Hob is basically my favorite Sandman character, and might be my most favorite character in comic books in general.

His is the only portrayal of a human-made-immortal I've ever seen that actually feels like the portrayal of a real human being to me (instead of going the "Immortality is a curse oh woe is me I would do anything for the sweet release of death why do all my loved ones keep dying " route that all other immortals - other than Duncan MacLeod, maybe - go).

probably my favorite scene in the series is the meeting in the pub where he's just a stinking homeless loser on the streets who they don't even want to let into the joint and dream asks if he'd like to die now and his response is basically "are you kidding? it's better than being dead!"

My wife's favorite singer is Glen Phillips (the guy from Toad the Wet Sprocket), and she found an audio clip of him during a concert talking about how Season of Mists is the greatest thing ever (he also plugged Watchmen). When I was at the library, I checked it out for her.

Needless to say I've reread it twice since then. I don't think she's picked it up yet. Lucifer on the beach in Australia still makes me cry.

I used to own all the TPB's, and at some point I must have sold them or something, and that was dumb. I'm sorely tempted to grab the Absolute hardcover, but I can't justify that kind of money.

You can get the Absolutes on eBay for cheapish and if you grab DCBS discounts for Absolutes you get them for half off.

While I haven't read Hellboy either, I've been holding off the last six months or so for the release of this bad boy:

Not to derail the Sandman topic, but regarding that Hellboy release. It's out! I was surprised to find it on my 'ordered' stack yesterday.

I'm sad to say I haven't even started reading Sandman yet. I have 2 absolutes waiting for me at home to read them, but I want to have 3 and 4 as well, before I start.

Sandman is my favourite comic ever. I may love dumb stuff like Wolvie and Hulk, but Sandman is a whole other thing. When 'literati' are glib about comics, I'm always tempted to haul 'em off, lock 'em in a room with a box of the comics, and not open the door until they apologise.

I've read them many many times. The last time a friend lent me the aforementioned box of comics and I read them in one sitting, instead of sleeping. That was good for my brain

    Oh man, Sandman. So awesome.

Just read Dream Country (Element Girl story was beautiful), Brief Lives, Endless Nights and The Kindly Ones in a row. Incredible comics, easily equal to the best book experiences I have ever had. Gaiman is simply on another level when it comes to writing.

My favorite character must be Desire.

Desire's speech in The Wake makes my skin crawl. Her piece in Endless Nights is good. "Get down on your knees and lick" was pretty hot, too. Gnarly character though.

Hard to deny Dream's textless emotional response to his actions in brief lives near the end. I remember three or four pages in a row that just tore me down.

Also- We never got to know him very well, but Martin Tenbones pulled at my heartstrings. Maybe just because I love dogs so much, and he reminded me of the best dog you could ever have?

Got to love how even the other Endless call him/her "It".

Season of Mists is easily my favorite Sandman trade. The only thing it lacks is more Fiddler's Green, who is the best place in comics.

If Sandman did nothing else, it gave us "Ramadan." I've yet to see a single comic issue of anything that surpasses it.

Loki was only involved in Morpheus' death (and even then only as a participant in Morpheus's elaborate suicide). We still don't know how the "first" Despair died.

    I haven't read book 11 yet but
I had thought that Delight was killed and came back as Delirium. Was there more information on that?

She grew up. Destruction says she's in transition, and hints towards further changes. It's a puberty metaphor.

And Loki had nothing to do with it.
