I've been playing this. Got my Orc Dread Knight to level 10. I'm really not sure what to think of it yet.
I will say that it is too early for this to be open beta and it is way too early for it to be released this month. The game has problems, and they are still adding/changing major gameplay elements.
I think a significant part of WoW's early success was the longer-than-usual beta period. Obviously it still wasn't perfect at launch, but compared to launches of games like Star Wars Galaxies...
The fact that anyone involved with EQ is behind this is not convincing me to go try it. EQ was terrible, it wasn't even great at the time. What's different about this one?

EQ was great at the time. What exactly was there that was better?

I feel exactly the opposite way. I've been playing with AlwaysAngryGuy, and despite it being in a slightly rough stage as he said, I've enjoyed it greatly, and look forward to exploring it more. That being said, if you did not like EQ at all, then save your time because this is it's next evolution and you'll more then likely still not like it.

How is that an argument? Just 'cause there isn't an alternative doesn't naturally make something good.
And yes, UO was better, for the record.

UO?
Ah, no. And this coming from someone who's been playing the Ultimas since III came out on the IIc.

Loved it though, if just for the vast landbase. I loved being out in the middle of nowhere and feeling isolated from everything while hunting golems for Motes...

If you think about it, WoW has never had a major change to a basic mechanic, if you don't count all that honor stuff.
Edit: Oh, duh, the conversion of fixed percentage stats to scaling values. My bad.
Wikipedia has an article on MMORPGs. Here are some that look good and were before Everquest.
Meridian 59 looks interesting. It is still alive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meridian_59

This game is coming out toward the end of this month early next and its just not ready.

Also, the game runs like shit.
Still, I'd like to see how this goes.

anyway, any listing for Minimum specs for this?
Asheron's came out a bit after EQ...

There is also Neverwinter Nights.

Edit: EXCEPT for EXP Debt, that shit is NOT cool. If you die you lose exp, and if your level bar empties you then go into debt for it.
They were both ok, but very limited.
I enjoyed Shadow Of Yserbius quite a bit though.
But you don't lose a level? That's not bad. It's better than allowing people to Corpse run to things.
I'l download and give it a try. Hopefully the developers remembered to make the game fun and not a treadmill chore.
