Ancient Forum History

Ok, well, I have been around a long long time on the penny arcade forums. I signed up uh, well around my joindate, but I read like entire archive prior to posting. Back then PA didn't have pruning. Threads would grow and grow. It was slow clunky.

This era I made very posts in the forum. What I did discover was the unofficial PA MSN Chatroom back in shit 2002 or 2003. A lot of the upper crust regs at the time hung out there. psilar - 6'5", solid Canadian that was super into martial arts and I believe his field was psychology or psychiatry. Anyway. Great dude. He came on the staff just after and maybe modded at the same time is bizket or whatever. I knew jack about him. Everyone said he was awesome, but dude never talked.

I think at this stage there like may 3-4 subforms tops Millenium/Artist Corner and mabye one other.

psilar decided that it would be awesome to recreate The thunderdome here. It was titled the Pit of Hate. Much drama ensued, which was to know one's surprise. You'd have a couple of retards wander in start yelling each other, dumping on the lawn. Amidst this tough terrain a group of relatively mature forumers started gatherint. Millenium 2 wasn't quite their thing. The needed something else. Oh I know, adult conversations about various topics where you could still totally call people mouthbreathing baby fuckers. That type of group

As this cadre of PoH had gotten attached to each other some outsider wandered in. His name was either lacking_wang or ljsmith at the time. Possibly some variant. Anyhooo....he uh, said some bad things about Gabe's wife.

That was the last day of the Pit of Hate's chaotic stay here. Robsoft, the acknowgled alpha Pitter, took his ball and went home. Sending invites to people that he knew were cool and made an open invite in the Members Only Club Forum up here where your beady eyes will never see it.

That is how I find my way to the Citadel of Truth. The Pit of Hate splinter forum. I assure you, well we were a fall cooler gang than the douchebabg G&T chat thread exiles..Much of PA forum cool kids just jumped ship. drunkey - short dude, lived in my town for a couple of years. Anyway, he posted at CoT. You can guess his theme. I remember really liking him at the time, but started to hate him when we hung in person. Total fucking cockblocker for no reason. Anyway, the median age is closer to 23-27. Almost all out of college with professional jobs. Robsoft was the oldest at like 31-32, but he was an incredibly depressed and bitter alcoholic program that ran his own very stressful software forum. He's actually doing great now and is due to be married soon. I hope so anyway.

Some other notables

hobokenbob- longtime PA forumer. His forum relationship has yet to be topped. He was a Korean banker of some sort in like Boston, aged 21/22. He was internet dating ...

Allie_Gamer - 14 to 15 year old Minnesotan I believe. Incredibly psycho. She made a warrior for NWN that had like 18 CHR and 12 STR because it matched her fanfiction...holy fuck was it fun to PK her in NWN.

Hey dynagrip

yes psilar

is a frienld damage turned on or off???

uh, i dunno just a sec

*BAMF*

uh, Allie_Gamer dropped dead in one hit, so yeah it's on

dibs on the boots.

The drama between CoT and Penny-Arcade was great and it drew me into Penny-arcade whre I started making torrential posts, and picked up a dancing partner here and there and even a Forum Wrassling Tagteam bud.

Here is an excellent comic by GOOR that highlights the period I discussed.

condensation.jpg

I can go one from some sort of chronological order or you know, open this bitch up to questions. It ain't no monologue. If you're curious about some dickbag denilist, CT, whippy and maybe others whisper about, ring this thread up and I will try to answer as much as I can.

There are dead spots, but I know tons of Penny Arcade Forum History. Shit.

So, enjoy it if that's your thing. This is a learning environment for everyone. If you have an extra noteworthy tale, please share. Especially with regards to epic trolls and the rare public mod dogfights.

tl;dr PA Forum Answer and Question session...

I had an account at this point, but I no longer remember what it was. I didn't do much with it. All I remember is that what passed for the forum at the time had absolutely gawdawful layout, and I couldn't much figure out what was what. This may or may not predate the actual creation of the PIt, I'm a little fuzzy on the dates.

Prior to even the pit, we had a message board that had no logins, back in either '00 or '01. You simply typed your username at the top of each post. The only way you could tell if it was actually the real person was by IP address, which were all publicly known.

There was some major reboot just before I started lurking in Feb-March of '02 and signed on in April under the basic theme, but yeah back then it was just,

    Millenium
    Artist corner

Senjutusu, would you be interested in learning the favorite G&T moderator of all time, DrDizaster got his mod powers and how he horribly abused them and was an utter joke as a person/forumer???

