Do I now have two seperate PixelSumorai accounts, one here and one in the chat forums or are they still one account? THey appear to behave as seperate accounts - ie, seperate PM boxes, seperate login, seperate avatar/sig settings etc. so i presume they are seperate.
Does this then mean that new forumers creating accounts post-devolution have to create a new account seperately for each forum or do they just create one account that then automatically splits into these two demi-accounts?
There is an easy way to share sessions and accounts automatically but I think it's two seperate boards judging by the fact that I had to login again and importing was referred to.

As of right now. . .
When you register, you register for both forums. Each forum has it's own profile settings, so if you change one profile, it won't effect the other. This works the same way with bannings. Getting banned from OnTopic won't get you banned from Skelter.

I read that as 'won't get you banned from Skeletor', and immediately thought that would be a cool name for the forum.

Ecoterrorism is actually the single largest terrorist threat at the moment. They don't usually kill people, but they blow up or set on fire very expensive things.
We certainly know how to share information, the question now is, how much do we want to share. PMs? Sessions? User accounts? And if so, to what degree? Ramius, Deni, and I are talking it over, and once we decide we will code appropriately. And yes, we enjoy being able to ban separately, though that runs off of the PABB_banlist table, right now the separate accounts allows for separate jailings (which runs off the user table)

About that jailing thing. Seems there is an error with people banned before the schism. They are unfreeable by normal standards.

yeah, I'm aware of this but haven't fixed it yet. My schedule has been rather fucked up this week, and just 15 minutes ago I did a double-take at the calendar, I had no idea tomorrow was Friday already.
Upsides for separate accounts and sessions include:
- was accomplished with very little programming effort
- separate jailing
- separate deputy, mod , junior admin, and admin status
- profiles are separate which fits in with the differing avatar and sig standards between the boards
- separate banlists
- separate sessions means your "unviewed posts indicators" are kept separately. You can visit one board or the other and not lose track of what you've seen or not seen on the one you didn't visit
Downsides for separate accounts:
- Need to login separately ( might I suggest auto-login? )
- PM boxes are separate ( this one annoys me somewhat )
- super-trolls or spammers have to be handled twice, once for each board. (I'm currently not annoyed enough by this to do something about it. Under sufficient pressure from the mods, I may write code for it)
If there are more downsides, they have not yet made themselves apparent to me. And the very first upside (the one which involves my laziness) is a powerful force for the downsides to reckon with. :P
Seperate forums are just unecessary and making too much extra work for the admins. We have a split community now :'-(
YES Soon the SE and On topic forums will be a different species after countless generations of inbreeding! I can hardly wait!

I like having seperate PM boxes. I'm a PM hoarder anyway and low capacity always bugged me. At least now my PMs will be split more or less evenly between the two accounts.

The extra PM space was pretty much the only good thing about this, I thought. I don't know why anyone's complaining.
a person should only be banned from one forum when they are primarily violating the rules and status quo of that forum.
but, if they do something not tolerated in either, like post porn, make hate-crime type comments, etc. they should immediately be banned from both.
it would be sad to see a troll do a buncha shit on one forum, get banned, then spedn the next half an hour doing the same thing on the other while the mods have to scramble to get on it.

...Scramble?
Mod bans the crapface, switches over to the other forum, opens up Mod CP, and bans him again. That is more around the time of a minute, 2 minutes max.
So he could make 4 posts at the other forum before he was banned there too.
i was told a mod cannot mod himself across the 2 forums
he can.

Don't listen to munkus. It was to make you unhappy.
You make me unhappy, not munkus, or the forum coding.
m i rite?

Well, they're not really separable things. I chaired the Committee on Arguing Small, Cosmetic Features into the Ground.

Well, this sure was the right thread to post that. Good work.
