I hate those weird partial masks from the '90s that only served to frame the face, as seen in characters like Cyclops and Gambit. Why would anyone wear something like that?

Gambit (yes, he designed the costume, even though he didn't pencil UNCANNY #266), the updated Cyclops, Omega Red, the Acolytes, bringing back the shoulder pads on Wolverine - Jim Lee designed some shitty-ass costumes in the early 90s.

I've always loved the classic Green Lantern suit that Hal Jordan and the Corps use.

Gil Kane designed some awesome costumes - GL, Atom, and some others that I can't remember at the moment.

I love American Dream's outfit in the MC2-verse. No belly-shirt, no skirt, no cleavage window. Just a sensible version of Cap's classic costume tailored for a lady, and with flat-heeled boots to boot! A great example for future female super-hero outfits.

My guilty pleasure in terms of costumes is Conner!Superboy's original costume. You know, with the leather jacket and thigh-belt and (occasionaly)John Lennon-style sunglasses. It's so horribly Nineties, yet I love it so.

Yeah, I agree - also, the first 20 issues or so of his solo title (by Grummet and Kesel) are awesome.

When the character isn't meant to be taken seriously, an outfit like that can make a book even better years later.

    Very much yes.

On the other end of the spectrum, I love half of the costumes in Thunderbolts right now. Songbird's is really awesome, and also not that revealing, which is a decent surprise. Swrdosman's is super-sweet, even though he's a nazi jackass, and Speedball's would be sweet if it didn't have so many fucking spikes.

goddammit you idiots, the x-button on his chest is a fucking communicator what more do you want

edit- the only (the ONLY) thing i can see having a problem with is the straps around his thighs. i can't even come up with a no-prize worthy explanation. but other than that, it's the very tits.

the straps around the thighs are to keep the yellow and blue balanced

to prevent one from dominating the other

much like his dream of mutant/human relations

in other news, it's not exactly a costume switch per se, but i always liked the way jrjr drew frank castle.
    pwz_1.jpg

it's not the best shot, but gis doesn't turn up much. like i said, it's not even just the outfit but the whole way jrjr draws him, just as a tough-ass sumbitch. he's hairy as shit (even his back is ass-hairy), which is rad because it makes him manly. i like hercules for a similar reason. i think it's good to have more "positive" different body types in comics, and hairiness in men is something the media tends to disapprove of. i'm just rambling now because i'm drunk and thinking about the punisher's hairy back, which is gay as hell man
