Unable to register new user

I have a friend who is trying to join the forums, but when she clicks the "register" link, she gets the following message:
Sorry, registration has been disabled by the administrator.

I tried from my system as well, and saw the same error. Is this an intended/known issue, and can you let us know when registration will be active again?

    Registration is currently disabled, and we're not sure when it'll be back up. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
