Honestly, though, I have a hard time scoffing tto deeply at the lolz African-American thing. The attempt was really just to create a term for black folks that was unemcumbered by the past few centuries of nastiness. That Afro-American and African-American turned out to be long-winded and kind of silly isn't a huge condemnation of any general principle imo.
Yeah I never get why people become so riled up about those terms. I thought it just started off as a way for social science nerds to talk about the Civil Rights movement without any connotations. We used to see Afro-American used all the time in Public Health, and its essential definition was "anyone in America black enough to be affected by being black".

I don't really see why we have to complicate things. Why not just say black, white, tan, dark-skinned, etc? It's just a physical description.
Then again I don't think "yellow" is appropriate for Asians as it is still negative to call someone "yellow". Political-correctness is a slippery slope.
This is another topic all together though, so I'm sorry for fueling the fire.

It's not so much complicating things as saying the same thing with bigger words, which is the entire purpose of social sciences.
Also, it was meant to be more than a physical description, but that kind of got lost as time went on.
He's a rich white guy who dresses up in black, then runs around beating the crap out of white people, thus perpetuating the myth of black on white crime in Gotham city. In this manner, Bruce Wayne not only appears to be the noble progressive by hiring a large number of economically disenfranchised blacks, but also cuts his overhead by fanning the flames of racism that keep Gotham's blacks economically disenfranchised and desperate for minimum wage jobs with no benefits at Wayne Enterprises.
That sounded alot more humorous and less reasonable before I typed it all out.
That's just another example of how racism has become a part of our overall society.
What about this? What about if we could have one day where white people, no matter how much or little money you had, could act like absolute animals. They could start it off by sitting around for a long time like they didn't actually have jobs, then gather in large groups (usually with police making an appearance to keep the crowd "calm"). They could then act as nasty as they wanted to each other, often breaking down in insults and fist fights. They would do all of this in pursuit of merchandise that they normally couldn't afford, in an effort to make it seem as if they could live above their means. As a whole, we would sit back and make fun of the events of the day and how stupid the people were.
Then we'd give it a name like "Black Friday." Think about it. And everyone always dreams about a "White Christmas." THINK ABOUT IT!
(I didn't click the link. I was reading the entire thread thinking "watch it be something about Ras Kass or Dead Pres." Looks like I was right.)
