Dark Heresy: Optimus Usurpo

It is the year 815.M41, and you have no idea what is going on.

They came for you, suddenly and without warning. Maybe they got you while you were sleeping, maybe they picked you up outside your favorite bar… maybe they simply asked you to come down to the station. However they went about it, the local arbites came and took you into custody – for what, they would not say. They relieved you of your weapons and put you in a holding cell on a small transport craft. If you were particularly resistant, you might have even been knocked unconscious, coming to behind bars with shackles on.

Days follow. You were kept fed and they treated you reasonably well. But no one ever told you why you were detained, or where you were being taken. Finally, you are told that your destination has been reached, and the arbites lead out of the transport, onto the small, well-maintained landing pad. There you are handed over to guards sharply-dressed in uniforms of green and gold, who, you realize, are definitely not arbites. They blindfold you and after a journey down a lift and many minutes of being led roughly by your escorts, your blindfold is removed, and they leave, locking the door to the room behind you.

The room is approximately six metres square, and furnished only with four plain chairs. There are three other people in the room.

The individuals present are:

Viswanat:
Stands at 1.75m and a wiry 65kg. He has a dark olive complexion, with black hair and grey eyes (similar in appearance to someone from Old Terra India). Clad in the traditional robes of the Administratum, he carries many of the tools of the trade, most notably a well-used auto-quill. His apperance might be considered pleasing to the eye, if it weren't for the metallic plates dominating much of the left side of his face and neck. Scar tissue encircles the plate, the result from both the original burns and the medical procedure performed to attach the underlying bionics.

Parthus of Termeus:
Parthus stands at 1.75 meters tall and weighs 65 kilos, a lanky fellow sporting a terse beard and thick curling black hair. His body is formed of tightly woven muscle and a multitude of scars that mark him as a survivor of his home planet, as well as a detailed account of his victories over deadly prey and accomplishments as a mercenary. Aside from the pink and red scars that have covered up most of his natural features, his skin is an almost albino white; a token from the darkness provided by the omnipresent tent-trees of his homeworld.

Paba Clavu
Average height and build. A middle-aged, bronze-skinned man with black hair and green eyes that contrast greatly with the purple war paint that decorates his skin. He has several gold earrings and rings on, and a necklace of various animal teeth - including human. (Detailed description to be posted later.)

Boaz Mirosal Calvarius-Kornel:
Stands 1.75m tall, weighs 105kg. A sneering, oily, heavy clergyman dressed in high-collared black and white robes, touting numerous gold ornaments, icons, books, and bone charms. His short black hair is slicked back and various tubes & wires run though his neck. A pair of clockwork eyepieces sit low on his large hooked nose.

"Now... what d'you think is gwin' on here? Whos alla you?", Paba speaks as he regards each of the other three with a glance.

He moves to the door and gives it a sharp rap, and calls out to the guards, "Dis isn't right natural, see? Ah shouldn' be in here!"

(EDIT: not first, I guess. I'll just act that way anyhow.)

Boaz sat patiently on one of the chairs, turning his head with a raised eyebrow at the next arrival to be brought in.

"Another guest, it seems. Don't ask me for an explanation, I was brought here in just the same fashion."

((It should be noted that while he is not shackled any more, Paba has a metal band with hexagrammic wards attached to his left wrist that is suppressing his pskyer abilities. It was put into place by the arbites when you were taken into custody.))

Parthus finds his way over to a chair and gives it a quick look-over for anything out of the ordinary and takes a seat. Noticing the warded bracelet on the irate man, he decides it would be for the better to stand.

"I am Parthus... A captive no different than yourself, I think."

"I think it best we all sat down and simply wait to be recollected by our warders," Boaz added. "I know not why you were brought here, but I trust I was requested by the Judges with sound intent. I myself would have been shackled had they reason to think me guilty in the Emperor's eyes."

He pauses for a moment. "My given name is Boaz, of house Calvarius. I am a clergyman of the Imperial Creed."

Paba turns around, looks at his wrist while shaking the bracelet, and returns to his seat dejected.

