Random number generators on signup?

It seems we've been having a bit of a problem with a program signing up on the boards and spamming us. I was wondering how hard it would be to have one of those numbergenerators you have to key in at the signup process. If this is a horrible idea then I'm sorry.

    That and the whole thing that it really never happens. That may be the first time in a looooooong time.

    We should ban hotmail/yahoo e-mails though. That would cut down on alts/clones.

    And the number generator thing isn't a horrible idea. An unnecessary overreaction to a problem which might not exist maybe, but not a horrible idea.

    You'd also have to cut down on netscape, gmail, and dodgeit.com emails.

    Wait, we should really block dodgeit.com emails. No I mean, Alpha, do that in your next update.

    I don't think this will fly. It's unnecessary. A number generator will slow people from joining up in a "raid" or whatever. But that rarely happens, and if ever it happens, registration will just get temporarily shut off.

    I signed up with a hotmail account too, by the way. :wink:

    Unless something terrible happens, I don't forsee me implementing a number gen system. Users get pruned regularly, so if you dont post in over 6 months and you dont have a postcount of x you will lose your nick here. That coupled with the simple "disable registration" button, seems to do the trick :wink:
