A little Arena question: Now, I've come to understand that in order to get Arena points for a week, you need to play ten games. My question is, do you need the ten games for your character or for the Arena team? Say, you've got four people, two of them play the full ten games, the third one plays seven and the fourth only three. That's ten games total for the team, but do players three and four get points because they didn't play ten games?

I think you had to have played at least one third of your teams total games for the week. But that is only a rememberance from when Arenas were first being discussed, I haven't really paid much attention since I don't arena.

The arena team, needs to play at least 10 games. For a person to get points in an arena team, they need to play 30% of all the games the arena team took part in, i.e. if the arena team played 10 games, then for a person to get their weekly points, they need to play 3.

I'm still smarting from my choice of a server that is maybe going to down Brutallus within a week or two (I've got my fingers crossed)

So does that mean it's better to get on a server with high raid progression or low?

You want one with high-ish raid progression (if you check now, I'd suggest one with a few guilds that have killed up through Eredar twins or Mu'ru) and a fairly even horde:alliance ratio (check this here).

There are a few other qualifiers, but they're more miscellaneous. Don't roll on a server with one of the top guilds in the world, for example. Those servers attract people who tend to be SRS BZNS jackasses that want to get in to the top guild but can't for one reason or another. I've also heard tell of a server whose gem market is run by one guy, resulting in absurd prices.

Just... do your research if you're going to stick around in the long term. Check out realm forums, do a search for the realm name on these boards to pick up on whinging. Google it if you don't think you've done enough with those two (I think you probably will have, this issue is less complicated and important than I'm making it seem).

I notice a trend with this game. When people who have raided for a while or otherwise did just PvE for a while, then quit, I notice they have a tendency to come back to the game to PvP a lot more.

I guess I fail to fit into that trend. I focused on pve for so long, that at no point did I ever develop the reaction time and skill that I feel I need to satisfactorily participate in pvp, and I don't find it fun enough to develop those things.

Haha. I'm an idiot. I left a crappy level 5 paladin on a pvp server that I transfered off. I figured I'd see if he was worth keeping and I looked at his bank. Full of mithril, iron and thorium bars.

That might describe me. Post-raiding, I just can't go back and do it anymore, I discovered. I mean, maybe I could if I found the "right guild", one that isn't so hardcore about scheduling/shit out of raid/rules rules rules, but I've never yet seen a successful raiding guild that ditches those things.

So I've been PvPing a lot. Heroics are cool too.

Blood Elves are horrible. Nobody should roll a Blood Elf. Nobody. Unless you're absolutely dead set on being a Horde Paladin, in which case... no, you still shouldn't roll a Blood Elf.

Draenei are pretty cool though, and have neat starting areas/quests.

I much prefer the blood elf 1-20 than the draenei, but it's an aesthetics thing mostly. I really am not big on the whole "lol spaceships and glowing crystal shit" thing, however hot female draenei may be. Silvermoon and the Dead Scar are way cooler, lore-wise too. Also as far as mages blood elf males have some of the BEST casting animations. I'm so jealous when I see ours in raids. Blood elf males also have the best /laugh.

And going back, I second (third? fifth?) the paladin/mage thing. I leveled my prot paladin to 60 solo but then did 60 to 70 with my friend's frost mage. It is crazy fun and easy. You never have to spec ret and you never have to buy water!

You can't really run a successful raid guild without that stuff. Like no matter how much you try to simplify the rules there's always some new thing to discuss how to handle fairly. Like I am so tired of talking about sunmotes and what best-in-slot means but when you're responsible for making everyone feel like they're not getting screwed you can't just say "whatever, we don't need rules" because then someone will be unhappy. Same with scheduling. Necessary evils.

If I ever quit raiding I sure as hell won't turn to full-time PVP, I'm just not interested in it. I'd just level alts and do five-mans and be one of THOSE people hanging around the raid guild as a social member. Except I wouldn't suck. >.> We do have a lot of former raiders who just log on to PVP though, it's very common.

One of the things that makes raiding tolerable for me these days (farming content or chewing glass) is having something else going on in the background. Having two monitors helps with this.

Between wipes or while the healers/tanks are sorting out their shit, I'm browsing Magic sets (been bitten by the cardboard crack bug again), or messing around in itunes, or watching the Daily Show / Colbert Report / South Park (online or on TV). Or hell, just posting on or browsing the forums. I've been reading through the 105 page M:TG thread in CF over the past few days.

Hell, last night I did the dishes between wipes and member disconnects on Brutallus. (being short enough on people to have to do Kalecgos with an alt mage decursing was ... interesting. Thankfully we got him in 2 attempts)

That said, I mean no disrespect to the fine folks of SE++, and yes, there've been some truly outstanding threads and posts therein, but then I stumble some of the anti-G&T sentiment or some of the more clearly in-crowd/in-joke circle jerking and I just can't be bothered to read back 35 pages of yet another monster thread for context.

I guess what I'm saying is it seems that it's not for me.
