren’t. Throw a few billion at it, you know you want to. Godspeed bro.

There is a tiny segment that are very vocal on YouTube who have a very different definition of a good game (example: the yelling-about-pronouns guy) which meshes very well with Musk's worldview. Musk wants adulation on social media much more than he wants money, as long as that influencer claque is adequately fellatory he will be able to convince himself those negligible sales and desolate concurrent player counts are all just some kind of conspiracy by the woke.

Unfortunately there is an unpleasantly large, or at least vocal, minority who really want "politics" kept out of their games. Incidentally there's only two genders, male and political, two sexualities, heterosexual and political, two races, white and political, etc. So you see they aren't transphobic, misogynistic, homophobic, racist, etc., etc. they just don't want otherwise good games ruined by all these "political" elements. Of course over time they've become a lot more mask off about just being a bunch of hateful little shits terrified of the notion that they might not actually be the universal default that everyone has to cater to.
