You know, people voting Apoccy over Ultron I get. It's a close fight and they're both badasses.

    But...Spiral over Despero? Wha?

Do you really want every fight for the rest of the tournament to read "Spiral disables this person's powers and they lose."?

The fact that what ever powers she could take from Despero would result in her ass still getting kicked not withstanding.

Do you want every fight in the tournament to be "Despero mind controls his opponent, and then uses his above-Superman level powers to crush then?"

    It cuts both ways.

At least Spiral is doomed against non-powered types.

But then Ultron and Gentleman Ghost don't have brains.

Doom has many times nullified mind control in tournament fights.

And I don't think his superstrength is above Superman's. At all.

This is doom's tournament. Do you really think Doom will fight Despero without placing a stipulation that mind control is off limits?

    DOOM WILL TOLERATE NO DISOBEDIENCE!

The thing is that the same thing is going to happen whenever Doom has a fight, so there is no point in complaining about it.

Seriously. Doom is gonna take the whole thing. Normally saying "<Insert Name> will simply find a way to win" is lame, but with doom, nothing is lame.

    Doom wins. Lets go home.

Also, I'm not convinced that Spiral is that over matched. I voted against her, but in Despero's last apperance Zatanna kicked his ass cold. "Orepsed pots!" and thats it. Magic is deffinately an issue. (Also, in the same issue they rather forcefully mention that Despero's mind control was only so effective b/c the league was so heavily devided at the time. The implication being that if J'onn had himself together it would have gone differently.) Depero can lose, and not just via the Splash Page Beat Down.

I'm not sure. When Doom let him in the tournament it was in response to all the people who wanted Magneto. To punish the fools, Doom said it would have to be the Xorn version of Magneto.

So, yeah. I guess this is Morrison's version, all hopped-up on Kick.

It makes sense too. Abomination is incredibly strong, but he's smart enough where the illusions have an effect beyond pissing him off even more(Hulks too "Hulk Smash" for the illusions to have an effect, I'd imagine. Abom can think straight, and thus can have his mind fucked with)

If Mysterio gets to use his skills to the fullest, or at least to the point where he's allowed to create a series of convincing Hulk illusions that play upon Blonsky's insecurities, then I think he's got a good shot. If he's limited to what he had when he fought Two-Face, then he's screwed.

Grendel (Hunter Rose) would've been a fun addition, now that I think about it, but not being from the big two I doubt he would've made it very far.

That's the basic of the first story, but it's really a lot deeper and more interesting than that. Grendel is something that you really need to read, it's hard to describe, but presented and executed perfectly - its a great read. I like the later stuff better, but Hunter Rose was a good Grendel and the best place to start.

    Gentleman Ghost :(

    Seriously...

Atleast he's only eliminating lame-asses so far. Next round he'll eliminate Shiva, though, depending on the environment(Can't think of one that will give Shiva a chance).

But then? Ghost vs. Doom! Lets see how classy he looks going up against the second most powerful sorceror in the MU. I picture Doom casting some kind of binding spell, confining the ghost to Doom's travel cooler. Then the Ghost's power will keep Doom's drinks cold on long trips

Doom is not a very good sorcerer. He's only the second-best because the others suck even harder.

This is, of course, when comparing him to Doctor Strange, but whatever. Doom hardly ever practices with his mystical mumbo jumbo stuff.

Well, yes, of course he could. He's a good sorcerer, it's just that he's incredibly crap when compared to Doctor Strange.

So yes, I've been a bit unfair towards him about that. But whatever.

Still, it's difficult performing an exorcism when you're being accosted by thousands of ghosts.

More or less difficult than engaging in combat with the legions of Hell?

As far as mystical shit goes, Doom has been through the ringer. I don't think a single ghost would pose him much of a challenge.

    You... You're wrong.

There's no easy way to break it to you. Doom could have been Sorcerer Supreme if he had dedicated himself to magick. Only the fact that he prefers technology and lusts for world domination keeps him from achieving his full mystical potential.

In terms of skill and practice, he isn't a tremendously great sorcerer, but the raw power is there, and he's meticulous enough that when he does decide to use sorcery to accomplish a goal, he makes it work.

Methinks that Doom is playing to his strengths which is to say plotting. and shouting "RICHAAAAAAAAAARRRRDDSSSS!!!"