"Ah'm Paba Clavu, of da Clavu tribe on Endrite... shaman to my people, psykah for da Emp'rah", he adds as he pulls at the band.

The wiry scribe quickly looks over his equipment, offering a prayer of apology to the Machine God. Satisfied that everything is functioning properly, he whispers thanks.

Turning to his newfound companions, he gives a hasty bow. "I am Scrivener Viswanat of the Administratum." He pauses, examining the room around him, continuing absent-mindedly, "House Calvarius, you say? I do not believe I recognize the name...

"I find it odd for them to bring us to a room with only four chairs. This must mean either that this is another holding cell, or that one of us has summoned the rest here for some reason." Viswanat then focuses his gaze on the others in the room. "Since none of you seem to know our purpose here, the former seems to apply; therefore I am in agreement with Father Boaz' suggestion."

    Viswanat:
The lock mechanism on the bracelet is not visible, and you cannot determine any way to remove it from him short of cutting it (or his hand) off.

    Boaz:
If you look closely, you recognize some of runes on the bracelet as holy symbols that protect against witchery.

There is a short rapping on the door, and a muffled voice tells you to stand back while they open it. The door slides open, revealing several guards. The one who opened the door looks at all of you and says, "You have been summoned, please follow me."

It does not appear that they are going to shackle or blindfold you this time.

((I will assume all of you fall in line and follow the guards.))

The hallway you are currently in is rather plain, though obviously well maintained. There are a number of colored lines painted on the floor. Your group is lead through several turns in these plain corridors until you come to a pair of doors that have an ornate design in them. The lead guard punches in a code that opens the doors, and you find yourselves in a much larger hallway now, with ceilings that go up at least ten meters, and furnished with patterned carpeting and many paintings and tapestries lining the walls.

After several more minutes of walking, your group is lead into an enormous room with many rows of tables and chairs, all facing towards a large ornate desk, at which a tall, thin man sits. He is dressed in green and gold finery, all of it tailor-fitted and looking to be made from the best materials available. Behind him are enormous windows, automatically tinted so that the midday sun lights the room well without glaring in the eyes of those looking out.

The man looks up from the data slate that he was reading and stands up, pressing a button on his desk that causes the large doors to the room to slid shut. “Ah good, you are all here,” he says, smiling. He motions to you all to approach until you are a few feet from him. “I am Helvantos Weriam Tir Timon, head of the Noble House Timon here on Archaos.”

Helvantos chuckles. "It would not be wise to kill the man who wishes to pay you handsomely."

He motions at one of the guards standing nearby, who removes a small dataslate and passes it over Paba's wrist, which loosens it, and then removes it from his wrist.

"I suppose you all are wondering why I have gathered you hear under such auspicious circumstances. I would have preferred you to all come unaccompanied, but I could not tolerate any refusal of invitation. You have, each of you, been selected for a task that is of importance to me."

Helvantos removes two dataslates, one compact and blue-hued, the other a plain slate grey, from a drawer in his desk and hands them to a guard, who hands them to Viswanat.

"You four are to go to the Primoris Libri Arcanum and present the blue dataslate to the chief archivist there. The grey dataslate has some basic information for you about Archaos and, more importantly, a phrase for you to recite to whoever receives you at the Libri."

The location of the Libri Arcanum is only nebulously known, I confess. A section of the mid-hive collapsed a century and a half ago, and the Libri was in one of the sections that fell. It is still intact, of that I am certain, but locating it may not be an easy task, and I cannot have my men rummaging through the slums without attracting... undue attention from others. Therefore, I am sending you four, discreetly, to accomplish this for me."

"When this task is completed, you will be granted permanent lodging in one of my properties in the mid-hive, and will be given payment of 300 thrones each, plus a monthly stipend to encourage you to stay in case I have other tasks for you. Oh, which reminds me," Helvantos removes a small pouch from a pocket and gives it to a guard, who hands it to Boaz. "Here are 200 thrones for any expenses that may arise."
