My wife of nearly 4 years and I are preparing to separate our stuff and go our different ways. The strange thing here is that, right now at least, there's not really any anger. We're still friends and enjoy just hanging out together, but our lives are going in different directions and for a while now neither of us has been very happy. We've even been going to marriage counseling to see if we could get back to how in love we were when we first got together, but because our life goals aren't the same anymore it's extremely difficult for either of us to see staying in the relationship. There's really no blame assigned to just one of us, if any blame at all exists, and so over the next few months we've got to figure out how to move away from being a married couple to just friends. Our lease is up in December and she'll be leaving the area for a few months immediately after, so the full reality of this may not hit until then, but overall I feel like it'll be OK, and I'm a little anxious about trying to meet women again.

Pretty much everything you have said sounds like my last relationship break-up, only instead of being married we were just living together. Different life goals/directions is a big, big, big, big thing to have to consider in any long-term relationship. Good luck!
that's the kind of thing i'm afraid of in any relationship.
one long-term relationship i had i basically subsumed my own long-term goals and such to the gf. things ended when i "resurfaced" to do new things.

I've been dating and now living with my girlfriend for a total of 8 years.
Seriously though, I always was impressed with people that get divorced in such an adult manner. It's a rare thing these days. Especially when there is a kid involved. I know this because the women in my family change husbands like they change oil filters. Seems like every week I'v lost an uncle or a cousin or a brother in law.

I chalk it off to being too young, now.
It's lame because there was literally no sign of it until the last couple days, from my perspective, but like Mysst, we will probably get along and be happy and fine apart.
