So I was eating some steak a little fast and now I have a peice stuck in my throat. I can still breathe but I can't swallow air or anything without spitting up. Any ideas?

Oh god. When I was younger, me and my friends wanted to burn the Harry Potter books.

Then I moved to Georgia.

Does anyone near you know the Heimlich maneuver?
If so, it might be helpful.

9-1-1 unless someone there can help you with the Heimlich Maneuver.

    Can you verbalize?

Yes, I can verbalize and yes people around me can perfom the hemileck. I can breathe normally. I just spit up a lot of water and can't swallow

You need to go to the emergency room for a check up if someone performs the hemileck on you anyway because it crushes some of your internal organs up towards your ribcage.
Kill two birds with one stone and get the paramedics there.

This sounds like the sensible option.

No one has performed the hemlieck yet. I can still breathe and I don't want to spend a day in the emergency room. I've decided that if the problem persists for another hour or if I can't breathe/speak I will go to the hospital. Until then, any other advice?

You really should call the paramedics.

You can perform the heimlich maneuver on yourself. Stand up behind a high-back chair (one without wheels) and fall upon it fairly sharply, aiming for your diaphragm.

Can someone explain to me how my life is in danger? I can still breathe, I can still vocalize, this seems to be no more than an annoyance. I've had similar problems before and I've either 1) spit it out or 2) wait for it to slowly dissolve/swallow. Problem is, the meat doesn't seem to be doing that.

    EDIT: http://www.googobits.com/articles/7-how-to-perform-the-heimlich-maneuver.html
Ask the victim, "Are you choking?" just to be sure you do not attempt the Heimlich maneuver on someone who is not breathing for a reason other than a blocked airway.

    My airway isn't blocked.

honestly, ´what's the point of making threads asking for help if you aren't going to follow its advice. go call the paramedics.

Food can move around in your throat. If it gets dislodged and lands at an odd angle, you will start choking and things will get very bad very fast. Get to a hospital or call 911.

Cough lots. Drink lots of water. If the steak is still there in about 5 minutes, paramedics.

Because I want more than one piece of advice. I don't consider calling the paramedics when it's not an emergency "good advice." I'm coughing up little pieces of the steak up now, but I just want advice for it to go down quicker.

Happened to my dad. Try to swallow some water. If you can't, if it just sits there, go to the ER and get that fucker out.

For future reference, the optimal sequence is this:
    1. Put food in mouth
    2. Chew thoroughly
    3. Swallow

Ok, drank some water/coke and tried the "bulemic technique" and got some of the steak out. I can swallow said coke so I think I'll be fine. Thanks for the advice.
