Heck, might as well add me too. FrederickDyvers. I've been kicking around Job and JonXP's servers for TF2 for awhile now, figured it's time to spread out a little.
It didnt warrant its own thread and this is the only steam related one I could find that wasnt TF2.
I guess it can go anywhere. someone find the steam general thread. I may have been confused with the steam in the thread title. people always using that stupid meme of 'X on'
I don't like the sonar because it's hard to tell where they are, exactly. You can't just see them, you just get triangles. Plus if people take the cold suit, then they can't stealth, so thermal is a win-win implant.
Also, I never could really get into using Thermal. I know it's useful, but I always have trouble with picking out enemies from friends when it's up. Much more a fan of the... what's it called? IFF? The one that shows enemies health bars, since I'm usually playing a Heavy, and it'll let me know exactly how many more rounds I need to pump into someone, or if someone's low, to prioritize killing them first, etc.

You just have to get used to the differences between Corps and Punks for the thermal vision. It's not too hard. Plus you can check your map to see if any of your dudes are up by where you see somebody.
I like the IFF too, but you only have so many head slots as a heavy, and being able to see cloaked lights is priceless.

The triangles appear right at the persons feet so it tells you exactly where they are and it works around walls and corners, through doors, below and above.
I'd take an invite to the steam group, Fodder is my steam friends name I believe. I played this a ton with cango back in the beta and shortly after, then tf2 came out and kind of ruined it the few times I went back to it afterwards. It's still pretty awesome though now that there are people in servers again.

TAC Scan is also just a frozen scan image - you see where enemies are at the moment of the scan. SWT updates live.
Personally I prefer thermal. I have yet to see people use a cold suit to counter it, and I've learned to distinguish model shapes so I don't blast my own teammates, though I usually keep an eye on the map to check where my team is and just nuke away if someone suddenly shows up on thermal where I know there's no teammate.
The important thing about TAC scan is that all your teammates in the area (not sure how large the radius of an 'area' is) will see the enemies displayed also. It's a team thing.
I haven't played since the very first beta thread we had, so whether or not I can play with PAers I'll be dystopia-ing it up tonight. Steam ID = FLeck0. (that's a zero at the end )
I'm not looking forward to learning whatever new maps have been added, but I remember having fun and fun is what I'm after
edit: so I'm just getting ready to install. I need HL2: deathmatcdh and SDK base? at least that's what I've gleaned from a few google searches and what I have going atm
Anyone notice how some things (mattresses and the copy machines in Highrise) are totally impenetrable? A steel wall, yeah that makes sense, but bullets should obliterate copy machines.
I don't know about you, but I always buy a bullet proof printer. Its a lot more expensive, but I think the advantages are apparent.

EDIT: I'm sorry I missed the other event. I feel asleep
I made an event for us.
11:00pm EST Tomorrow Sat 19th-- I'm trying to accommodate the West coast players; if we have few of those and some friends from across the pond, though, I'll shift it earlier so they can join us.

I find the sonar better cause hardly anyone takes the no sound device.

It all makes sense now.
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.

True, but isn't that what a tac scan is for?
