yes comparing liking/disliking video games to religious zealotry is totally not a huge, illogical step
thanks, pony
He was comparing fanboyism to zealotry and I really don't see that as being terribly far off.
its entirely off jesus christ
what kind of disconnect with reality do you have that you actually compare entertainment and squabbles over that to fucking religion come the fuck on, man
Because it is the same mindset? He's not talking about religion, he's talking about extremism. Xenophobia, nationalism, fanaticism, these are all cards from the same deck. Fanboyism displays many similar traits to these concepts. I'm not saying that its not a bit overboard to draw the parallel, but I am saying that it assuredly makes sense.
But the logical leap is so fucking extreme and ridiculous that the parallel he attempted to draw is fucking retarded
I just don't see it that way. He was drawing a parallel to a form of extremism. Admittedly his choice for comparison was extreme, but it was an entirely valid point to make regardless. The aforementioned extremist conditions are all the same thing but carried out in different mediums. Relegion has ferver, the ethnic supremacist has xenophobia ect ect.
I am sorry, but I cannot call his post absurd simply for drawing an over-the-top comparison in order to further reinforce his belief. I mean, come on, this is Pony. He will mention his nonspecific but potent religious convictions if he deems it necessary, or he will bring it up, because of their potency. Because he sees it important, or whatever. You should come to expect this and not blow up when he seeks the most readily available religious comparison.
yes comparing people who have deep-seated beliefs in their religion to people who fight over video games on the internet is totally not a shitty thing to do at all 8-)
I dunno some people have really deep-seated belief in Nintendo

And somehow religious extremism and intolerance is not just as childish?
I'd call all of it shitty, reactionary, unnecessary and entirely too subjective for anyone or any group to presume to pass judgement.

Or you could go to North Korea. Their president is a dead guy. Their current leader is venerated as a god.
That's a different sort of "Star Wars vs Star Trek" than what is usually talked about by nerds, Pony.
They usually talk about if they fought, who would win.
which i also cannot understand
i can't get theoretical superhero fights either
"if sentry fought superman who would win"
that's just
i just don't even know how i can wrap my head around how stupid that sounds to me
wait yes i can
in venture brothers 21 and 24 are have arguments about whether or not the Smurfs are insects or mammals, or who would win (Anne Frank vs. Lizzie Borden)
that's how inane/stupid those kind of things sound to me
theoretical super-hero fights especially make my brain frown, since i've always encountered comic book fans who are into that sort of conversation
like, when it's a playful conversation and you're taking some fun out of it, i guess i can see it
i mean, not my thing, but whatever, they're nerds having fun, okay
it's when they cross over and start being ANGRY AND INTENSE about it and start jutting fingers at each other and referencing specific issues and it's like
wait
guys are you even having fun with this anymore or are you now just pissed that he won't admit that nick fury could beat batman
because when it stops being funny, it starts being sad

Well unlike comic book super-heroes, for whom the laws of physics have no meaning and they can bend them to their will, Star Wars and Star Trek can have hard information inferred from on-screen evidence to calculate ship acceleration, weapon strength, stuff like that. Still extremely geeky, though it requires geeks who have physics degrees. :P

perhaps you are taking a comparison of different sorts of zealotry and how i am unable to really get them too seriously
or
perhaps
you are just on the rag
look i don't know here
is this supposed to be a burn on smart hero or me or both of us or what
you have most certainly confused me
Coincidentally, that was me.

For a small fee, could you go to his house and kneecap him?
I dunno some people have really deep-seated belief in Nintendo
i have never tried red onion relish
i am not a big fan of red onions in a general sense
how close is the relish of such a thing to the taste of the onion itself
They usually talk about if they fought, who would win.

Relish is very sweet
So, not very
And somehow religious extremism and intolerance is not just as childish?

okay, so, i am intrigued
do you just slice a big ole wedge of cheddar and just put relish on there or what
continuing to patiently wait for eight paragraphs
But I thought Broly's power was maximum?
I am Pony
the stuff I type usually is well thought out and makes sense
but I have to type it like this
all like
sentence fragments separated by lines
no punctuation
just like this and every so often I'll have a really long sentence like this one but it's sorta the exception to the rule
this is how I post
