"I'm Mary damn Marvel" is a terrible fucking line whether or not it is out of character. Try saying that shit out loud, it doesn't have any flow at all.

Well see, DC comics? They really like money? And most comic fans? They're really fucking stupid and buy things for awful reasons. And they have money.

I flipped through this week's Countdown as I always do, and was quite bemused by Mary Marvel's, "I'm Mary damn Marvel!" line. It's like somebody sat down and said, "How can I possibly get this character as wrong as possible?" and then did it. Next up; Superman the foul-mouthed rapist and Batman the mass murdering pedophile.

Haven't been reading All Star Batman and Robin, have we?

Yeah, could do with a summary to make sense of those two images, and I've been reading it all >.<

Granny Goodness, Mary Marvel, and Eclipso= Corruption of Mary Marvel

Jonn, Joker, and Catwoman= Salvation Run

Kingdom Come Superman= That character's appearance in JSA (He has the symbol Ray Palmer gave to people with the vaccine to the furry virus on his hand, so maybe he was meant to be in Countdown).

Cyborg Superman and Regeneration Suit Superman= Sinestro Corps

Trickster, Desaad, Penguin= Pied Piper's story arc, I guess.

Lex Luthor= No clue, so maybe it's something that happens in Final Crisis.

    Broken Green Arrow= Connor's Dead

Broken Skis= Black Racer's death and Death of the New Gods

    I don't know the rest.

Barda and Mister Miracle= Death of the New Gods stuff.

Kyle, Donna, and Red Robin= Their arc in Countdown, I suppose, and Jason's temporary transformation into Red Robin.

Canary and Green Arrow= Probably a reference to his temporary death.

Batman= Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul, I suppose.

    Flash= It's Wally

Mary Marvel= Her inner turmoil? Who cares?

Wonder Woman and Superman= I don't know. Maybe Lois or Batman die.

Blue Beetle next to Legion Flight Ring= Booster Gold bringing Beetle back.

Superboy Prime fought in the Sinestro Corps thing with Cyborg Superman. Afterwards, he puts on the Regeneration Suit and goes around destroying Earths in Countdown.

He never grew a mullet, though.

It happened because of Sinestro Corps, but it didn't happen in Sinestro Corps.

So call it whatever is appropriate, based on that.

I just read this....why do they have to drag Donna and Kyle down with this crap. Kyle's already got plenty to do without trying to police the multiverse (which they'll fail at miserably unless at least Kyle gets his godlike level of Ion power back). All the other stuff....there just aren't words for the disappointment.

Is it possible that Luthor in the picture is a reference to Salvation Run too? I don't know. I haven't read any of it, but thought that Luthor was a big part of it. I was planning on picking up the trade if it was any good.

The DC Nation that talked about it made it sound really awesome (original concept by George R.R. Martin = win). Everything I have heard since then has made it sound pretty mediocre. Might be worth the trade, but I have no regrets about missing it in singles.

    Edit*

I just read DC Nation for this week. I loved how they kind of acknowledged that Countdown sucked without outright saying "Wow, what the hell were we thinking?".

A couple other things in the picture that got left out. The statute of Darkseid is obviously
a reference to his death in Countdown.
Also, if you look in the background, you'll see an eye shape radiating out. I guess that's a reference to Brother Eye's appearance in countdown as well.

Wait, wait. Did Martin actually thought up the concept of Salvation Run for DC, or was DC inspired by something Martin did/wrote? Cause that's the first I heard of it.

    Wait.

    Darkseid died in Countdown?

    What the fuck?

What the bloody point in all the build up to the big showdown between The Source and the anti-life powered Darkseid in Death of the New Gods then, if he's just going to be killed in Countdown anyway?
