This will be one of the activities for BYOC attendees, decided to make it live a bit early (since I have it done, and to give you guys time to plan teams). The other activites will follow shortly whenever dave posts them (soon).
Also this isnt to be confused with the scavenger hunt that was recently posted in the PAX forum. This one is different and for only BYOC attendees.
Ive been planing this for many months now
PAX 2008 BYOC Scavenger hunt Twitter contest.
THIS ISNT YOUR TYPICAL SCAVENGER HUNT!
Your scavenger hunt missions will be unknown until they are assigned via PAX_BYOC on twitter!
Don’t worry if you don’t want a twitter account. On our intranet page there is a twitter feed for PAX_BYOC. It is highly suggested that you sign up for twitter and follow PAX_BYOC. At PAX you might want to set it for device updates so you get the latest missions right to your phone* for the best chance at winning. Otherwise you will just have to check the intranet page in BYOC often for the latest updates.
*(as long as you don’t mind a bunch of text messages during PAX. We aren’t responsible for costs if you don’t have an unlimited plan or if you go over)
Details/rules/prizes/misc info in spoiler tag
Details:
This is a team based contest, Teams will consist of 3 people. No more, no less. Team Signups will take place Friday just after we get everyone checked into BYOC.
This contest will take place throughout all of PAX
The majority of missions will try to avoid major PAX events that a lot of people are attending, but I’m only shooting for 70% avoidance of those, there may be a mission anytime during PAX hours, and possibly an overnight mission or two.
Your Team will have to retrieve something from the target and your whole team return it to BigRed / the BYOC security desk for mission credit
And/Or
Take a picture (digital camera/cell phone) of the target with all team members in the picture and return to BigRed / the BYOC security desk for mission credit
Details about which you will have to do will be in the twitter mission.
Missions will have a “To be completed by” time attached to them, the objective must be returned to BigRed / BYOC security desk by that time for mission credit. Most missions will be 30-60min in length.
This contest is only for PAX BYOC attendees. All team members must be PAX BYOC attendees.
Scoring:
Teams will be scored on the number of missions completed.
For every mission that is returned, it will have a “time score” attached to it.
(First team back gets 1, second team back gets 2, etc.)
# of missions completed and the time score will be added up on the final sheet.
Winner will be the most missions completed.
In the event of a tie, the winning team will go off their time score, lowest wins.
PRIZES:
There *WILL* be prizes for this. The first and second place teams already have prizes for them. I may have more by the time PAX rolls around but its staying unannounced for the time being. At PAX itself I will announce what the prizes will be.
There also may be little prizes attached to some of the missions.
make another contest, specifically tailored towards my needs, so that i may get myself into byoc. ^-^
Trackmania last year was one of my favorites and now with the new Trackmania Nations Forever I think it deserves to make a repeat appearance.
HOLY $H17 SOMEONE ELSE FROM VICTORIA
There is 3 of us going together (although admittedly I'm only travelling back this year, flying from hawaii for pax) from victoria. We also met somebody (SMES) on the Anacortes ferry (the best way to drive over IMO) from vic (well Mill Bay) last year.
I know some others are going, but liekly not in BYOC.
Im doing BYOC, I'm also from victoria, (colwood specifically)
Sugguestions/requirements for the byoc twitter contest:
at least ONE person in your guys' teams of 3 *MUST* have a camera of some kind (be it digital cam or cellphone cam). It must be of decent enough quality to take a picture in a semi dark enviroment (aka, expo hall). If there isnt... then you cant really complete the majority of missions :P
Its highly sugguested that at least one person in the team has a cellphone tied to the PAX_BYOC twitter account to deliver device updates. The optimal would be all 3 would have 3, but if just one does, then they can organize the other 2 people to meet them at the mission point.
If not then someone should be checking twitter on their phones data plan or be camped out at byoc most the time :P
I too need a team, and while not a person living in canada, I would like to note that my fathers mothers great grandmother was a french princecess who ran off to Canada with a stableboy. So i'm probably like 1/128 canadian.

Canadians: check your cel phone plan. My vacation to Seattle earlier this year cost me some serious cash for Twitter in the form of "every text you recieve while out of the country costs twenty five cents"

Hell, everyone should check theirs. I know I get dinged $0.15 for both incoming and outgoing texts, but I don't usually use 30+ texts in a month to warrant getting a text plan.
Oh yeah, I also need a team, but no dirty Canuckians please.

Yah, I just called Fido and they said it would be 20c per "web-based message" received to my phone. I'm thinking about getting a pre-paid SIM and throwing it in while I'm down there.
Sorry, guys, I was really hoping to have extended byoc information including the byoc contests scheduled and taken care of by the end of this week, but it's just not going to happen for assorted reasons.
It should happen early next week. But I'll go ahead and give a sneak peak:
We're currently planning on Trackmania, Flatout, AudioSurf, Peggle, and we're going to try and get as many people in Battlefield 2 as humanly possible.
There's (of course) a bunch of other contests we've got planned as well, but I like to tease.
And man. If only you could see the pile of prizes we're accumulating just for BYOC attendees. Man, oh, man.
Did I mention I like to tease?

Dave, there should be a prize for the largest BYOC group.
Level 47 Canadian BYOC scavenger hunter LFG
Specifically looking for an American with a cheap txting plan to recieve twitter updates (I can provide a 3rd group member if necessary... he doesn't know yet muwahaha)
We'll -probably- leave it without the expansion simply because, as I said, we want as many people in it as possible, and the number of people who have BF2 is going to be greater than the number of people that have BF2 + expansions.
However, keep in mind, this isn't a discussion I've yet had with the crew and is thusly subject to change.

I think I asked this before. Is that loud guy from Intel going to be at BYOC again this year? I cannot remember his name. Some one found him in a stairwell.

Mike Baum (aka, Shocker).
Yes he will be there again, Why?
No particular reason. Just curious.
There will be a separate BYOC like last year correct?