You'd probably be more interested in pi. Vegas dude that was incredibly bitter...and retarded. He had been hit by a car or something and had quitea bit more than a gangsta limp. You might have been around for some of his EE incarcnations.

firu- inaugural EE mod with Evander. Guess which one wasn't a giant cockbag that had no business moderating a forum. Dude was probably the best EE/Debater I have ever seen around here. Like significantly better than Shinto if I remember correctly. He worked in the Medical Industry, I believe as some sort of software dude that was going to have be dealing with grad students soon. When he realized that his reading of alt.bbsFuckstories at work wasn't going to cut it in providing stress, he stepped down. He did make a relatively recent comeback. Those posts might still be around.

    The initial rise of Shoe.

Whippy as a young forum mascot. He was so upset about the CoT schizm. Like beyond crying. I felt really bad forum, but yeah. Whatev. And look at him now!

YES, that's what I'm thinking of. My first forays into the forum were with that. That thing seriously blew ass.

And then at some point after the change over I had an account which I never really used, which got lost after the shutdown, which is getting ahead of the story.

Edit: I actually recall most of the DrD stuff, and remember Evander's reign of ...jewiness in EE and such like. But you can tell the story for the younglings if you'd like.

Edit 2: Although I don't actually know how that cunt-moner (DrD, I mean) actually got to be a mod in the first place.

    Three times, at least.

I like modding, yeah. It can be an annoyance sometimes when I have to deal with stuff in other forums, like spam or whatever. My posting habits have changed quite a bit in the past year or so, but I don't think it's directly related to my modship. It's just a feeling of "been there, done that" for most of the debate threads.

He's been here forever and he caught Ramius' eye at some point. CT is not his first account. I do not know what his original account was. He's told some people, I think, but I haven't found anyone that would dish

Basically, he was funny, incisive, and seemed to know himself and others. Oh, and he wasn't a douchebag teenager. That helps tons. Also he didn't a CT for Mod campaign.

His selection was understated compared to most. Pretty interesting. One of the few where I do not know the relevent details about it.

There is a hidden section of the forums, Patrons Forums. It is for anyone that donated prior that paypal donate button beign taken away. We got some perks besides having a back alley that mtdew and I could drag DrDizaster into and MMA his fascist ass.

Uh, for one, there was a while were several forumers had a Dr Seuss related icon tucked on their profile. That was related to Patrons Forum stuff involving those that own and run this site.

Uh, we got to check in early and beta test Ramius magnificient ressurrection of the forums.

They had been utterly destroyed by the Great Sir Robin Goatse Ultra Spam Hurricane. It was lovely, and much work had to be done overhauling
what resulted from that was the kernel for this iteration of the forums.

If you wish to learn how to make me hate you in a super fast way. Please take on the manner of Sir Robin. Protypical Asperger's Forumer. He had that shit before it became mainstream.

TangledThorns was hands down the most magnificent troll I have ever seen.

A guy who would envey against gays men, tout lesbians but only if they were hot, brag about his porno hot wife and explain to us (he was a veteran) that soldiers would rather be killed in Iraq than sit on base being bored stateside. His outrages continued somehow without actually breaking enough rules to get him banned for a significant length of time. It was glorious.

You guys might remember I was a mod for a while. Prior to that, I was a bareknuckled forum brawler. I was ace at seeing the enemy's weakpoints, not on the forums, because fuck that. In their real lives. Their homes. Their failed relationships and endeavors.

mtdew was my more agile and on the message partner. Excellent D&D/EE style master of the art of debate-fu.

Together we were a beautiful team.

Here is the setup when mtdew and I get sick of DrD's shit and pull him into the ring by his ankles. This is after DrD very predictably co-opted, over-ran, and ruined mtdew's idea to harness the nerd energy of the P-A forums to write/design/code our own game. DrD wanted 50 page game design reports. We wanted wandering cowboys in an undead wasteland, fucking shit up. DrD wanted a very ordered structure. 1st PA Pong, then maybe PA-Galaga
and on, until years later, he would have something suitable for his resume to get in with a Game Publisher.

Some thread was going on, i posted in it. I think it was a fucking forum game like

    Let's write a story in 3 words
and everyone posts 3 words to make a fucking monkey-keyboard clusterfuck

I hated those things. So as a mod I started leaning on them. Evander fucking deleted out my posts without asking me.

I was like uh, dude, shouldn't we discuss these things beforehand? He gives me some shit about how long he'd been doing it. Yeah, whatever you horribly ill conceived underwear model.

So, Another moderating opportunity happens, some thread or something, like i created it or encouraged it and the Lion from Zion locked it.

Mod Forum: Uh, Evander, I realize I'm just new here, but srsly

He starts aiming me, being a tool. No fucking fatass mouthbreathing jew afro sporting mother fucker in high school is going to play the wise beat cop that's breaking in the rookie to their neighborhood. No, ma'am.

He started growing about how I'd sprung his trap and proven how shitty I was.

Uh, by going to the mod forum to discuss what the fuck was going on and to air our grievances in private, like men so we could still work together??? Jesus, you're a stupid fuck.
