Child's Play Forum?

SquashuaSquashua __BANNED USERS regular
Or at least a sticky? I realize it's removed from PA, but hey.

I'm curious abotu certain things, like I think it seems that 20 per item was just kind of an arbitrary random number, but I guess it helps to have 20 on hand in case one gets lost/broken.

I also would like to know abotu TV supplies. 20 Gamecubes plus 20 PS2s plus 20 XBoxes isn't going to help unless you have at least 20-60 available Televisions/Monitors.

If you were running a charitable organization, would you want it associated with these forums? I sure as hell wouldn't. ;)

In practically every hospital room, there is a tv. I don't think tv's will be a problem.

They are good to have. A lot of hospitals prefer to have "carts" with a game system and tv locked to the cart. Then the nurse can just wheel a cart in and out and not have to worry about hooking it up. Anyway, I talked to the guys and the consensus is we dont need a whole fourm for it, maybe just a thread. Until that thread is made, we can post in here

What the hell would we even discuss in a forum for that? I mean, I can't even imagine three possible threads.

Can someone explain that to me? I'm not trying to be a dick here, I'm genuinely curious. What would people discuss beyond "I just donated X!"?

I had a nubmer of questions, and I wouldn't have asked them in the same thread as they'd go their own ways. And mailing a question to "Gabe" or "Tycho" is like trying to find your own shit in a sewer.

I mean, the TV thing I wouldn't have asked here if there was a forum for it.

I'd like to suggest some other hospitals (I live in South Florida; I don't see the South East or New York represented, yo!).

I donated to the Washington hospital (and tossed a few bucks at that contest currently on the front page), but I didn't buy electronics for them (I did a number of books); I'm afraid they'd walk right out of the hospital and onto the back of someone's truck. What's security like at these places? I'm sure some kids might go home with a couple of things and I'm OK with that - it's to be expected (not that I'd encourage it or let my own kid go home with anything that was not his), but I also know that unscrupulous folk hang out in those sorts of places as well.

Yeah, but they don't ever read these boards, whereas they sometimes read their e-mail. And I suspect if you e-mailed the Child's Play e-mail address (there must be one on the Child's Play site, somewhere) that they're putting a certain priority on dealing with those e-mails.

Well, there could be one for what people donated, one for people who'd like to volunteer, one for people to talk about how much better it was last time, one for people to talk about how this should affect the gamer image, one for people to bitch about how it hasn't affected the gamer image, and two dozen or so for people to debate the nature of philanthropy or engage in nihilistic absurdism about the futility of being nice for one month out of the year.

    Bullshit. I call bullshit.

Remember that one time Tycho posted in the boards? You know, "Behold"?

Go find that thread. And look at the user who started that thread.

    I'll wait.

    ...

    Yeah, thought so.

Y'all frikkin' hijacked that thing once he posted; renamed it "The Thread in which Tycho posts" or some shit. Good gravy.

    :P

In any event, I did get YOUR attention, and you're obviously a moderator with some modicum of power and influence, which is essentially where I was aiming. I'm not clogging up the Child's Play "helpline" with my crap-ass emails.

Seriously. They barely read the boards. They seem to have started paying a little bit more attention recently when some Bungie rep whined to them.

    I lol'd.

But seriously. Gabe and (ESPECIALLY) Tycho never come to the forums to post. Send an e-mail to them. It has a much better chance of reaching them.

Hospitals have all of their equipment locked down. Software (games, videos, etc) are left out in the open and more likely to get stolen.

I am going to write a letter to G&T and ask them to add Mayo Clinic in Rochester to their list if they haven't already.

Mayo Clinic is among the best hospitals in the world, but it is slightly outside of Minneapolis.

This place holds a special spot in my heart.

It'd make sense to have a thread from a promotional point of view, I'd bet there are some people who jump straight to the forums who are blithely unaware of the cause.

*Oh, but don't do it with this thread, 'cause I said shit in it and that just lowers the tone of the whole affair.

We talked about a Child's Play forum last year and decided it was not worth it.

What's going to be posted in there?

A.) CHILDS PLAY RULES OMG! threads

B.) Trolling "GABE AND TYCHO SUX CHILDS PLAY IS A JOKE" threads and ensuing flamewars

And I can't think of anything else.

    Not worth it.
