And there is a Next Gen/X-Men crossover novel when I thought "OMG X-Men + ST = Awesome". Reading that novel was like learning Santa didn't exist.

That doesn't make sense to me.

Batman based his alter-ego of Matches Malone on an actual small time crook. Matches and his brother pulled a job and the brother ended up dead. Matches faked his own death. Batman assumed the identity until Matches returned. And promptly got himself killed by Scarface.

It's a pretty good "Crazy Batman" storyline, mostly because it deals with an aspect of Batman's multiple identities that isn't often touched on.

yeah, that's why it worked so well for him. he didn't have to spend time "proving" this name that he took on to infiltrate gangs, he just took over an already trusted identity when the opportunity presented itself.

I don't have a scan to hand or even at all, but a panel in Thor: Age of Thunder made me laugh quite loudly.
The panel is of Odin strangling Loki in mad rage, but the text says something like, noble Odin calmly explained his problem to his son who listened intentyl

Hell I know I fucked it up but it was a funny panel.

no, the way it worked was that Phoenix in that page right there is the actual Phoenix Force being housed in a copy it made of Jean Grey's body. The real Jean Grey is in suspended animation at the bottom of that ocean still. This copy is the one that goes on to become Dark Phoenix and kills itself during the Shi'ar Trial.

The "real" Jean was then found by the Avengers a few years later just in time for the original 5 X-Men to launch the first volume of X-Factor.

I wasn't aware people actually read X-men titles.

I thought they just bought it out of habit.

No, it's not. But close enough for dramatic impact.

Besides Batman I have a great fondness for Green Arrow. It's a kind of interesting contrast in how you take the same character concept (Rich playboy who fights crime without super powers) and get two very differant characters.
