Ever seen The Usual Suspects or, to a lesser extent, Heat? Most of the first 2 issues of Criminal were lifted straight from those movies.
I love Brubaker and he's done some great crime comics - but this series just isn't very original compared to what I expect from the guy.
well to the extent that all three of these things are about criminals then yes i suppose they are similar. otherwise, they seem pretty different to me.
IMMORTAL IRON FIST #4
Written by ED BRUBAKER & MATT FRACTION
Pencils and Cover by DAVID AJA
You are Danny Rand -- scion of a martial arts dynasty that stretches back to the dawn of time, CEO of a multibillion-dollar business conglomerate, and a recently reactivated superhero in the Marvel Universe. A plot to destroy you, your legacy, your company and your good name hatched centuries ago and now has you in its clutches -- and your only ally is a might-be-crazy former Iron Fist that somehow survived the First World War. It's your fourth issue. You are probably doomed.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99
Orson Randall!
(?)
[spoiler:aea1250ba6] I am wondering if this is Randall character is somehow related to Danny, perhaps his father or something. From what I have read at various places, you do not age in K'un-L'un The last name is very similar and there has been an Iron Fist legacy, but his dad supposedly died. The similarity of the name is interesting.[/spoiler:aea1250ba6]
Did you read the Marvel Appendix thing? His pops could have went back to Kun-Lun and then came back to our reality and fathered Danny, but there is the thing about him dying in the mountains.
An alternate Danny Rand Iron Fist was apperantly featured in the Exiles at one point, with a huge Heroes for Hire team. Does anyone know what issue this was? I think it involved Apocalypse invading Japan or something.
I hope we get to see a lot of this Orson Randall character, and some explanation about his longevity. And two fisted gun fights with kung fu all over the place.

What has the Rand Corporation done to awaken the wrath of Hydra? Iron Fist kicks his way toward the truth as another piece of the puzzle comes crashing into his life—a living legend long- thought dead! Don’t miss the second action-packed issue of Marvel’s hottest new kung fu series!
32 PGS./Rated T+ ...$2.99
Immortal Iron Fist 2 is out, and man is it good. I think I called who Orson is. [spoiler:6657d79ed0]Very interesting to see the pirate Iron Fist, and what happens when two Iron Fists are active at the same time. Danny and Luke reacting to Misty's Heroes for Hire was a nice touch too.[/spoiler:6657d79ed0]
IMMORTAL IRON FIST #5
Written by MATT FRACTION & ED BRUBAKER
Pencils by DAVID AJA & TRAVEL FOREMAN
Cover by DAVID AJA
It's the collision you've been waiting for: the Iron Fists of two different eras come head to head! Daniel Rand: the Iron Fist of the modern age, rocketed back to front and center of the Marvel Universe. Orson Randall: the Iron Fist of decades past, somehow still alive, somehow still on the run from the nightmare of the first World War, and somehow…sharing…the power of the Iron Fist with Danny. They'll have to learn to work together if they want to escape a trap that sprang to life centuries ago, their shared mystical lineage may be their only hope at surviving HYDRA’s full-on assault against…THE IMMORTAL IRON FIST! Written by Ed Brubaker (CAPTAIN AMERICA) and Matt Fraction (PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL, CASANOVA) and drawn by the brilliant David Aja (DAREDEVIL) with Travel Foreman (ARES).
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99
I don't know if I'm the only one, but that made me laugh so hard. I still keep thinking about it randomly and start giggling to myself.
No, you weren't the only one.
I'm glad to see it's doing so well. The world could use more Iron Fist.
Also a more realistic looking Luke Cage. Seriously, he looks so much better in that page than in any of the civil war stuff. I mean, I know hes a big dude, but there he looks like a human big dude.
The Director's Cut of #1 was indeed very good. All the back matter was sweet. I definitely suggest anyone who loves back matter, Aja's work, or Immortal Iron Fist to get it! The alternate cover for #2 (i think it was the reprint?) was really awesome too, and now I find out that we get more of Wu Ao-Shi in #7!
Yeah, so I picked up #1 today and it's eight kinds of awesome.
But I was wondering...
Is there an explanation for each Iron Fist only lasting for 33 years?
I can only think of one:
This is the first series to explore the concept of an "Iron Fist tradition" in more than a passing way (I think one of Rand's predecessors might have been shown in the PM/IF series, but that was almost 30 years ago). I'll trust Brubaker and Fraction to get it right, though.

I can only think of one:
Iron Fist is Jesus.
I am sure we will get an explanation. We already kind of have one, in that the live a very dangerous life of almost constant conflict, but I think it would be cool if some of them retired to K'un L'un.
Posts
Yeah, except I already have it on DVD.

as different as crime stories get i guess.
[spoiler:9343662b94]Is Danny dead?[/spoiler:9343662b94]
[spoiler:b3309dffea] No, he's still in the DD costume representing Murdock, who is currently bookin' around Europe. [/spoiler:b3309dffea]
I hear he's [spoiler:9fbb3cd0f2]immortal [/spoiler:9fbb3cd0f2]
He's currently in the Negative Zone.
Brubaker talks about Iron Fist.

also http://www.mattfraction.com/ reports that Iron Fist 1 sold the hell out.

Also Doug, we are in agreement on something again. Iron Fist Rocks.

Was that when he fucked colossus up?

I'm really loving what I have seen of #4 so far.

I also made another wallpaper from the issue 4 cover.
