    Nintendo's upcoming Wii MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo’s commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.

    I, uh, I'm not sure what's happening. Is this going to be a mandatory add-on for games, or does it just refine pointer controls, or will it be included with new Wiis and Wiimotes from now on? QUESTIONS AND LOUD NOISES.

    Ok judging from the dimensions of the module I'd take a guess that they're piling a much more sensitive accelerometer into the addon module which works with the less sensitive one in the normal Wiimote.

    Take the two (or more) and you can use one to do corrections for the other.

    <totally made-up shit>
    It has a detailed accelerometer that can tell the system which direction the controller is moving so that the game can respond to the movement without having to first recalculate the position and then calculate the movement. Pushing a problem off to specialized hardware is a good way to improve performance.

    It's nothing to do with recalculating position - it's almost certainly an accelerometer that detects very fine forces but maxes out at around where the normal one gets accurate.

    The new controller is actually made out of flux capacitors.

    Nintendo come up with some weird stuff, but they managed to squeeze success from the DS and the the Wii so I'm guessing they'll do okay.

    They managed to make some nifty technology but lots of the success of the Ds and Wii is they are serviceable without using those new devices. there's enough good Wii games that more or less ignore the motion sensors and Ds ones that play pretty much like Gameboy games and dion't bother with the touchscreen
