This isn't really how it goes all the time. I know that this doesn't match my experience.
My parents divorced when I was less than a year old. They still have not stopped hating each other for imagined crimes.
The whole double presents at Christmas thing almost makes up for having to play messenger boy and serving as a proxy battleground for them, since they refuse to talk to each other outside of court.

There's different kinds of quitting. Just stop posting one day for no reason, and have rumors started. Quit because you got pissed off at everyone about something, which makes you look like a bitch that can't take a joke. Then there's asking to be banned because you need to get school/work done and don't have enough self control to stop posting yourself.
