Do other people switch accents when talking to people of their own background?
um
no?
when i speak russian it turns into a full on russian accent
but that's a language change
When I'm speaking to Indian people and they don't want to speak Hindi or Telugu or Tamil or whatever I just speak English at them the way I did in India. With an Indian accent.

My friend is black and whenever he is talking to most people he speaks like a white person but if he's talking to another black person he switches into gangsta speak.

My mom does this. When she's with family or talking to an islander she gets this caribbean islander accent going on. Then when she's talking to everyone else it's her normal accent.
I can switch and assimilate into any accent that currently surrounds me. It's kinda weird.
But really I was in Oxford for three weeks and by the second week no one could tell I didn't usually talk with a British accent.
I am also a pro at HongKongnese, Singlish, and Chinglish.
Oh man Singlish is a league of its own.
isn't singlish and chinglish the same
i thought sino = chinese so isn't that redundant??
no that's stupid
Singlish is from Singapore. It is a mashup of Mandarin, Cantonese, English, Hokkien (Fujian), Malay, and Tamil. It draws slang from all of the above dialects/languages and its accent is very distinctive. It is also grammatically incorrect 100% of the time.
Chinglish is from China and is really just how most Chinese people speak English; it's an accent and some common grammatical errors.

All I know about Singaporean is that they append "la" and "lar" to their phrases a lot

i haven't quite adopted it into my speech yet but i have dropped it once or twice
i'm not sure this is a good thing
P.S. There totally is a northwest accent. we drop the ends of our words. It's like we're too lazy to finish them, each and every one.
and "been" more like "ben" instead of "bin"
other than that I have a non-discernible american accent
Howard Hughes
He paid his execs their bonuses tax free by spreading lies about them after they quit, then they'd sue, then He'd settle out of court for their bonus.

It entails having the most unflattering accent in the whole fucking world
talking out your nose, dude
It's probably due to growing up bilingual
I, on the other hand, pick up and speak other languages pretty easily but when I'm speaking english I can't put on any other accent
I am just following my own precedent at this point
goddamn that is hardcore indie dude
that is like wearing six thousand scarves
lost it pretty quick though
now i can only do an overt cariacture of it
if I tried to do an irish accent I would just end up saying "tree" instead of "three," that is all I remember from the movie once and going to ireland
seriously
fields of that magnitude are usually only generated outside the CD press for a new Decemberists album
bowtied, you've spent time in Ireland? Where'd you go?
no that's stupid

no-one else in the world has my voice
I attribute this to having watched that episode of the Simpsons when they go to Australia a million times
and also that time when I kidnapped Oden
That sounds fucking intense
