Munkus Beaver, it appears that you are easily flummoxed in the arenas of reading comprehension and logic!

If you inspect my post closely, you will see I have called into question your credentials for assessing "the best way to get the best critiques out of a community". This is not the same as questioning your credentials in giving critiques. It would be silly for me to question those credentials, since you yourself said you never offer critiques anyway!

But while we're on the subject, why wouldn't one's lack of artistic ability limit his critical credibility?

You question my credentials on being able to asses a certain process without being a part of the process! I submit that the analogy holds!

    And yet,

    A) Your assessment is suspect.
    Spoilered for brevity.

The statement at issue: "Being an established member of a community is the best way to get the best critiques out of a community."

Are you saying a new member doesn't receive the same quality of criticism as an established member? Don't threads by new people get significant amounts of criticism? You might even say established users begin to receive LESS criticism, as their work becomes more familiar to everybody. Most of what is to be said has been said!

I will agree that the benefits of criticism mount over time, and this is the natural and obvious payoff for membership longevity. "More of a good thing is better" is hardly an earth-shattering revelation!

If you meant something deeper and less obvious, then as someone who does not participate in the process at all, your powers of speculation must be tremendous!
    and

    B) I reiterate the question: why wouldn't one's lack of artistic ability limit his critical credibility?

Hey you guys you know what's funny?

A friend of mine here just told me he remembers the Raptor Jesus thread that I started all those moons ago, and that it was hilarious, and how many of the images contained therein spread via 4chan.

I just met this kid a few months ago, and he slightly knows me, through the internet.

Well, it's not that I have never been a part of the cycle of crits and reviews, it's that I do not give out crits! I used to give out crits, in ages long past. And it's been months and months since the last thing I submitted for review!

As to the first, I've seen people who don't normally give crits crawl out of the woodwork to comment on a particular person who is low on submitted work but high on submitted crits. Of course, having an extremely high volume of works submitted can actually be counter productive because of the reasons you said! I do not disagree!

As to the second, I do not have to be a chef in order to enjoy a meal.

Well yeah, that too. Although whenever I try to have a coloured image I get issues making it a small yet clearly readable image suitable for avatar purposes.

So, last night I went to a leaving do with work, and i ended up flirting quite heavily with a 40ish year old lady. Now i am only 26, but the age difference doesn't really bother me, but the fact that she is a rather important client of the company i work for visiting from the states makes things slightly more complicated. I had a great time with her though, and have found her hugely attractive since I first saw her, and whilst nothing happened in the end (mainly because i freaked out and retreated home, i'm a fool!) i am hoping things will happen in the future. I hope things won't be awkward on monday though .... not really sure how to handle it to be honest. Any advice from the ever savvy ACers?

my advice is back away, not today, disco lady.

i've met some amazing dudes at my work places that i would definitely love to date, but the fact is, dating someone you work with leads to trouble of the craziest variety.
i hate to be a pessimist, but you're 26, and the chances that you will get with this woman and actually stay with her are slim to nil.
so you have to ask yourself, are you willing to sacrifice your job for her?
because from experience (i made the mistake once) things get all sorts of complicated and awkward when work relationships end.
sometimes they get awkward right from the get go. she's a client, how not cool is your boss going to be with that?
the answer is probably very not cool.

as much as she's nice and attractive, i'd personally keep my distance. there are plenty of fish in the sea
especially old broads if that's what you're into. they're always stealthing around looking for fresh young meat, those greedy cougars.

I think finding us a sexy older suger-mamma to take care of all our worries is a common fantasy for us guys in our twenties. I remember how often my dad would tell me how I should just bag a rich one, no matter how old or ugly she is, because in the end when the lights go out, its just a girl...

mykonos: that's all fine and good if she's just your sex buddy and she's cool with that.
but women, no matter how slutty they may be, typically want for something more than just a fuck friend.
so if you've got some old broad that you've basically been using for her crusty old vagina, then it's going to get pretty rough when all of a sudden she wants to go out to dinner and you can't just toss a bag over the old bag's head...

    guys are so silly.
always wanting a replacement mom... who they can fuck. it's kind of gross actually.

jesus beavo. The lady was only about 10ish years older than me ... and it's hardly a "guy" thing. Plenty of women are into their older men. It's an allure of a more experienced person I guess and a more mature person.

To be honest i'm not interested in older women as such, i just don't see age as a reason not to like them, within reason. Certain accents however i definitely find very attractive. Welsh, irish, certain american or canadian accents for example. Oh and i find the new zealand accent completely irresistable!
