Does anyone here know a good program for basic video editing? I need something that can cut and paste sections of video, have clips inserted, and have audio tracks overlayed.
I used to have a program a while ago that was good for this, but I can't remember what it was called.
Any reccomendations? Thanks.
Windows Movie Maker?
Last I checked, it comes with Windows and does exactly what you want.
I wouldn't touch it with a 40 foot pole because it isn't very intuitive, but you can give it a go.
I didn't think I had it, but I'll check again.
It's not the program I had, but if it gets the job done, it'll do.
Oh good lord, does it suck though. I'd actually rather pay a bit of money (say, $50 or less) for something than use that piece of monkey shit. It's bad.
Also, you might not have installed it (I'm not sure if it's installed by default with XP), but all you'd have to do is pop in your CD and add it and you're good to go.

Can you cut selections from clips? Say if you for example wanted a specific 30 seconds out of a 5 minute clip or something, and then put that clip in with the other clips you're putting together?

nice little piece of bloatware, there
Virtual Dub should be what you're looking for.
VirtualDub isn't an NLE. You can trim, but that's about it.
